I'm going to miss this. Travelling to Scotland for my Grandfathers funeral on Friday. Saturday I'll be flying to Abu Dhabi on the first leg of my trip to Mumbai.

Hope I land in Abu Dhabi to a positive result. A draw wouldn't be a terrible result, though I think we can and will win.

Come on Redmen!!
Thanks for the OP E2K, was in Madrid over the weekend and really glad to be able to read. Our 7-0 at home against this lot is one of my favourite memories, with the Terry Mac goal as good as they get.
Back to the present, pleased to see the Brazilians are being rested.
Still think Bobby may be on bench. Winning this will be a massive statement.

We've won everything we could have won so far without even getting started...

We're gonna catch fire soon at some point and absolutely wallop someone, and I really don't see any reason this can't be Spurs who traditionally under their manager don't start the season at top speed.
1-3 to us!

Becker and Bobby on the bench, Fabinho not in the squad. I imagine they will either fly out tonight via private jet or early in the morning. Seeing as Bobby is not playing tonight, it wouldn't surprise me if Klopp played, but with PSG in mid-week, maybe he does the following

Becker

Trent
Gomez
Van Dijk
Robertson

Wijnaldum
Milner
Keita

Shaqiri
Mane

Salah

Greatest goal I've ever seen at Anfield.
A Tottenham corner headed out to Dalglsih. Played to Davey Johnson on the halfway line. He puts the ball over to the left wing. Heighway doesn't even break stride and puts a magnificent cross to the far post. Terry Mac raced virtually the length of the pitch and meets the cross with a thumping header.  Off topic but makes me glow inside when I think of it.

That's how I feel about it, big statement if we can get 3 points in this game and put us in a great position early on.

Quality as always E2K  :wellin

Which 3 should get the nod in midfield?

I think Milner,Keita & Hendo will start.
Tough on Gini but for this game i reckon thats the right combo vs Spurs bringing Gini on hopefully when we are up 65-70 mins to steady the ship with some ball retention.

Given the quality of the opposition, is there any way that Fabinho features in the manager’s thinking for the first time this season?

I'd be surprised for this one, there is a good chance he will start vs PSG for me.

Should Bobby get a rest given his exertions with Brazil and with PSG to come on Tuesday? If so, will Sturridge take his opportunity to impress?

If i'm right,Bobby returns friday?
Even with the limited preperation Bobby starts,no brainer.

Should anyone else be rested with PSG in mind? Or is it too early in the season to be giving players a breather?

Full strength vs Spurs & think about options for PSG after the game.
Always in my book the Prem takes priority.

........... ....Alisson...........
TAA...Gomez Virgil..Robbo.
...................Hendo...............
..........Milner.........Keita.......
Salah.............................Mane.
..................Bobby....................

Pissed coz i will defo be missing this game, will be on the plane en route to jollies, will be difficult to watch the PSG game too..25th wedding anniversary on the 18th so that night may be fun & games!  :D

Hopefully if he's fit by Saturday he gets left on the bench or just dropped entirely, possible after his conviction today.

Wasn't he doubtful for the game because of injury? Or recovering from an injury?

What is their midfield situation? Will they be full strength in there?

He had a thigh injury and was hoping to be back for Saturday, but I can see Vorm starting instead of him.

Interested to see what Klopp goes for in midfield.  The battle-hardened-Prem-battlers midfield at Leicester was a bit of a flop.

I'm assuming Keita comes back in and I can't see Milner not playing as he's not had any international football.  Wijnaldum to make up the three, I guess.  Spurs are one of the few sides who are considerably better in midfield than us, unless Dier plays.

Hopefully Pochettino sticks with Davies at left-back as he's the closest thing to a weak link for them.  I'd fancy Salah to find space down that side a good few times.

Not sure I agree with your comment that they are considerably better than us in midfield...Apart from Eriksen, who else is would you say stands out above our midfield. Dembele is a good player on his day, and Wanyama does a job, but i'd take our midfield over Spurs at present...However it's all about opinions I guess...

Dembele is excellent as well. Seen him dominate us, and others a fair few times. Him and Wanyama bring elite physicality to those central areas and can bully teams as a result. Dembele brings a very high level of ball carrying, protection too as well as being a bit more of a threat offensively. They just give an excellent platform for Eriksen, Alli, Kane, Son etc to go and attack.

Considerably better than us? I'd agree with you, I don't think so. We've improved with our signings and weren't *bad* anyway. Spurs have an excellent side front to back though, big test, one that could see us put a real marker down if we can get a win.

In a three-man midfield that's already two of the positions, Dembele and Eriksen, filled with Spurs players.  Arguably Alli would get in ahead of our midfielders as well, although he's had a sustained spell of below-standard form.

Incidentally, I'm not trying to belittle our midfield.  Once Keita and Fabinho bed in, and with Lallana and Oxlade-Chamberlain hopefully returning at somewhere near their pre-injury levels, I think we'll be up there with the best midfields anywhere.  Winjaldum is also emerging as very good #6 from the same beast mould as Dembele.

Me too. He's tailor made for a match like this. Play Henderson and Milner together against a dynamic midfield that Spurs have and we're looking at another slaughter much like last year.

I agree that it makes sense to start him on paper, but dropping Keita for Leicester indicates that Klopp might want to bed him into the slightly more difficult games. He's alluded to the fact that Keita is still very much learning how to play in this team.

It's all speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if he stuck with the three who know their roles inside out in a game like this.

How better to bed him in then just play him? He's looked class almost every time he's been out there for us. If you don't play him against Spurs, than do we want to bed him in against PSG which will arguably be more difficult? We lost the midfield battle against Leicester with Henderson and Milner in the middle. I dread to think what would happen against Spurs.

Agree with this. I am getting the feeling that at present it’s Gini, then any other two. Can’t see Milner being automatic choice with the volume of games coming up

Milner for me as he's been at Melwood all week..

I could see us lining up like this:

                       Allison

TAA        Gomez      VVD      Robertson

       Gini        Milner       Keita

    Salah         Firmino       Mane

Sturridge comes in for Firmino early in the second half..
Shaqiri comes in for Salah around the 80th minute..
Matip comes in for Keita in the 88th minute as we hold on for a tight 1-2 win..

hopefully the tea lady can back this up..  :P

I wouldn't be picking the same midfield as we did against Leicester. We won't get away with it this time if we do. I'd probably go for Keita, Gini and one of Milner or Hendo.

Keita, Fabinho, Gino for me. Doubt it’ll happen, though. Hopefully Milner over Henderson, our captain looks like he needs a rest.
