You don't. You can pick any player from their history. Maybe it's not even a player they wanted, but only they will know that.

One question it does throw up - which I haven't a clue about - is what happens with players who are top appearance holders at other clubs? Like you could use your Barca pick to steal Romario even though he should belong to PSV? Can we all only steal players who are top appearance holders at these clubs? If not then the bottom 8 could actually fuck each other over as much as the top 8

To steal romario, you would be stealing from the Dutch consortium.

These consortiums cannot steal players that do not belong to the consortium.   Diego Maradona is a Napoli player by appearances but played for Barcelona.   He is not eligible for steals because he is not a Barca player even though he suited up for them.   Hope this helps.

Ronaldo is definitely the bigger vote winner on here, but in terms of depth Real are chock-a-block at striker. They can easily slot one of Puskas, Di Stefano, Raul, Hugo Sanchez, or even Benzema in there. C. Ronaldo is much harder to replace in a way.

Yeah, Zanetti is key to their side. Remove him and Pirlo and their midfield will fall. Stealing Facchetti also takes their best 70s option off the table and might cause them headaches elsewhere. Hope we'll see some tactical movements in these steals. If a team looks light in one decade then that's another way you can fuck them over.

Why shouldn't we be able to? Anyone who isn't on the exempt list and is a top appearance holder for the top seeded clubs (all three are) is on the table for the stealing clubs.
