Liverpool supporters attacked in Seville
« on: November 22, 2017, 03:28:42 am »
Echo reporting that several  of away Reds have been attacked by the police and  were not allowed to enter the stadium. Has anyone traveled to the match on here, can anyone shed more  light on this?

It happened to loads. Loads of ours we're stuck outside without even getting in while the match was on.

Right. Gonna keep this brief and give my thoughts (and expect I’ll get abuse for it but never mind).
I went into the stadium at about 7.30 and the system they had was working, slowly, then a middle aged bloke was starting to kick off because he had his ticket taken off him at the check point For being fake  (he was not happy because they would not give it back) he was going into 1 fronting the buzzies and you could see a change with them straight away. In the end they ripped his ticket up (I think that’s what I heard him say) during this time he could be heard shouting off and when other supporters asked if the ticket was from the club he said NO, bought it before the game....for me here starts the tension. I’ve been travelling home and away for too many years but it amazes me why we wait so late too go in a ground knowing the hassle we get!
The police are just waiting for any reason to apply there POWER and yield a Barton or 2. It’s no excuse but they really do love the way they get away with it. So if your going to turn up with 15-20 mins before kick off and expect to walk straight into the stadium you obviously haven’t been to too many away games (in Europe or Priemier league)
It’s always the same late comers in groups, some trying to bunk in, some with fakes, so sensible others bevied up. It always happens and always will.
It’s not an excuse but the club advise us to get in early to avoid any hassle. It’s not just Spanish police, it’s all of them and it’s not right.
To clarify I’m on the side of LFC SUPPORTERS and hope nobody was too seriously injured.

The spanish police have always been like that, just waiting for any reason to kick off.

Barcelona they were very heavy handed and in Madrid the other year taking footballs off kids to cause a reaction.

Arrive at stadium early simple.

Clearly said on all information provided that bags were not permitted into the stadium so dont turn up with one.

You might want to expand on your thoughts there.

I`ve been to loads of European aways and tend to agree with a lot of what he`s said there, although I can`t comment on last night as I wasn`t there. I`ve seen it many times, large groups turning up close to kick off causing tension trying to get in.

Cheers.

Although, such thoroughness always seem to be missing at matches that I attend.  I'm not talking about a large number of matches but still, I always seem to pretty much walk into the ground with no fuss at all without body searches or even a bag search(Istanbul!) and I always get the ticket in town before the match.  I guess I'm just lucky in that regard.

Club have released a statement:

Following detailed and troubling accounts given by Liverpool supporters attending the match against Sevilla last night, the club is seeking to establish the facts regarding their treatment at the hands of the host stewards and local police force.

The safety and security of our supporters is our paramount concern and we intend to gather all the relevant information before responding further.

The system was that once you got in to seating area the police filled up one section first no matter where your ticket was for. If you stupidly showed police your ticket was for empty section behind police line you were met with an aggressive shove and more police moving towards you. Terrible organisation inside ground. Police seemed to be hoping for confrontation so they could kick off. Outside was no different than other European games, bag search, frisk and then show ticket.

There's a cue to police action when in Spain. If you see them removing baseball caps and replacing with helmets then if you are within arms reach you will be hit with a baton so my suggestion would be to move well away.

They are totally indiscriminate, anyone and I mean anyone in range will be hit.

The system they had in place was never going to work. It took the best part of an hour to get in. They were throwing their weight around. Pushing people, getting right in their faces including women.

Yep, experienced that before, Barcelona last time and the only time I've followed our club's instructions. Ironically best away ever was in Seville when we played Betis, great craic no hassle at all.

On the BBC:

Quote
Liverpool request facts after fans complain about Seville stewards and police

Liverpool fans claim police were violent and that their entry to the stadium was delayed
Liverpool are investigating claims fans were subjected to violent policing and denied entry to Tuesday's Champions League draw away to Sevilla.

Fans shared stories of policing at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on social media, some claiming to have been punched.

Liverpool said accounts from supporters were "detailed and troubling".

In a statement, Uefa said: "We are aware that there were some issues at the away supporters entrances in regards to fans accessing the stadium."

European football's governing body added it had no further comment to make at this stage

Liverpool said they are "seeking to establish the facts" about fans' treatment "at the hands of the host stewards and local police force".

The club added: "The safety and security of our supporters is our paramount concern and we intend to gather all the relevant information before responding further."

Fans complained of rough treatment and being stopped from entering Sevilla's stadium before kick-off, while others claim to have had flags and possessions confiscated.

Liverpool supporter Craig Hannan tweeted: "Missed first goal despite arriving at stadium 30 minutes before, mate doesn't get in, people beat up by police, police in riot gear not letting you go to your seat pushing you anywhere. Took my bag from me, now won't let us out for me to get it."

More to follow.

Must have been lucky when we got in about an hour from KO. Barely even glanced in my bag. The system inside was ridiculous though with filling up one section till it was heaving before opening the next.

In general thought the police were OTT all day. Confiscating footballs and flags in the square and just the sheer numbers of them around everywhere like they were hoping for it to kick off to prove their point. Flight home had about 10 armed guards escorting us through!
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. And no surprise UEFA do nothing about it.

