Still missing the British man lost in Malia.

Investigations are still being carried out for the British Steven Cook, who is still missing since last Wednesday in Malia.

"Patris" (the newspaper) came in contact whit his brother, Chris, who says that "my brother couldn't wait to go on vacations" and he maintains that Steve loved life. He (Chris) came in Greece to help in the investigations and he is not going to leave until there will be found an important evidence on what happened.

Stll fruitless remain the efforts of the Police, Coast Guard, relatives and friends of 20yrs old Steve Cook who has not given any signs of living since last Wednsesday which is the last time he was seen from friends in the coastal road of Malia.

The young brit was seen for last time, regarding his brother Chris, at the bar "Galaxy" in Malia, asking how he could he return to "Frixos Hotel" where he and his 10 friends were staying. The Hersonissos Police Department have informed the other other departments in of the prefecture for the mysterious disappearance of the young man, whilst there is not any essential outcome from the up to date investigations' procedure.

As "Patris" wrote yesterday (NB 5/9), his two brothers that flew from England when they were informed for their brother's missing, are looking for him in the greater area of Malia showing his picture/photo and trying to collect information that could help in finding him.

The last man saw him (Steve) is his fellow student, Paul Y******, whos told us, that all of them had drank a bit.  "He knew what he was doing. We were all drunk, but he was normal. Suddenly he disappeared, without telling me anything. Another friend of ours, Andy, saw him about 1am. He (Steve) told him that he'd be going to eat something. We've been told that he was talking to 2 girls, which I do not know where they are staying".

On Wednsesday morning Steve would be flying back with his friends to Chester.

"He was couldn't wait to go on vacations and he wanted so much to go to Crete. He was studying and working in parallel so he could go to Malia. As they were a lot of people they were separated in groups. They were all drunk, but not at a point that he couldn't find his way back to the hotel" Chris, brother of Steve, told us.

He (Chris) lives in a nightmare the last days, because he loves so much his younger brother. "My parents call every day and they are so anxious. He (Steve) is the youngest member in the family hence all of us loved and protected him. I spoke with him on Wednesday morning and he told me that he was tired from the flight. He was all the time talking about that trip and his vacations that he was waiting for a long time".

His relativs and friends visited the "Venizelion Hospital" and local Health Centres, but noone knew anything for missing Steve.

"We'll stay in the area as long as it is necessary. His friends are flying this morning(NB. 6 or 7 of Sep)back to England. We've called the British Consulate and Embassy and we have informed them for what has happened", Chris added.

Chris himself asks anyone that know or might help the investigations to call in the hotel or his personal phone, which is +4477********.

"We ask for the help of Greek Police"

According to him (Chris) the police officers of the Hersonissos PD althogh they have made great efforts they do not have a positive outcome yet. "My brother is a very quiet person, not unforeseen at all and he wouldn't leave without informing someone. We have the help of our Embassy and British police officers may turn up to help in the investigations.

These articles were written on the 6th of Sep the latest.

That doesn't sound very positive. Any more details on this?

it was a bit of a misunderstanding, and the people are now flying out at 9pm from Manchester

Kahnee on ynwa reports that Chris (Steve's brother) is coming back home on Wednesday to rest and his father and other brother Tony will be going out to Crete to continue the search.

Also, this is taken from ynwa:

We are asking for volunteers to hand out leaflets to fans before Sunday's game against Manchester United. The leaflets will be asking for any information regarding the disappearance of Stevieboy2k.

If you can be available from 9:00 Sunday morning to do this could you please leave your name (and username)* and a contact number and send it to kev.ynwa@blueyonder.co.uk and I will compile the list.

We are waiting final confirmation off Merseyside Police (although this is expected to be given on Wednesday)and there maybe a limit on the amount of people that can help, so it's important to get your name down asap.

Thanks

Kev

Update from Chris posted on YNWA.

Just to update. I have compiled this after clarifying events from Steve's mate's statements: It has been forwarded onto the consulate to translate and distribute accordingly. It has also been posted on a few more forums.

The events:

Just before 8.30pm Steve and his friends set off from the Frixos hotel on an organised bar crawl.

