Trains from Genk to Amsterdam on the Thursday have shot right up today. All were €29 via Brussels yesterday. Looked today and it’s €53.

Need to get to Amsterdam for a 17.40 flight. Anyone got any tips? Any group or regional tickets like in Germany.

Just checked flixbus site (belgium’s version of national express) and few coaches that day from hasselt to amsterdam, price is around 15euro so cant go wrong with that. Here’s a link,

Cheers. Saw that but 6 hours on a coach a bit grim. I’d rather just pay the extra for the train.

Best way to get to Amsterdam is to go via Maastricht.

Dutch trains are more reliable and newer/more comfortable.

Looked at that but took longer. We’ve just paid the dough to go via Brussels. Cheers anyway.

Some taxis also do special rates to all the major airports so might be worth checking that out if there are a few of you.

What time is anyone aiming to get to Genk for the shuttles TO the game.

Been talking so much about getting back, I've not thought about to the ground, which reading the LFC advice says take a shuttle.

Looks like it's about 15 minutes, but then Naples, Rome and Belgrade teach you timings mean nothing!

Says from 5pm. Reckon they go only when full, or multiple returns with it not being too far?

If you've already booked your trip mate just go and see what happens out there . If you don't get a ticket it'll be a good holiday . Up to you mate.

Thanks mate. I had no luck with the tickets for the game so far neither. But the trip is booked long time ago, and I won't complain about a "good holiday" in Belgium. :) Plus, it seems I might help out a few people here.

If someone needs a ride from Brussels to Genk on the day of the game - we've got a spare 1 seat in our rental car. Leaving Brussels Charleroi at ~11:30 AM and stopping by Brussels Central station at ~12pm.

+ on the return trip from Genk to Brussels, I've still got an odd 3 seats available in the car.
I'll be leaving Genk at ~6:00 - 6:15 AM on Thursday (maybe that's why those seats are still available...)

If someone needs to be dropped off at Brussels Central/Midi train station in the morning - there is a north route we could take: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Genk,+Belgium/Brussels+Central+Station,+Brussels,+Belgium/Brussels+South+Charleroi+Airport,+Rue+des+Fr%C3%A8res+Wright+8,+6041+Charleroi,+Belgium/@50.7322974,4.6047343,10z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m20!4m19!1m5!1m1!1s0x47c0ded3c3a19e73:0x9c68915e1903c150!2m2!1d5.5021!2d50.96613!1m5!1m1!1s0x47c3c47fcc1d13b5:0x40b1a1704a249cfa!2m2!1d4.3570964!2d50.845504!1m5!1m1!1s0x47c228d0db96d9e5:0xc4a2ed66e37660d2!2m2!1d4.4588213!2d50.4625374!3e0

Right-hand traffic is natural for me + I've driven on Belgian roads before. :wave

But you are flying to Charleroi and then driving to Brussels instead of going on the E42 towards Liege and then onto Genk.

Was thinking about Arnhem too but could do the both in one day. Me Dad being 3 Para I grew up on all things associated with the Regiment so I feel I have to go.

We are Dover-Dunkirk ferry then driving, stopping throughout Flanders to take in some World War 1 Sites.
So decided to detour a bit and take in Arnhem and Oosterbeek on the way back and the Battle of Arnhem Sites.
A great away for anyone that’s driving and in to World War history too....

Is right. I think the road up from Nijmegen to Arnhem was part of the fuck up in Market Garden . One road led to divisions getting picked off by the Luftwaffe. The Paras both British and Polish held out for longer than expected waiting for reinforcements to come. A large number of them escaped across the river if I remember correctly. Not sure if its true but in the film when a German boss came across the bridge to speak about a surrender the Para boss said... sorry theres far too many of you for us to look after so we cant accept your surrender. If thats true its shows you the spirit of the Paras.

Off topic there but fuck it.

At Manc airport . Yippee.

Its a bit of a nightmare parking close to the ground but if you aim for André Dumontlaan in Watershei you can just park anywhere on the road or on the central reservation. Its 5-10 minute walk from anywhere around there, obviously try and get there early mate.

Problem I have is that because I live in Tongeren most of my Belgian friends are Standard supporters. There are a few Genk fans in work but they are all either going to the game or didn't want to spend the extra money for the Champions League packet. My son has also not had any joy.
