Absolutely gutted, for Virgil as much as for the team - hope the surgery goes smoothly and he's back as strong as ever in time for next season. Anything else is just a bonus.

No denying this will make our season massively tougher, but hopefully the lads will rally round in the face of adversity and Gomez and Matip will rise to the challenge of being our first choice pairing. Both have the quality - just need Matip to remain injury free until January, when an additional CB will surely be on the cards now? Really don't want Fabinho to have to regularly play there, not because he can't do it, but because of what we lose in the midfield.

That wanker  Cootes not sending Pickford off could have been a lot worse for us, because it didn't stop Pickford from wanting to break more of our players legs.
