Speaking to a nurse i know a week or so back  and she tends to think it will be more than likely be Astra but she did say it will tend to vary from area to area so think she covered all bases basically

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for a halt to the sale of live wild mammals in food markets to prevent the emergence of new diseases.

The WHO said that while traditional markets play a central role in providing food and livelihoods for large populations, banning the sale of live wild mammals could protect the health of market workers and shoppers alike.

It urged countries to suspend the sale of live animals captured from the wild in food markets as an emergency measure, saying some of the earliest known cases of Covid-19 had a link to a wholesale traditional food market in Wuhan in China, with many of the initial patients stall owners, market employees or regular visitors to the market.

AFP reports the interim guidance was drawn up alongside the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

“The guidance calls on countries to suspend the sale of captured live wild mammals in food markets as an emergency measure,” the WHO said.

“Animals, particularly wild animals, are the source of more than 70% of all emerging infectious diseases in humans, many of which are caused by novel viruses. Wild mammals, in particular, pose a risk for the emergence of new diseases,” it said.

I suppose my point is why after all of this multiple atomic bomb of a pandemic do countries still seem to stand by and do nothing? The WHO can release as many of these 'advisements' as possible but countries responsible will still do whatever they want.

Seems to a complete layman that everyone is kind of like 'oh well, lets just hope it doesn't happen again'. Not that China for example would probably bend easily to any amount of pressure, but why are there not much wider calls for worldwide reform if animals are the source of over 70% of new diseases? It's not like the last year or so has been fun or anything.

Think you've misunderstood me slightly. I'm all for opening up society again, I was just saying that is why, in my opinion, governments restricted people meeting up outside as it would lead to further, potentially more serious rule breaches.

Totally agree, it should not even be open for discussion as to why some countries are allowing this practice.  The conditions the animals are kept in is appalling so it's no wonder these markets are festering diseases

I think that's right too, I mean the time bomb has already gone off, all across the planet, but it is doesn't stop ticking and I don't see any reaction to something that so easily could lead to another bomb happen again next year, next month, next week.

I just find it very confusing that there has been no full on reaction to this and it makes me feel I am missing something when it makes no sense whatsoever.

In my very layman mind there is a lot of evidence to support a direct link to many of these viruses, so why nothing really tough seems to be getting done about it is just very odd to me. I also just absolutely dread having to spend another year or so of my life like the last, as it has been absolutely horrific for so many, so I suppose it just maddens me seeing very little reaction or call for change.

If J&J ends up with similar risks to AZ, it will be difficult for some European countries to justify not putting down the same heavy age restrictions in for J&J that are in place for AZ.

A reasonable chance we will encounter the same rare issues in countries which are buying Sputnik as well.

The EU has a lot of J&J on order as well and is expecting to start rolling out next week

Problem with this is the way the media portrays things it just leads to vaccine hesitancy, which prolongs the problem. A recent study of Canadians eligible (ages 55-65) to get AstraZeneca found around half don't want it because it's viewed as inferior, despite exploding case numbers. Even the populist idiot in charge of Canada's most populous province openly he said he didn't want AstraZeneca and that he'd wait (before the prick eventually relented, got it and then pretended the vaccine killed him after getting it )

 Last week, there was a kerfuffle after Canada's equivalent of the BBC published a Facebook journalism type story about a woman who was told she needed a vaccine before having surgery. She claims she was told by her doctor she would getting Pfizer. Instead she got AstraZeneca and went on a lengthy rant about it.

It's not like going to McNasty's and getting a McChicken after asking for a Big Mac, but it's being viewed as a status symbol. Moderna/Pfizer should be prioritized for people with the most risk based on age and condition. The risks of AZ should be relayed in relation to other scenarios (i.e long-haul flights, birth control etc)

That's why I prefer to look at the numbers by date tested rather than date reported - it at least removes some of the noise (as does looking at rolling 7 day totals). Only issue is that there is a bit of a lag.

Yesterday's result were definitely unusual though - numbers were changed for 357 different days, going all the way back to 3rd March last year - there were only 48 days in that period that didn't change!

Incredibly busy compared to first time. To be expected I suppose. Think they were doing 400 to 500 per day back in February, and had done nearly 400 by midday today. At this point,  if we lived in a world where there existed a basic concern for your fellow man,  Pfizer -  biontech would be open source and mass produced by every company in the field in every country.

We obviously don't,  other than for empty finger pointing, as evinced by the  vaccination process and availability in high,  middle and low income countries.

Not a particularly wholesome lesson but this is a nice real time,  uncomplicated demo to the rest of the world to  pursue growth,  control,  money.  Short of lying,  there's not much else to offer. It's sad to be honest.  Expected this pattern,   still.

The footnotes to that chart say that the asterisks mean that more people of that age group have been vaccinated than the ONS estimates thought would be there. So overall is more than 100% enough for London to still be 91% of the estimated figure.
