If we offered him 200k it'd be the league record. 300k would put him on par with Ronaldo and Messi. While you can argue at the moment he is performing like them, he isn't near them as a brand.

I don't think so. I think Yaya is on 220k right now. 250 for Luis would be perfect.

Will we able to afford that?
Of course with the money from CL and possibly the PL title.  ;D

If we qualify for Champions League, I think he will be here for another season. However, without CL-football after this season, I think everyone will understand if he wants to leave.

However, I dont want to talk about this now. He will be here to the end of the season at least, so lets just enjoy the massive talent he is and make the most of him to help us qualify.

It doesn't matter what you pay him a week if he wants to leave for top class football.

I'd imagine he'd be happy on £150k a week here with CL football, and not if he was on £200k without it.

Then again we'll be in the CL next season so not sure why the talk about him going :)

Having a team built around you as a striker can do wonders for confidence. We saw it with Torres hen he was THE MAN here and what happened when he left to be a squad player at Chelsea.

Suarez should realise that despite his unbelievable talent he's also fortunate to have a club who are willing to build around him to be successful. At Real or PSG he'd just be another player among many stars and his confidence probably wouldn't be as high.

Like I said before, Give him an offer he can't refuse (£250 grand p/w) on a 5 year contract, make him vice captain (after Stevie). Make the offer now and sign up some other top players. I'm sure he'll realise that Liverpool was made for him.

I think you have the order of events wrong there, sign some players in january to prove our intent and that would help any contract discussions that followed.

This so many times over. He could stay with us and be revered forever, or just become another Real Madrid player.

So Madrid don't have history?  They don't revere their great players from the past? I hate this romantic nonsense.

When was the last time we had a leading scorer cross the 30 goal mark? Never mind us, when was the last time the PL had that?

Wish I had a list, but I think the last one was when Rush scored 32 in the 83-84 season (47 in all comps).  The highest ever for Liverpool in a season is 41 from Roger Hunt in 61-62.  Suarez is on a pace to finish the season with 51 Premier League goals.  The PL record for a 38 game season is 31 by both Shearer and Ronaldo.

Expect us to turn it down.  We must secure a CL spot.  That is the key to be able to take the next step and build a squad capable of constantly challenging for trophies.  That money is useless unless we can qualify for the CL and attract top players.

Hope all those doubting whether he should have been given the armband will now have the grace to come on here and admit he did us proud today.

He scored 4 without the armband, he's a bloody good player, that was never in question. What's there to admit?

I'm not proud of handing the armband to a player who wanted off, manouevred like hell, called his manager a liar,  and will likely go off if we don't make the champions league anyway. Yes, the captaincy isn't a big issue, but it's one of the few things that can represent an emotional aspect of a club in modern football, it's one thing I would prefer reserved for a player who actually cares just a little about the club.

Luis Suarez is never a fucking captain of this club no matter how many goals he scores  or assists this year.  Stay here for a few years, then we'll see.

I think Suarez looks a lot more focused and mentally stable this year. You could see it in that bit where he got tripped on the edge of the box and instead of making a song and dance about it he just kept trying to score.

Think about it, when was the last time you saw him take a really bad dive or throw a tantrum?

He's really made an effort to chill a bit this year.  Today, I think he made an even greater effort to keep his emotions in check with the armband.

But things are also going well.  It's usually when Suarez and the team have been struggling that he has had issues with diving or constantly complaining.

He's given blood and sweat since the summer and is doing the best he can to rectify mistakes and choices he made. He's our best and most inspirational player and all the other players clearly have respect for him and look up to him. Its not a decision Brendan would have took lightly imo. And it was the right decision btw.

Yeah, I was wondering what his success rate with free kicks last time he knocked one in. It seems absurdly high with us since the beginning of last season. Because I don't remember him taking that many but he seems to have scored 7 or 8 with us alone off the top of my head.

While you're not wrong and I totally agree with what you say.

Perhaps offering him this chance, the captaincy, showing what he could have and trying to show him love and show we want him, could actually make him stay?
Maybe he he keeps knuckling down, behaving, being an example and goes on to be our captain for the next 5 years after securing CL football this year.

You never know.

Or he's a mercenary twat who'll be out the door first chance he gets?

Time will tell.

Re: Luis Alberto Suárez Díaz - 17 goals & 10 assist worth of 'I told you so'

We have to give credit to Comolli there, of course he bought some poor players at premium prices, but he played a blinder with Suarez.
By "playing a blinder", do you mean the fact he didn't identify or target him (before his time), or the fact the chancer did his utmost to piss off Ajax and almost fuck up the deal, with Luis beginning to look at other alternatives? Thank god the football gods took pity on us after the preceding 6 months of torture and damnation.

Have to agree with this. It didn't sit right with me at all.
