Absolutely climbed into him after that Chelsea opener during a break of play. Millie threw his drink bottle away in disgust.

Water under the bridge now it seems. I'm sure Milner knows he's on a winner with Jurgen at the helm. Per the above  comment from DanA. He really suits the diamond formation.

I just read this article after I posted here https://www.redbulletin.com/uk/en/sports/jurgen-klopp-turning-players-into-winners

Too right he's onto a winner :scarf

dortmund fans should be seething at aubamayang for allowing milner to stroll on to that flick from sturridge after taking the free kick

it gets funnier each time you see it.

Theres a reason why pretty much every manager he's played under, club or international, has rated him. He must be doing something right.

Yep, he has a lot of quality in certain areas and you can rely on him for workrate. The main caveat is relying on him in CM, he controls the ball like Kuyt sometimes.

And if he ever takes a corner again  :no

Can't fault him for his tireless work rate, attitude and relentlessness. But no way would I want to see him in a Liverpool central midfield next season, game was just too quick for him in large periods and he couldn't cope, his touch let him down often aswell. Cheers for the assists though James.

Really don't get the Milner hate. He's great for us, covers the whole pitch and always 110%.

Wonder if those moaning only see him on the telly?

He's pretty good as a captain too.

I'd take his shit first touch, work rate, quality crosses and overall contribution to our goals over Lallana and his stepovers, airswings and Cruyff turns when no one is within 15 metres of him.

Running so hard Auba gave up on covering him. Love it.
i noticed that

milner does some serious running, wasnt at his best at times but kept running, kept trying, never gave up and two assists

the last of which was just asking for someone to score wasnt it

fair play to him

When he was at City he often came on from the bench and was very effective. One season he had like 1500 played minutes but still matched the top players in terms of assists and goals. Always wondered if he could be that effective as a regular. He's really got everything in his locker.

I'd take Can, Hendo and a new quality CM we're looking for aswell over both of them in the centre. He was a man for the moment last night, hats off to him he can do a proper job when we want but not week in, week out there.

Ah it's back to Lallana again. He's the new guy to moan about now that Lovren has clawed his way up.

Or is that Henderson?

Thing is 7 goals and 12 assists suggests he is a man of many moments. They are good stats from midfield.

The same managers agree about the not a midfielder bit.

My point is simply to say we shouldn't be so cavalier about laughing off a player who is in the company of Silva, Eriksen and Alli this season. Replacing Milners contribution would costs millions. I'm not sure why we would do it

His corner taking last night was abysmal, but that aside, what an athlete.
He just doesn't stop running, ever. A consistent performer who covers every blade of grass and is technically very sound.
The thing that impressed me the most with James Milner last night was that he didn't stop talking to the lads on the pitch, even at 2-0 down he was encouraging them. This is a lad that has played at the highest standard for a long time, his experience and drive is invaluable.
He's a huge asset to this club and suits Jurgen's style down to the ground

He needs to be taken off of corners, but his crossing from open play is brilliant with both feet, even when he has a 'poor' game he still seems to pop up with an assist or 2! Played well in the 2nd half last night too!

I don't know if it's just him. Going back to gary mac when we last had someone who could take a corner. Seems to be a curse on the ground for players taking them that they can't beat the first man

Theres a reason why pretty much every manager he's played under, club or international, has rated him. He must be doing something right.

He does stuff. It doesn't always look pretty, and he doesn't always get it right every time. But he never stops; not just pure physical effort, but trying to create, to make chances, to drive the team on.

He could have got someone else to take corners after a couple of them brought discontent from the crowd. He could have angled for a move away when Rodgers was sacked and Klopp played him everywhere except the position he'd come to the club to settle in. He could have complained to the press, taken his salary and switched off after being berated constantly by Klopp on the touchline in that game.

But minute to minute, game to game, he just gets on with it. Never particularly appreciated, never a glamourous player, but just effective*, productive, bloody minded non-stop effort.

*Except in a central midfield two. The position he apparently really wants to play in.

12 I think. I  do rate Milner, and a great professional. Personally wouldn't let him take the corners though!
