The Meh Scottish Football Thread
« on: July 1, 2014, 08:14:14 am »
about time this was started , some good news to start with , mini messi is seemingly off to Sporting Lisbon as united accept a 3 million bid .Great move for the lad if it goes through , we need more of our technically good players to learn their trade out with these isles or we will end up as bad as England as they get kicked from one end of the pitch to the other as they 'learn their trade'.Bad news is we will have next to nothing of it to spend as most will go to debt , but hey ho , we are a selling club and will continue to be , moves like this will attract more players like the young lad that came from the rangers and many others who used to think they can sign up with celtic , the rangers , and their careers just nose dive as they end up benched .
The lad is real talent and his former mentor Ian Cathro is in Portugal with Rio Avenue so would imagine he has talked this through with him and can see it can only be a good move .Exciting times ahead in Scottish football as I see talent coming through at all levels , wee ginge with the Scottish team doing his bit too .

(Word had it Cathro was moving to 'a big two' Portuguese club as assistant manager. I think we know which club now.)

I honestly think we're about to hit an Age of Enlightenment in Scottish football. Young lads have had Cathro and Wotte in their ears broadening their horizons. By 2022 we'll be World Cup semi finalists and lose controversially on penalties.

Ha ha , aye , always had good players up to about 18 , been to a World Cup final at U16s , and compete regularly in the big tournaments and also beat England this year in the victory shield to win it .After that growth falls off for many reasons , big clubs preferring foreign journey men , brutal challenges etc , but here's hoping Gauld is the first of a new breed willing  to broaden horizons , with the new coaching coming in and elite academies we will be humping the English regularly as their media looks for someone to blame :) , oh aye almost forgotten 'Armageddon ' , has been great .

Probably because most people outwith Scotland aren't really interested in a league that's over by the 3rd month of the season.

Great move for the young boy Gauld hopefully, I agree it would do our young lads way better to move abroad more often. Look how it improved guys like Lambert & Collins. Of course, you have guys like O'Conner, but he just seemed intent on wasting his career anyway!

Kris boyd will win rangers the league again on his own, theirs no better finisher in that division and the chances that rangers create he will score a hatful

Ha ha you wish , lad has too much sense to stay in Scotland at the ugly sisters ,like most young players now they understand going to either of the Glasgow clubs is detrimental to mosts development , just look at the young guy Telfer that knocked back the rangers to join a better club .

Fantastic schooling for a winger that club.

There gone in for former tranmere player Aaron Cresswell instead...

On another note, it's good to see Craig Gordon making a comeback, I know it's only as back up but he was a great shot stopper on his day and I hate seeing any players career ruined by injuries, hope he does well if he's given a chance

Only 5 minutes in but looking like celtic should rightly steam roll them , disappointed with their new manager trailing out the old we shouldn't have to play so many games , Scottish football isn't good enough etc , if he knew his history he would know we had our highest euro points level when Aberdeen and dundee united were competing regularly in Europe while the wee Glasgow teams struggled to get fans , wasn't till murray and money changed/ ruined it all and Scottish football went down hill since , thankfully since rangers died its on its way back up , just wish some of these muppets would think before they open their mouths and let their bellies rumble .

Made up for McGregor who was on loan last season getting game time rather than wasting in the development squad.

Fantastic signing
You will now have our old centre mids that won the cup , hope they do a turn for you , him and jimmy played very well together and hopefully they have that old magic and get you straight back up , hoping for your local rivals to come straight back up too but they seem to be in a right mess .

Whats Everyone's thinking of their teams summer signings so far?

our main budget has been blown on resigning players, but we have brought in two players Josh law - brother of Nicky who use to play for us and a keeper who we had on loan for 5 games last season Dan Twardzik

The boy Telfer who didn't want to play for the rangers and preferred to play for us ,looks a good catch as does spittal , just signed a Dutch striker too , sad to see Gauld go and expecting our best player Andrew Robertson to go but we have had him for 1 season and will make 2 million on him , so a good bit of business , would prefer he stays but money talks .

On a brighter note , a big twos up to this orcian paper that was trying to drag Scottish football down when their favourite club died , from 2 years ago , Armageddon :):) , Scottish football is flying just now .

Boyd and Miller will win us promotion, i've got my reservations about the short term nature of such signings but they'll score plenty in the Championship and probably get us over the line.  Zaliukas will hopefully be an improvement on McCulloch in defence.

No idea at all why Darren McGregor was signed though, was he even much of a stand out at St Mirren?

Urm yeah... really?!

And I expect it will be really close between a group of teams for promotion this season.  And Hibs aren't one of them (do they have a squad yet?) There is an interesting preview and predictions seem to be split quite closely between who will win the league.

Ooft lee miller , nae luck , we had him for a season having smart hair is the only 'good' thing I could say about him .
Just had another offer for Andrew Robertson from hull , been knocked back though , English clubs trying to steal the best left back in Scotland , very surprised the bigger clubs haven't been in yet he is a natural modern left back , a fantastic player .

If this is the case hopefully that translates itself to some decent European results & a semi competitive league.....that's what the rest of the UK & Europe will judge us on, not the fact Dundee Utd have produced a couple of good players.

Hopefully the national team performs well in the Euro qualifiers as well.