At 20.30 they arrived at the Banana Bar
At 21.00pm they moved onto Babylon
At 21.40 they moved onto Exodus
At 22.20 they moved onto Midway
At 23.00 they went to Liquid
At 23.40 they went to Camelot

They were then scheduled to go onto Factory at 00.20 and at 1.00 go to Club UK where they would remain for the rest of the night.

Roughly around midnight Steve and his friend, Andy, whom were sharing a room, decided to head back to their hotel for a sleep.

They were also considering getting some food.

On the way back up the street they were approached by a PR who told them they could get a pint in his bar for just one euro. This was in the proximity of the Royal Oak (the lads had eaten at the Oak earlier in the day) but on the opposite side of the street.

Deciding to have one last pint Steve and Andy went in.

The bar was extremely busy and this is where the two lost contact with each other.

Not being able to locate Steve, Andy went back to either the Camelot or Factory to meet up with the group they had left earlier. This was at around 00.40.

Between 00.30 and 1.00 Steve was seen outside of Mike's Pub at the top of the street asking a PR girl called Rebecca for directions to the Frixos. Not being able to help him, Rebecca saw Steve then head left (in the opposite direction of the Frixos) on the main street towards Sisi.

He has not been seen since, would only have had around 30-40 euros left and only had one bank card on his person at the time. No cash has been taken out of his account since his disappearance. He had also left his mobile phone in his room.

Physical description:

Age: 20
Height: 5' 9" - 5' 10"
Eyes: Green / Brown
Build: Medium
Hair: Dark brown. Short at the back and sides and spiked up with wax on top.

Distinguishing features: Steve had a scar at the outer corner of his right eye. He also had a scar between 1/2 - 1" long on the back of his head. Steve also bit his nails.

Clothing:

T-shirt
Steve was wearing a faded pink / salmon t-shirt with the wording CROSSHATCH written across the chest. The T-shirt also had white trimmings on the arms and on the round neck collar. The T-shirt also had a dragon motif on the front.

Trousers:
Black combat trousers

Shoes:
White Adidas 'Stan Smith'.

Personality:

Steve was a nice lad who if involved in a confrontational situation would be apologetic and back down. He has never been known to disappear like this before and always keeps in touch with his family when he is away from home - either through the Internet or by mobile.

He had no girlfriend and no trouble in his life. He had been making plans with his brother prior to going away to buy tickets for the Liverpool / Chelsea champions league game.

He was an avid Liverpool fan and if he met any other football fans out there would no doubt have mentioned Liverpool FC, the champions league win and his trip to Istanbul.

Steve studies Business and Marketing at Liverpool university where he is due to enter his 3rd and final year.

THere is still no news but a lot of people are responding or posting elsewhere trying to glean some more information and help as much as they can.

Well, I don't know what it is, but there's definitely something going on upstairs

An update from Chris:

Still no news on Ste but the Crete police have had boats searching the coast, a sniffer dog, and most recently helicopters searching the area.

Tonight (Friday 16th) Steve's brother Tony and cousin Mike flew out from Manchester to Crete to continue the search for Steve.

After the initial fact finding, touring bars and liasing with the police and consulate that myself, Tony, Phil Edwards (Steve's brother in law), my best friend Andy Fox and Steve's mate Ben Read have done the intention now is both to spread the word even further afield in Crete and to check all hospitals.

If we cannot gain access to hospitals the intention is to put new 'missing' posters up around hospital reception areas and where people working there will be parking their cars.

Each day Tony and Mike will be faxing a list of hospitals back home detailing what they have covered alongside reports of what they have done, whether they have been able to, in conference with the consulate, access wards etc. We will then be keeping a record of which searches have been done with which hospitals.

We have also been contacted by a local Sandbach man who works for a travel and airways agency with a view to distributing information about Steve to all outgoing flights to Crete but more importantly help overcome the difficulties that the family have had in booking flights at short notice.

Along similar lines an acquantance of Steve's friends, an air hostess from Sandbach, has offered to put flyers on all flights out to Crete.

Another voluonteer has come forward from www.findstevecook.co.uk to say that she is flying out to Crete on the 20th and that she speaks Greek and would love to help. We will be looking to get her in contact with Tony and Mike so that she can assist in their enquiries.

