Had similar experience, Apple are just a nightmare when it comes to that sort of thing. Easy to upload your data onto their devices but good luck getting it back from their universe.

I've got 1000's of photos stored on Icloud and want to download a few hundred of them to my desktop

There is no option to select multiple pictures!!! You have to download each one individually!! I downloaded the Icloud desktop app and that enables you to download ALL photos from Icloud but id just like to click on what i want within Icloud and download them, to a folder of my choice.

I believe this option used to be available on Icloud but Apple have since removed it. Probably as you say, to make it difficult to move your storage elsewhere.

I think it was either last summer or the summer before, but around here we didn't have water for weeks because of a bug in the supplies. Luckily it wasn't as hot as it has been lately. Has your water come back?

Dunno yet, will check when I get home. Can always use the work or gym shower but that's still a massive pain in the arse. Thames Water are apparently on the case.

side note, not so much angry but sad to see this week that it appears two businesses that did so much work for my wedding a couple of years back appear to be gone

Maybe not such a small thing but a heads up for those who travel via Arriva.
Could be an isolated incident,would be surprised if it was but anyone who purchases a ticket on an Arriva bus with cash (single journey) should check their ticket.
My better half got into a right fracas after the driver pocketed the fare after issuing a 'zero fare' ticket..ticket inspectors boarded,murder ensued..complaint going in.
