Uh oh, it really is real indeed. I have to admit I thought it would be 76ers. Let’s see which move will follow, Kawhi or Cousins.

I think this will make Spurs not trade him there even more. I think Cousins will end up going.

SAS and Lakers apparently currently having a conference call over Kawhi. If Kawhi joins Lebron that's a very very strong team straight up.

What interests me more is who out of the Lakers roster is gone - Lonzo doesn't fit well with Lebron but he doesn't really have that much value for a team like the Spurs.

There's talk Kawhi will sit the entire season if not traded: I think Pop is hard-arse enough to let it play out that way.

Downtown Toronto must be crazy right now.

Getting swept by the Celtics instead will make for a nice change, I can imagine.

And if Lebron shifts to LA, guaranteed Leonard will be shifting. I woukd have thought Cousins, but isn't he out injured until Jan?

If Leonard is truly claiming that he'd rather forfeit a season than play for the Spurs, I can't imagine them calling his bluff. Far too classy an organisation to gk down that route, and can't imagine Pop keeping a player jn his squad that absolutely loathes being there. Would be an horrific example to present to players potentially considering a shift to the Spurs. And as it is, the perception of the Spurs being a classy organisation ispart of the appeal of joining them, along with Pop. Why risk damaging that for one player?

Never thought Leonard and Lebron would team up, certainly not in LA.
Honestly,  I'm probably more excited about learning how the free agency period ends than the upcoming regular season. ;D

Forgive me, but what's happened to put Leonard and the Spurs at loggerheads to the extent where he's unwilling to even play ball games? Don't follow the West as much.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23366667/inside-tension-kawhi-leonard-spurs

TO UNDERSTAND HOW the Spurs and Leonard got to this uncomfortable place, you must first understand the quadriceps injury that kept him out all season. And if you can do that, well, you might be way ahead of the specialists who have treated Leonard throughout this process. In conversations with multiple sources close to Leonard and the Spurs, there is some disagreement about the exact nature of the injury.

Leonard's camp believes his condition is the result of a series of contusions to the quadriceps that began with one very deep bruise in March 2016 that caused him to miss three games. Leonard was again listed with a "quad contusion" on the Feb. 6, 2017, injury report, when he was a late scratch before a game. But it wasn't until the end of last season when the severity of the injury became apparent.

According to multiple sources, Leonard's camp has come to believe the issue has more to do with an ossification, or hardening, in the area where the muscle has been repeatedly bruised, and then an atrophy, which in turn affected the tendons connecting the muscle to the knee.

The Spurs have always called the injury quadriceps tendinopathy, which is a disease of the tendon that has a degenerative effect on the muscle by keeping it in a constant state of exhaustion.

The treatment course for each diagnosis (a muscle issue vs. a tendon issue) is different, which has become another source of tension in the relationship.

Update: if their next big signing after the terrific trio of KCP, Lance and Javale Shaqtin McGee are of the Boogie/Dwight variety, they won't be making the finals.

If Kawhi sits out the entire season doesn’t that impact how much he can get paid?  I’m not versed in the salary cap but I thought in order to get the super max a player had to be named in the NBA team of the year or the defensive team of the year.  Is that not correct?

There's a thread on realgm about this: I think the Spurs can get some type of redress if he goes that route. In other words apparently he can't just sit out the season and it will greatly negatively affect him in financial terms going forward, unless its a medical exception.

He got the fuck out of Eastern Conference. At last.  ;D

Also, this is probably just me, but the way he plays  makes me often forget he's 34 years old!

Firstly, the Pacers need to get past the Knicks. We're still here! ;D
Secondly, he's probably the best conditioned athlete in any sport, a step above Ronaldo.
Never been injured enough to miss more than 3 games or so. He's so dedicated off the court to maximise his capabilities on the court, that he's become a leading example for athletes within the NBA and elsewhere.

And this from a player that went straight from highschool to the Pros. People talk about his physique and his technical basketball skills, but it's his intelligence that puts him above almost anyone in the game. He's a genius, incredibly intelligent, but it comes in a visual package that for many makes them ignore that aspect of him.

If he's coming to LA, he's got something up his sleeve. And the fact that he's signed for so long, something he hasn't done for a decade, it makes me think his plan may not neccessarily be just for this upcoming season.
Lakers fans rejoice, you've become relevant. And as a neutral, it's good to see the Lakers become relevant again along with the Celtics.
As a Knicks fan, we can only hope that the snowball effect of Lebron's shift means we'll end up with a star on our end.
KP and the New York market, come on Stars, it's the last market left untapped. ;)

GOOD JOB JEANIE!!!

Just getting rid of her brother should have been enough for her to win GM of the year a few years back.
Just shows how leadership can make such a difference in success, or perception of success, for clubs and sporting franchises.

I wouldn't be too sure.
He's already used to carrying scrubs to NBA Finals, imagine if he's on a team with a Cousins or especially, Leonard, plus a few spot up shooters and whomever is left from the young talent on their current roster.

He's carried scrubs from the east to the NBA finals. He's not getting through Houston,Golden State,OKC,Denver,San Antonio,Utah,New Orleans with ease.