Back home, well over £3000 has been raised to help Steve's friends and relatives continue the search, over £2500 has been raised by www.ynwa.tv whilst other generous donations have come from the Cook family neighbourhood and his my place of work.

On Sunday, the owners of ynwa.tv and friends of me and Steve from the site have organised a mass distribution of leaflets - over 20,000 - to people attending the Liverpool Vs Manchster United match at Anfield. This match would have been Steve's first home match after he went on holiday. We have over 20 university friends, friends from going to the match as well as Liverpool fans from around the country helping out.

We have one possible lead of a third poster being put up in the hosonissos area of a young man with a badly bruised face. This originally came from a person from the Netherlands and we have since had several other confirmed sightings of the poster. The description is a white male with half of his face bruised and swollen, he has blue and white tubes coming out of his mouth and he is wearing what seems to be a yellow jumpsuit - whether this is a hospital garment we do not know.

At the moment we are trying to determine whether this could be Steve or a poster of the young Irish lad that Tony and I went to the university hospital to identify. Unfortunately the Irish lad has passed away as a result of his injuries from a biking accident since we went to see him.

The difference in descriptions of the initial poster put up in hosonissos of the Irish lad and the one which the Dutch claim to have seen are quite distinct. Local ex-pats and dutch holidaymakers are currently trying to trace the poster but to no avail. Helping us in this quest is Ayline whom without her help the whole poster thing would be a puzzle.

This weekend we will also be updating the www.findstevecook.co.uk site to include a more detailed description of the events of the night he disappeared (after consulting with the UK police and the interviews with Steve's friends) as well as providing more photographs and details of Steve.

We have just had an offer of support from somebody that has contacts which may be of help in tracing Ste's whereabouts. We don't know where this will lead yet but it's another possibility.

There are lots of things and lots of people driving this whole search forward and it gives us even more hope that we'll be bringing the bro back home sooner rather than later.
Well, I don't know what it is, but there's definitely something going on upstairs

Our latest effort to try and keep this story in the news.

http://www.ynwa.tv/news/index.php?newsid=1990

It has been nearly 3 weeks since Liverpool fan Steven Cook (20) was last seen in Malia, Crete.

On Sunday before the Liverpool Manchester United match over 20 friends of Steven along with his brother Chris handed out leaflets to fans asking for help and information.

Over 18 pubs around Anfield agreed to display posters on the day and many shops and businesses along Walton Breck Road also displayed the posters. Whilst handing out the posters one woman took some to display in her local bingo hall.

In all nearly 20,000 leaflets were distributed with many fans taking handfuls to take home to hand out themselves to their own friends and family.

The distribution was organised by friends of Steven who consisted of website posters and university students who gave up their Sunday morning to hand out the leaflets. The Oakfield Pub on Oakfield Road close to the ground, kindly agreed to let its premises be used as a base during the distribution as Steven is a regular visitor there when he attends home matches.

Chris Cook, Steven’s brother said “We took well over 20,000 leaflets to the game and nearly all of them were handed out. I know from my own experience of handing them out that a good many had already heard about Steve, or had already taken a leaflet at a pub or on their way down to the ground. Several stopped and chatted about things they are doing to help - one family stopped and told me that their daughter has extended her stay in Malia to help look for Steve.

You never know what clue we might find to Steve's whereabouts as a result of Sunday. I know the family would like to thank everyone that helped to organise and hand out the leaflets - we are doing every bit that we can to bring Steve home. Even if we nothing comes directly from the leaflet campaign at least we once again got some more tv exposure for Steve's story”.

The family are still appealing for help and if you have any information that you feel could assist them find Steven, please visit www.findstevencook.co.uk or phone Cheshire CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.

Please please either copy and paste the story or send the url to every site/forum you visit, we need to keep this in the public eye.

Thanks

The more people out there that are aware the better.

Just a mention to Loaded magazine, who included the following in their weekly Friday newsletter...

"We rarely do serious stuff on the Bullet, but who are we to turn down a plea for help from Cheshire Police.

Police are appealing for the help of holidaymakers who have recently returned from Crete in the investigation to find 20-year-old student, Steven Cook who remains missing on the Greek island.

