I'm flying business class with Lufthansa next Sat to Shanghai.

I always have a tendency to think anything German is well done.

Anyone flown business class with Lufthansa? Any good?

Depends on the airline. Some specifically state hand luggage + laptop case, some will tell you that a laptop counts as one piece of hand luggage.

Upgraded to business class on the return too!

Best european airline by a mile mate! Last time i flew with them, had about 8 Warsteiner beers in a glass bottle. All the staff speak loads of languages and planes are mega clean.

Flew to and from China with Lufthansa business class.

A top notch service, that I couldn't fault.
The only down-side was that I thought the number of films available was poor.

Fly B.A business class to go back in 2 weeks.

Even though people here have slagged off B.A. surely their business class is very decent?

If you're flying to Dubai with Emirates try and blag a passport control fastpass because it's a bloody nightmare at the moment. I queued for almost an hour to get through passport control there last week and I was near the front of the queue. The people at the back must have had to wait for 2 hours.

Brother in law has stopped flying First with BA cos the service has gone shite. Stuff like double booking his seat and asking him to move, having to repeatedly ask for a drink, not getting the food he ordered, stuff you just don't expect to be putting up with in First. Wasn't a one off either, had problems going to and from Dubai last year and continued on his transatlantic trips.

I am going to be doing a lot of flying to the Middle East in the next few months and can choose between all the flights with Virgin, BA or Emirates.

Anyone with any experience of them, which should I go for?

Emirates by a mile and a half over BA or even Virgin. But if the fare does matter to you then ignore my suggestion.

Never had a problem thus far. The lap top bag is almost always counted as a separate bag on it's own and never had a problem bringing the lap top bag AND another carry on into any flights in the States, Oz or Asia thus far.

Good Airlines:

Royal Brunei (probably the cheapest amongst the quality airlines around. Food is decent. Crew are good. Seats are okey but not as comfy as an economy seat on Singapore or Emirates but sound enough. Clean aircraft. Not so new aircraft. Would use it again if I am tight on cash for sure.)

Singapore Airlines (World class. Economy rocks. Food's good. In-flight entertainment. Spanking new aircraft. Seats are very comfy for a big fella like me. Super duper clean! Crew are professional but a little bit cold in that sense)

Emirates (World class. Economy rocks. Food's outstanding. In-flight entertainment is great. Super duper clean. New aircraft. Comfortable economy seats for a big fella like me. Crew are professional and warm)

Cathy Pacific (World class. Economy is great. Food is good. In-flight entertainment is great. Very clean. Aircraft not as new as Emirates or Singapore but is rated as the best airline, if not one of the top 3 airlines in the world. Seats are comfy for a big fella like me in economy. Crew very professional and warm.)

Thai Airlines (World class. Economy is great. Food outstanding. In-flight entertainment is okey but could be better with choices. Very clean. Aircraft not as new as Singapore or Emirates. Seats are very comfy for a big fella like me in economy. Crew amongst the best I have met thus far. One of the top 5 in the world)

Malaysia Airlines (Supposed to be the best airline in the world. Food is great on international flights. In-flight entertainment is sound but not as good a mix or variety as Emirates or Singapore. Seats are comfy for a big fella like me. Crew are warm and ranked as the best in the world apparently given the awards they keep winning every year. Aircraft are not as new as Emirates or Singapore but clean and comfortable. One of the top 6 airlines for me in the world)

Air Asia (Budget airline out of Malaysia doing the UK-Kuala Lumpur route. Tried it once last year. Seats in economy are uncomfortable for such a long flight. Meals are optional. Crew are alright but don't go out of their way since it's a budget airline. Aircraft are new. Would only fly this if I was absolutely broke and had no choice. Need to buy tickets on this early or their prices are only slightly cheaper than the options above. Beware! Make sure you allow at least 24 hours connecting time for your next flight out of Kuala Lumpur as Air Asia are notorious for being slightly late and they are a point to point carrier meaning if you miss your connecting flight, you need to buy a brand new ticket for that connecting flight. They don't do refunds nor do they give a shit if it's even on their airline. Otherwise, the fastest growing budget airline in the world.)

Ryanair do impose the death penalty for it, though.

Ryan air is a totally fked up airline. I would gladly chuck the idiot who owns it out from 35,000 feet without a parachute. Worst experince ever thus far in my 30 years of travel on Ryan. Cocky staff as well.

Yes. Got an upgrade Perth-Heathrow to 1st class. They'd mucked the booking. Was going back on account of family illness. Got drunk so wasted the upgrade :butt

When you fly asian airlines, you soon realize why people dish out a lot of negative comments about BA and most american airlines.

There is a personal touch and that warm service that they can never offer. Even in business or first class.

American airlines must rank as one of the worst experinces ever (ryan air aside). Rude, old, haggered and "don't give me any hassles" sorta crews...not to mention the pathetic delay's and long wait's on the tarmac.

