Lost my uncle to Bowel cancer, it was tough for my gran and my aunt. My cousin is suffering from it for the second time and it's not fair at all. Shit of a disease and I hope we find a way one day to fuck it off altogether.

I've known a few people who had suffered it, one of my cousins had it not so long ago. Terrible disease indeed. My thoughts are with you Walshy7 and with all of you rawkites who are affected by it in any sort of way

This disease is pure evil, Walshy, I know. I really feel for you.

Yeah everone, cheers for asking, im ok, found out today though that my older sister has 6 months at best left.

She pretty much raised me

Gutted.

So sorry to hear that.

I lost my mother to cancer 12 years ago. She was only 55 when lung cancer took her from me, and every day I miss her.

Me girlfriends dad is on deaths door with Lung cancer, it all has happened so quick.

It could be a matter of days, weeks or months. He's not a well man though.

Me girlfriend was supposed to be going to Glastonbury and Take That this week, so sad.

She lost her mum when she was 17, so she could be an orphan by the age of 26.

Fucking horrible!!!

Funny I have come across this post (well not funny but you know what I mean)  I was talking to my dad this morning about a friend of mine with breast cancer.  She has had to have her breast removed, She really is a strong one though and has carried on working through out her treatment! Having to serve people in the offie cigs and booze. She stopped smoking as soon as she found out too! Fucking star she is bless her. If it was me i'm pretty sure I would want to hide away.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. Spend as much precious time with her :(

Walshy + El C I know what you are going through as we just heard two weeks ago that my Mum is suffering from stage three ovarian. She starts her chemo next week so the doctors have moved very quickly from finding it to starting to zap the bastard. Feels like being punched in the stomach and living in Australia isn't helping as she seems so far away. She is being positive though and I've told her that our banner now refers to her - "wine for my Mum we ride at dawn!" Keep your chins up and I'll try to do the same. If you ever want to talk, rant or need a shoulder please PM me.

Friend of my dad went for a check up in the doctors in February, woke up in hospital and was told he had cancer. He died on Sunday morning. Puts it all into perspective. Have to go to the funeral tomorow and its gonna be tough to see his family and friends trying to cope, especially having left being an 18 year old son. Its not fair.
He wasn't perfect, he made mistakes. But he was genuine. He had the best interests of the club at heart, and gave us a plethora of successful teams that we should have been thankful for.

Called my best friend today to wish him a merry christmas and he told me he has leukemia. It seems like it will be treatable, and I am praying he will be OK. He's going to see a specialist in the next few days.

I'm shocked right now, he's only 28. He was a great hockey player when we were growing up, big strong defenceman who wasn't afraid of a fight, I'm sure he'll win this one.

What a horrible desease this is.

Its awful mate, went through the same with my grandad. He was a big man so no matter how much morphine and drugs they gave him he just would not go to sleep. They would settle him down for a few minutes and then up he would get and sit in the corner of the room.  No matter how much we all moan when it comes down to it no-one wants to go.

If there is one positive it was that he did not have to suffer, relatively speaking. One thing about cancer that scares the shit out of me is the thought of beind told you have x number of weeks/months to live. Literally a death countdown, very very sad and it is something i think about a lot.

I lost my dad to cancer in his sinuses almost 5 years ago. His main arterie in the head burst while I was talking to him about taking over the family business and I basicly stood there watching him bleed to death without being able to do shit!  :'( Had me visiting the shrink for the better part of a year after that. He was 56. His mom only got to 59 and died from cancer in the brain that had spread from the bowel.

Has got me a bit paranoid that I might end up the same way before my kids are "old enough" (will they ever be that?) to be able to say goodbye to me... Fucking hate that disease!! :no

Called my Dad for Father's Day today.

"I have cancer, my son."

Five words you're never ready for.

I know exactly what you mean mate!

My dad rang me after I had been to a job interview and I thought how nice of him to show interest. After listening to my good news he handed me the bad news. I can still remember the exact spot where I pulled my car over, the time of the day and him crying for the first time! He lived 8½ months after that day... :( I hope your dad is doing good mate!

Walshy: I feel for you mate, I truely do. "Fortunately" my dad didn't go through the stages of cancer your sister is - he got called home before the pain and agony won. I hope for your sister, you and your family that her last days will be as painless and peaceful as possible.

MackemLad: I appreciate your words. I have found that talking about it and sharing it with people, even people I don't know, is good for me - it helps me getting over it. It's not that I have depressions over it, but from time to time the I miss him like fuck and then talking and sharing helps me. As for the paranoia I've had 3 different docs telling me that the forms of cancer my dad and grandmom died from are not biologically enherited and that I should not spend time thinking about... Easy for them to say.