Steven Cook, a Liverpool university student, was separated from friends during a pub crawl on the island and has not been seen since. If you recognise him, or have any info, do get in touch with the people below.

Information can also be given to the national missing persons helpline on 0500 700 700 or www.missingpersons.org

If you can help contact DC Gabrielle Lawler-Smith at Chester on 01244 614401 or the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on 020 7270 1500."

We are all praying and hoping that your friend, a  brother of ours, will be found healthy and secure. This incident  is now known in most of our greek forums. I am sure that everybody in Crete are keeping their eyes open for this kid. Try the TV Show that is mentioned in here. It has lots of contacts within the police, and most importantly a huge audience which is willing to help anytime for any missing person.

Apologies for not updating this thread sooner.  Chris and his family have made numerous media appearances in the past week trying to spread the word on Steven's dissappearance.  These include GMTV (national uk breakfast show) and BBC radio.

Steve's case has also just appeared on a Greek TV program dealing with missing persons.

As soon as we know more we'll post it.

Armin,

I was in my local chippy (in Prestatyn) and they had a copy of the local weekly paper (The Visitor).  The story about Steve was in there this week.

I take it there is still no sign of Steve?

I'm a University of Liverpool student and on Thursday we received the following email.

Dear Student

For the past few weeks we have been trying to raise awareness of our friend
Steven Cook's disappearance. Although this may seem like a long shot, we
are hoping that by contacting students like yourself, somebody will have
some information that may help.

Steve went missing in Malia, Crete on September 1st 2005 whilst out there
on holiday with his friends. Information of his disappearance can be found
on www.findstevencook.co.uk . If you have been to Malia, or know anyone who
has been around September 1st, we would greatly appreciate you contacting
them and referring them to the website above.

Steve is an intelligent, kind, considerate young man. He is greatly missed
and we want him to come home and would appreciate your help in bringing him
home sooner.

Please could you forward this email onto everyone you know, particularly
those at other universities.

Thankyou for your time,

Steve's friends at Liverpool University.

ps
I'll try to catch up with that Greek TV programme about missing people.

I think its the same program that Chris Cook is appearing on next week.  They've already featured Steve's case briefly but next week a more in depth look is planned and Chris will be going over to partipate.
Well, I don't know what it is, but there's definitely something going on upstairs

Chris aka Spike has posted an update from Greece.  He'll be appearing on the Greek TV program tomorrow night, details below.  If any of our Greek members happen to catch it please let us know how he did!

Quote
Just come back from the TV station and have met with the reporter who has been looking after Steve's story. She was absolutely brilliant so me and my mate Stig, who's accompanied me on the trip, are going to sit down and write a comprehensive list of everything that's happened so far.

They have asked us to be in the studio for the whole 3 hour duration of the show so it looks like they are going to be doing quite a bit on it. I am also currently practising a bit of Greek which hopefuly i'll be able to do asking people to help the family find Steve.

Currently trying to meet a friend of Stigs friend who works in the consulate just so we can say hello and keep them updated on things that we are doing out here.

For those that want to spread the word out to other forums in Crete etc the show is on Alter TV, it's called the light at the end of the tunnel and is on 11pm local time in Greece, 9pm GMT this Friday night.
Well, I don't know what it is, but there's definitely something going on upstairs

That would be excellent.  I'm thinking it might be useful for Chris to have a copy and if they don't supply him with one on the night perhaps we can find a way of getting him one.

It might help push the story in Greece and elsewhere if stills from the program can be seen on his website etc.

Thanks for your help.

I have been keeping a Chelsea site updated with details on Steve's disappearance. In another desperately troubling case, the daughter of a poster has also gone recently missing.

Please view both appeals here and think if YOU could have seen the missing 15 yr old:

Despite the bad feeling between the two sets of fans, Toby Brown of cfc net has been entirely supportive of my posts about Steve. While they have had an influx of garbage and downright offensive posts from some of our less "dignified " fans both after the semi and final, he and the mods have been great to me on this topic. At the risk of getting my head chopped off here, please don't go there and add to the melee of abuse being thrown both ways.

Terri, Toby's efforts are much appreciated.  I've sent him a mail to say just that and to offer any help we can towards locating Lauren.
