There is still alot of research going on into the effects of concussion and head injuries as it's not fully understood. There are a few impact sports people (NFL, WWE, UFC and boxing) that have agreed to donate their brains for science when they die.
Thanks for your reply mate.

I was more on about what actually goes on inside the body when a punch connects to get the knockout.
i.e. not the long term effects of head impact, but what actually happens inside the body/head that makes someone get knocked out..

non-Boxing aficionado here in peace with a question...
me and me mate were having a bit of a discussion on knockouts yesterday...basically the mechanics of one.
to my knowledge, a knockout occurs when the head is hit and rotates violently making the brain rattle, then comes the fall.
me mate said no - it happens because the head rotating momentarily stops oxygen from getting to the brain..
what is the truth of the matter?

I don't know the answer to this, but I don't think it's to do with rotation. Pretty sure I read somewhere that lateral head movement is the most likely to cause KOs, but I also think I read that the straight right is the punch that causes the most KOs which would make sense. Still nothing to do with rotation.

I think it's a nervous system thing rather than respiratory.

Interesting!

I've never considered it being anything other than a 'brain rocking / concussion' thing.

So my understanding is that if a fighter has a 'weak chin' this sort of means he has a 'weak neck' that cannot stop his head from rocking this way or that to 'absorb' the force of a punch....leading his head/brain to rock instead aka knockout.

I was never good at biology! When you say 'nervous system rather than respiratory', what do you mean?

I was under the impression its when the brain touches the actual inside of the skull, causes a lights out moment, probably wrong

What I meant is that I think it's the brain banging against the skull rather than it losing oxygen, so closer to your idea than your friends. You're right about the 'weak chin' though.

There's different types of KO though and I don't know if they're all caused by the same thing. Sometimes the lights go out and they go to sleep, like Pacquiao when he got KOd by JMM. Then you get the chicken dance where they're awake but the legs have gone from under them. And you get the ones on the ear where they lose balance, like Price the first time he got KOd.

Not to mention KOs to the body which probably are respiratory most of the time.

Great piece on The Hurricane on the BBC website:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/Hurricane

The BBC’s World Service has been investigating three murders that took place at the Lafayette Bar and Grill in Paterson, New Jersey in 1966. Over the past 15 weeks ‘The Hurricane Tapes’ podcast has been broadcast.

Before that, there was simply the Hurricane – Rubin Carter. This is his story.

Was just thinking that I won't be home and trying to work out if I can avoid the result before I get back. But I don't think there's any point avoiding the result for this one!

I hope Crolla's corner have the sense to stop the fight if their man is getting a going over. Crolla will give it everything but is badly overmatched here as I think we all know. Most likely outcome is a Loma TKO or RSF by round 8 or 9.

Crolla is going to get beaten heavily. Simply to one paced to even trouble lomachenko.
As has been said, hopefully his corner will do the right thing if it goes as expected.

Good luck to him. Would always take the fight but he doesn’t have much chance.

It's only sever injury to Lomachenko that would have him lose this fight. Crolla not a puncher, stopped a few wannabes to the body but Loamchenko is elite and elites dont get stopped to the body by and large. This could get ugly real quickly.

Anyone know when t is scheduled to kick off?

One thing I like about Gallagher. When his fighter is getting ashellacking he quietly asks them if they want to continue, intact he whispers so.that it is inaudible. I think it's class. He did that when Liam Smith was getting marmalised by Canelo and Smith to his credit was like 'don't you f king dare' or words to that effect

Crolla folded like an accordion, I originally thought Loma had pierced him with a body blow. Boxing is about levels and while Crolla has had a good career and some big nights, he’s never been an elite level fighter. Still fair play to him for taking the fight.

As comparison 40-0 WBO Champion Ramirez got paid $250k

I thought this fight was in the early hours of Sunday. :butt

Oh well it went the way i thought it would with a early stoppage.

I heard on the radio this morning that Loma was calling out Mikey Garcia.
"Since its purchase by the sheikh of Abu Dhabi, Manchester City has managed to cheat its way into the top echelon of European football and create a global, immensely profitable football empire, ignoring rules along the way. The club's newfound glory is rooted in lies."

A 5 seconds before the head punch he was hit was a lovely powerful body punch. Think he was it bits after that.

You're spot on. Boxing is about levels and Khan will get the same treatment next week.

I think your right, the only way I can see Khan winning is if he fights near perfect fight and we saw him come unstuck in his last fight although he rode out the storm unlike against Canelo.

There's talk that Top Rank want to bring Loma over to fight Luke Campbell at the 02 arena.

Lomachenko made it very clear what he wanted to do when he turned pro.  Any promoter who signed him had to get him the shot.  He wanted the title shot in his first pro fight.  Not like he's been Pete Rademacher.  He wanted it, he was good enough.  Why fuck about with 12 months going 5-0 against guys who have no intention of beating you?

Just caught up with the fight. Should have been stopped at the end of the 3rd, then the ref starts counting when Crolla is face down on the deck.

We moan about British stoppages but I'd much prefer it that way round.
