Thanks for that.

I wonder is this  covid related and things might improve or is this it until this shower lose the franchise.

Can't seem to find any info as to wether advance fares should be offered on all journeys.

Can't be just football travellers getting shafted surely?

It is. I've looked on other days and other weekends where Liverpool aren't at home and there are or were advanced fares for all of them, including busy trains.

It'll be like this until they lose the franchise is my guess.

Managed to get my Palace tickets for £34 with them, I bet they're gutted they fucked that up and didn't double their profits!

With the Arsenal game now at 5.30pm on a Saturday it looks like there is no train back to London (unless you want to leave at half time). Mind boggling that there is no train after 8pm.

there is an 8.04pm West Midlands train change at B'ham gets back at 12.40am, not ideal but you can get back. There is a fast train through Crewe that leaves a few minutes before that train arrives in Crewe, on off chance it was running late you could hop over (while they haven't aligned those times so you can change I have no idea). And yes the lack of a direct train after 7.48pm to London on a Saturday has always been mind boggling.

You'd miss the last 5 minutes or so of the match to get back to Lime Street in time for that train, which is a shame because there's actually advanced fares out for that day!

Thanks. The odd thing is that there does seem to be a later train on Sundays. You’d think Avanti might see an opportunity to make money.

I may have to take a pass on this one as it’s a long way to go to miss the end of the game and get home after 1 or pay for a hotel.

I think it's doable if you are down the stairs in the last few minutes and get out first, might have to jog a bit of it.

Why are there no trains back the day after the Arsenal game? Just haven't been released yet?

Seemed to be an extra train from Lime St to Euston put on yesterday at 20.02. Hoping they do something for Arsenal too.

Yeah, with the new system, if you can't book a seat (ie it's 'fully booked') you can't buy an off peak return online, but coaches G (I think), U and C aren't bookable, so always free, if you get an off peak ticket at the station you can still travel.

Quite a few empty seats as I walked through, I had a double seat to myself, which rarely used to get on match days

I'm paying more for standard class on Avanti this season than I did for first class last season.

First class on match days as of last week is just coach K so no Advance fares or SeatFrog upgrades.

Coaches G, H, J are Standard Premium at a £25 each way supplement, no food nor drink.

Come back Virgin.  All is forgiven.

Haven't they just taken over from Virgin? Not football related but fares to and from London from the NW have risen considerably, even with advance booking.

For example the Brighton game at the end of the month is £95 without a railcard

Yeah, £94.50, v expensive, but just worth knowing if you think train is 'fully booked' and you need to travel you still can.

Could anybody give me advice on the quickest route or way to get to Stansted Airport on Saturday after the Watford match? My flight is at 18:10, the earliest I can see on Trainline to arrive at Stansted is 17:00. Is there any way I could get there before that by maybe getting an Uber somewhere first of something?

You should be able to make the 14:59 from Watford Junction arriving Euston 15:22.  (You may even make the 14:46.)  Then the 15:52 from Tottenham Hale arriving Stansted 16:27.

The five stops on the Victoria Line from Euston to Tottenham Hale are easily doable in 30 minutes as the train travel time is about 12 minutes .  Allowing for a 5-minute wait and 5 minutes to get to/from platforms, should be fine.

Going from Watford High Street is slower, and I don't think road transport will beat this.

No, I’ve been waiting too. My guess is there won’t be any Advance tickets on trains that are of any use for getting to and from the game.

Out of interest is the free Wifi signal good enough on Avanti to feasibly connect up a laptop and work from the train (WFT)?

It’s terrible. Takes a couple of mins to download the BBC News page and sometimes not at all. I invariably end up using 4G.

Just looking on London Northwestern have the standard off peak return at £49.10 but are only releasing advance tickets for the weekend on rolling basis and only up to 31st of October, Avanti are ridiculous, I actually felt glad I gat a £60 return for the villa game!

65 quid return for villa. Ribbing bastards avanti want 132.20 return for Southampton. Not a single advance ticket to be seen 3 minutes after i got the e mail.
I have found flights from Stansted via Venice for 25 quid return out and back in the day! No wonder this country has no chance of meeting environmental targets.

You had a look at West Midlands Railway, they might have cheaper tickets than Avanti if your willing to spend longer traveling.

Not hugely cheaper, but you can buy a cheapday return (c£96) on the day at the station (or online for different times that day if the other the trains you want are 'sold out') and travel on any of the avanti trains, you just can't book a seat on the train you want online in advance if the seats are all booked. You can then sit in coach C (the shop) or E/U (depending on the service) as those carriages aren't reservable.