Mind you when you see what the National Police did in Barcelona it's no surprise.

The police here seemed to have learned lessons and the stadia are policed by local forces. Both France and Spain have National Police riot units whose statutory responsibilities include starting and finishing the riot.

I got to the ground reasonably early so to be honest, missed most of all this. Queued a bit and got searched, but that was to be expected so no issues there.

The one thing I did see was right at the end, after they had held us back and we're starting to allow certain sections to go. The section over the other side was still being held back and then all of a sudden I saw a riot policeman run over and started to hit the guy at the front of the section with his baton. I couldn't see brilliantly, but lots of other people did, you could hear the anger in the crowd when they realised what was happening. Fortunately the policeman heard this too I think and stopped, because it felt like it was very close at this point to people having enough of being randomly assaulted by the police and were going to start to fight back.

Anyone else have a clearer view of what went on here?

We attempted to go left upon exiting the stadium as that was the way back to our hotel, met with a no and an unprovoked shove to the chest. Immediately we turned around to go the other way, the same c*nt that shoved us, followed us 5 yards and shoved us in the back again. Clearly looking to incite violence.

hmmmmm... Sorry but half of that is bollocks playing the "Im holier than thou" thing. When youre there it is different.

Maybe you should ask the Club 'why' so many fans had to collect tickets at a Hotel between 18:30 and 20:45? I complained to the Club when I was there. I had to pick up a ticket, waited in a queue for 45 mins, walked straight to the Ground and arrived 30 mins before kick off. Queued to get in, and managed to be in our seats 5 mins before kick off.

Luckily me and me mates didnt see anything... Looks like we missed it by minutes.

We got to the stadium early - at least an hour before kick off.  The searches and checks on way in by stewards were okay.  But as others have noted, we were not allowed to go to the section for our tickets.  One section had just got filled as we got there and police had cordoned it off.  It looked very packed and people were asking to come into our section, which at that point was less packed, but police refused.  The ladies toilets were in the other cordoned off section and daughter was told by Spanish police that she had to use the men’s toilet.  The men’s toilet in our section was very busy by then and unacceptable for daughter to have to use it.  Spanish police would not make any exception for her to go to ladies - wouldn’t let her across cordon. It was 30 min before ladies toilets and refreshment kiosk accessible from our section.

When we came out we literally just had to walk across that bit of open area to get to our coach. Police suddenly appeared out of nowhere and decided we couldn't walk in a straight line for no apparent reason. One guy tried to walk behind one of the policemen instead of in front of him (there was literally no reason not to be able to do that and it was less crowded too) and he was shoved back and made to walk in front of the officer. Pointless and just causes more problems than it solves. Everyone was knackered, pissed off with the result and just wanted to get home, why make things harder than they need to be just to exert a bit of power?
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

We got there around an hour before kick-off. No issues getting in. Two very thorough searches – literally had my balls squeezed by one of the policeman.

Got in and couldn’t get to our seats – I know you pretty much stand where you want on Euro aways but we had made plans to meet mates where our seats were. We were kettled in to one block and told to sit anywhere. Was getting very busy in there so decided we’d try to move to our block which was only 20% full. Went down and with loads of other on the concourse were met by a line of overzealous policeman who were just pushing us back and being over-aggressive.

We ended up going back to the block we were kettled into and watched the game from the stairs by the glass divide between us and the home fans.

Wasn’t too bad for us at all compared to the stories I’ve heard. A lot of my mates got the ground 20 minutes after us and missed the first 10 mins of the game.

I wasn't at the stadium, as I had no ticket, so didn't see any of the stories mentioned.......but, earlier in the day plain clothes coppers were filming us having a small 'kickabout' and asked us to remove banners which we had up 'because they were on a government building' - ok, fair enough we did so. But, obviously, that was just a prelude to later on. I think all these stories especially the ones where supporters have been attacked, need to be gathered together and passed via SOS to the club. They can't be allowed to get away with this.

Which half is bollocks in what I said?
I've often stayed and had another beer instead of getting into a ground early (knowing I will have a more difficult time in getting in, that's the bad influence of enjoying myself with friends on the beer), but if I can, yes I do try to be 'holloier than thou' (as you put it) to avoid such hassle, and take the edge off what should be an enjoyable away trip.

I also collected my tickets from the Hotel and walked to the stadium with plenty of time. Yes it's questionable why the club had us do this with such time restraints? (But that's a different debate).

As I Said at the beginning of my first post, there will be some that disagree with my comments, So I hope you had a good trip (and many more ) SwedenRed.

Hello,

Tottenham Fan here.  We played Seville in 2007 and the same thing happened to us.  Police carried out unprovoced attacks on fans inside the stadium.  It was terrible.  If you Google "Spurs Seville" you will see the photos and there is plenty of footage on Youtube.

The Metropolitan Police gave commendations to the Spurs Stewards for bravery when they got in between the Police to stop more Spurs fans getting hurt.

Nothing came of the incidents.

Hope everyone got back ok.

Regards
