We (Southenders) would be in the Pen&Wig, Croc or Triton but wouldn't venture to the Temple or the Yates in Moorfields as they were full of Northenders.
Yates in Moorfields was bleak back then.
I popped in there a couple of times around '73/'74 on the way home to Exchange but that was enough for me.
I gravitated to the pub on the corner opposite Exchange, forgotten what it was called (The Exchange? The Railway?), and found it a bit nicer for a final pint though it too was hardly salubrious.
Edit. Something has just come back to me about that pub though my memory could well be faulty, it's been many years since I went there.
From what I recall it was a bit rundown, it was old and Georgian I think, but the beer was ok, and I seem to remember the Gents bogs were outside at the back and you had to walk down a narrow dark and dingy alleyway to get to them.