Flew to Shanghai via Helsinki with Finnair on Tuesday(business class)

I had thought they'd be shite because they aren't one of the main airlines, but they were great.

The stewardesses couldn't do enough for you, and the business lounge was top notch.
Helsinki's was great.

The one negative was that the movies in-flight were on a loop - so you couldn't start/stop/pause when you wanted.
And you had to catch it at the right time to watch from the start - god knows why they have this system?

I am going to be doing a lot of flying to the Middle East in the next few months and can choose between all the flights with Virgin, BA or Emirates.

Anyone with any experience of them, which should I go for?

i just went to thailand on qatar airlines.  flew economy and found the service and food to be excellent.  amazing inflight entertainment which i ignored on the way there but caned on the way back watching inception; social network and mega mind in a triple setting.  we had to stop off in doha and change planes.  on each occasion one leg was on a brand new airbus with touch screens.  the stewardesses were very helpful with our wee man (4 months old) and we actually landed an hour early on the way back.  i recommend the brandy - janneau - if you need something to wash your dinner down with :)  it was also nice that they bumped is up to fast track check in and let us use the business class counter because we were travelling with a baby.

a few years ago i went business class to thailand on ethiad.  they had some deal on as they were a relatively new airline and again i have to say the service was excellent though i slept pretty much the whole way back.

as a general recommend i try to fly virgin as i find the staff helpful and attentive no matter what class you're in.

my recommend to avoid is BA.  rude, surly old bags treating you like your a difficult patient and they're matron even in effing business class.   we went to japan last year and i just found them rude on both legs.  they are an airline of last resort with their tatty chairs; crappy food and poor in flight entertainment.  fly the flag my arse no wonder they're in so much trouble.

Etihad, Qatar and Emirates are getting rave reviews globally for excellent in flight service, meals and for the standards of their flight/aircraft. Not surprised at all.

It's western airlines in general that have fallen on the way side and need to change their attitude.

Virgin aside.

Etihad

I flew Business class with Eithad couple of months ago due to having a contact at Eithad who can get me business class flights to Abu Dhabi for £275 return and I have to say they are easily as good as Emirates. Food good quality and in flight entertainment is very good. Much better than Qatar airways but that said Qatar are by no means crap.

Flew Aeroflot once, Havana to Lima. Mid 90s.

Air conditioning leaking on my head for the entire flight. Told the surly shotputter of a stewardess about my little problem, and she said 'yeah, it's been doing that for weeks'.

A child on a tricycle was merrily going up and down the aisle as we were landing. Shotputter seemingly not bothered.

The highlight was the dubbed version of Vanilla Sky, transmitted onto a bedsheet at the front of the economy cabin. All parts, male and female, dubbed by the same Russian bloke.

Airlines I have flown that I thought were good include,

Singapore Airlines, as many have said good service & entertainment.
Cathay Pacific, as above
Virgin, as above
Air New Zealand, great food & really excellant choice of entertainment really enjoyed flying with them.
Malaysian Airlines, just like Singapore

Crap airlines I've flown are BA & Qantas. Both give average service & entertainment is average. Both airlines have rested on the laurels & are arrogant thinking there great. Flown Qantas many times too & around Australia if it weren't for the fact it works out cheaper on stopovers I'd try to avoid Qantas/BA .

American Airlines were dreadful when I flew to the States recently. The Harridans serving  treated you as a second class citizen, god forbid you should ask a question that removed them from their routine. I did and was treated with the kind of contempt typically reserved for people who interfere with children.

For Europe I use, wherever possible, Swiss Air who are clean polite and courteous and generally on time.

I avoid Ryan Air like the plague, I would rather change my Holiday plans than fly with them.

ALL SHITE. Used to fly across into LA and connect on to either Seattle (Tacoma) to get to Fort Lewis Army Base and to North Carolina (Fort Bragg) and Texas (Fort Hood) and HATED the vast majority of my flights on all three. Also Northwest needs to be added to the list of shite airlines.

The arrogance of the cabin crew really got to me. Called me spoilt but every request seemed like a MAJOR chore for them and it wasn't pleasant. Add to that the silly waiting in the aircraft delays and the "traffic jams" on the tarmac because the airports were unable to cope with the sheer volume of flights in and out of these airports...

Give me the middle eastern/asian airlines ANYDAY.

When I get back to my computer, I'll post you a brilliant pic of why I'm going to try and avoid BA for the rest of history.

BA are terrible, Virgin Atlantic is my preferred choice.

Can't say I have but would love to try Etihad/Qatar/Emirates

Why no airline ever has stewardess in bikini?

Because nobody would be focused on the safety card.

SMD has the photo if he's arsed uploading it.

Haha, I didn't realise I was meant to. Hang on.
