Likely because the artists are making sod all from sales of their music, I suppose...!

This is definitely the case for small bands.

There is more and more demand for larger bands as the number of festivals keep on increasing but there aren't many people capable of headlining them. They are making more money so festivals/venues have to charge more.

The new Waxahatchee album, Saint Cloud is just wonderful

This is a great call. It really is a very good record. Thanks for the recommendation.

The Twilight Sad were supposed to be playing a homecoming double-header at Glasgow Barrowlands this week, which has been postponed until September for obvious reasons.

This morning, they uploaded a live album to Bandcamp for pay-what-you-can/want download - it's made up of recordings from 2019's It Won't Be Like This All the Time album tour.  They're a cracking live band, and this should be a great listen.

Hi Rob... it's here look... https://bulbils.bandcamp.com/

Is this the thing you were saying earlier about being a must hear?
Yeah.

Start to finish?
Yes definitely. It's a journey.

But that's like 13 hours long!

If someone is recording a whole album during this lockdown every day it's going to last a while since we've been lasting a while...

He's been recording an album every day?

Yes, with his wife or partner or fellow prisoner Sal I don't know. I want to be with them.

New Fiona Apple out today. I know Pitchfork is a bit of a laughing stock nowadays but they gave it 10 which is quite rare. Getting good reviews elsewhere. Listened to the first half this morning and seems decent on first listen.

I've listened to Fiona Apple's in it's entirety (twice), wonderfully disorientating sums it up. I don't like putting arbitrary numbers on things but it's a stunning, stunning album.

Ed O'Brien's album is out today, looking forward to it but I won't be listening to it after Fiona Apple, it just wouldn't be fair.

Quite like Darnielle's latest offering. A (coronavirus-enforced) return to his lo-fi recording roots. He's also giving all the proceeds to his bandmates and crew cos they'll be skint due to current circumstances, so fair play. Bastard's going to shame me into actually paying for music. Listened to the first song on that Fiona Apple album, thought it was amazing, then listened to a couple more and wasn't sure. Will have to give it a proper whirl soon. Most critics seem to think it's the best musical thing that there's ever been, an almost disturbing amount of acclaim. Vaguely remember her last one being fawned over too. She's like reviewer catnip or something.

Yeah, it's been a bit of a slow burner for me. Has taken a while but am well into this at the moment. Most of the best songs are towards the end - the last 3 tracks are amazing. There are some really great female songwriters around at present. After growing up mostly listening to shouty blokes I am mostly listening to women musicians these days.

Really loving Rina Sawayama's album. Loads of twists and turns, a melding of a few different genres and catchy as hell. If there's a better pop album this year, I'd be amazed.

The new Killers song Fire In Bone is one of their best ever.

Thought Caution was one of their best too, loving their new sound, they're taking their 80's influences and going all in, going to be a strong album on this form.

Super recommendation mate. Loving the vibe. It's like Dracula turned Dandy.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Thanks for the recommendation mate. Really quite like this.

Also enjoying the Arbouretum album, so thanks to whichever of yous it was that highlighted that one.

Oh, and nice one irc65. Your stuff sounds cool, and well done for donating proceeds to the foodbanks. And you'll probably hate me for saying this, but there definitely seems to be a bit of Happy Mondays in there, especially on Hackney Smack Deal. That's not a bad thing at all though, in my book.

Criminally underrated to be honest. The first, John Cale-produced album is way under the radar. Most people just know 'Kinky Afro' and 'Step On' but theres a bit more to them than that.

I think I mentioned the Arboretum album a while back. I have also been enjoying BC Camplight. He's clearly a massive fan of Brian Wilson, which is ok by me. He's a good lyricist too. Lots of pop culture references.

Thanks very much for listening to the Rec. We have raised about £130 so far. Obviously not quite in Captain Tom territory yet, but it will help a bit. Even in relatively affluent places like Oswestry, reliance on food banks has increased by a lot over the last few months.

I will have a listen to the first Happy Mondays album that Sam recommends in his post. If John Cale is involved, it should be worth listening to.

Definitely Brian Wilson, even more so in the previous album, and mostly on the one from 2015. This latest album has the best lyrics in my view, they're really dark and most of the time very witty and smart.

I will have a listen to the first Happy Mondays album that Sam recommends in his post. If John Cale is involved, it should be worth listening to.

I've heard very little of Happy Mondays, it was just a band that popped up when listening to yours. I also like the synth pad in the first song. Cool Gary Numan vibe (my nick is from his 1980 album).
