Our realistic ambitions after these two upcoming games could go from "Let's win the title and have a deep run in the CL" to "Let's secure top 4 and grab a cheeky Europa League/FA Cup trophy" ala Arsenal or Chelsea.

I'm not feeling so good after the injuries to Gomez, Lovren, Mane, and Clyne.

Only one of those is long term [Gomez]. All 3 should be back next week. If we needed Mane badly we'd play him but we aren't taking risks and rightfully so.

6 weeks. We're not playing Robertson as the 3rd Cb. We have no need to do that.

Don't know why so many are begging for Keita here. Played the full 90 vs. Burnley. Much rather see him rested and start the Napoli and United games.

Whats odds on Rafael Camacho starting at RB in order to rest Trent? Did brilliant at RB in pre-season and some fans have suggested he could be a replacement for Clyne if he leaves in the summer.

Think I'd rather see that than Fabinho moved there.

It's quite the risk playing Camacho because Bournemouth's front three will get at us fast on the break. If Trent is rested, I think we're more likely to see Fabinho deployed there, with Hendo, Gini and Keita in midfield. And Milly be preserved for Napoli (where we really need the goals and assists).

allison, trent, VVD, matip, robbo/moreno, milner, fabinho, keita, salah, bobby, shaq.
3 midfielders minimum in the next window. And probably another young CB to boot.

They finished 9th in 2016/17 and 12th in 2017/18. Their only relegation fight was their first PL season in 2015/16.

As for the 'dross' you refer to - those 3 players were ever-present throughout their 3 promotion seasons, helping the team get from League Two to 7th place in the PL. They've formed the backbone of a defence in a side that has finished 9th and 12th in the last 2 seasons, individually costing less than Mo Salah earns in a week.

Perspective.

16/17 - Were as low as 16th in MW 33, they were never solidly mid table
17/18 - Were bottom 3 until MW 20

Defensively in 16/17 - 5th most goals allowed, 4th worst in xGA
Defensively in 17/18 - 4th most goals allowed, 19th in xGA

That's great that they helped them get promoted.  They sure as heck aren't PL level and the club is at risk of going down until they replace them or like this season do their utmost to where they don't have the ball.

We could also use Milner at RB to rest Trent.

Just used transfermarkt to figure out how many positions he has actually played for us since joining.

CM - 51
DM - 3
RM - 20
LM - 11
LB - 40

So yes, might be worth tossing him in at RB just to continue his quest to play every position for us. Failing that, throw him in to replace Gomez at CB as well.

Camacho ought to play when we are up against a defensively minded relegation threatened team at home. So Trent can play the next two and be on the bench next Sunday.

Fabinho can also play CB so we have options.

Can VVD realistically play tomorrow,Weds and against United considering he’s already played 2 games in 4 days (Everton/Burnley) ? If he gets injured we are fked.

Central defenders are normally capable of playing 38 league games per season unless suspended or they're injury-prone. Especially in a top team, they don't need to run all that much and can save the effort for when they're under pressure.

It’s not 38 games though is it with CL and cups. 5 games in 15 days for any player is pushing it.

Should we qualify for the knock out stages (don't want to tempt fate!), they won't start until February by which time Joe Gomez should at least be back fit.

In recent weeks it seems as though we've almost constantly had to play after Manchester City and have always had to win just to keep up. If we win this we go top, even for just a few hours. Let those c*nts feel the pressure for once and see how they respond to it.

Another tough one tomorrow, what mainly concerns me is how quick it comes after the last two. Of course we're the early game at fucking Bournemouth :wanker

Hopefully they play into our hands as they did last year when we played down there, we had the game won at half time. This year I think it'll be far tougher with them managing their game a lot better. Still though, they've lost 4 of their last 5 league games, and do still concede a few goals. Certainly don't see a 4-0 but I think we will do them 2-1, Salah on the scoresheet again alongside Naby hopefully  :)

That's great that they helped them get promoted.  They sure as heck aren't PL level and the club is at risk of going down until they replace them or like this season do their utmost to where they don't have the ball.

You've selectively pulled out stats to suit your argument there, and I could equally pick out arbitrary match weeks when they were much higher.

We clearly see the game differently if you think dross players are regularly starting for a team sitting in 7th place in December. Just because players were in League One 5 years ago and cost £150,000 doesn't mean they aren't Premier League standard now, and I think its a little disingenuous to criticise a smaller club's defence when ours was god awful for years despite costing tens of millions.

Its all about perspective and context. What I see is a club currently sitting in the European spots, 14 points above the relegation zone nearing the halfway point of the season - even after losing 4 of their last 5 games. They are not even remotely in trouble. Their defenders have helped keep them in the top tier for 3 seasons, so clearly they're doing something right whilst clubs that are considerably bigger and richer have been relegated each year. Since promotion Howe has had the funds to replace those players and has chosen not to, and I think his judgement on players is probably a lot better than ours considering his track record.
I've got OCD, but I prefer to call it CDO so it's in alphabetical order.

Massive game on Tuesday it would be easy to overlook a tough fixture here. Bournemouth are playing some excellent football but they give up plenty of chances too. VVD-Matip needs another run out here as they will most likely have to start on Tuesday. Full backs is interesting, Trent and Roberston will be needed v Napoli and United so I would be tempted to rest them here even with Bournemouth's decent attack. Not sure about Clynes fitness and Camacho full debut would be a testing one tomorrow although he is a very good player. Keita and Shaqiri have to start for me, need their quality on the ball to open up the game. No Mane so I think Salah and Firmino probably both start. Henderson also keeps place, I'd expect Milner and Gini to start on Tuesday with the 3rd place up for grabs so not sure if either start here.

I’d have no worries about Camacho if Klopp starts him, he obviously believes he’s ready if so. Don’t really mind what team we field though, the 3 points is the main thing.
Early kick offs haven’t tended to affect our results so far this season, more perhaps the fluency of the performance, I’d be quite happy for that trend to continue.

Just win red men, set us up for the most important game of the season so far.

Really tricky game.

Burnley was hard because the game could have swung toward their agricultural style. However they’re so bad that calm heads were all that were needed to see us through.

Bournemouth however can actually play. I think they’ve been very unlucky to lose against some of the bigger teams they’ve faced. There’s a good chance they hold us to a draw here, and a lurking danger they break our unbeaten record. First game of the weekend, everyone wanting us to blink first in the title race, tricky little ground to visit...

We should have enough, and hopefully the likes of Salah are fresh after sitting out most of Wednesday’s game.

Camacho should be fine if called upon he has bundles of talent but you always worry about young player making their debuts especially in games that are meaningful. Win here and we send a message to City who have an always difficult trip to the bridge. Time to put the pressure on and see how they respond. Even being the early kickoff I believe the pressure will firmly be off unless we get a good lead out in 1st, everyone still expects City to run away with the title
