Oh to be Trent Alexander-Arnold.

21, with your whole life ahead of you. Playing for your boyhood club, not just any boyhood club mind, but Jurgen fucking Klopp’s mighty red machine. Working with the best coach in the world. A Premier League, European and World Club champion. Youngest player to appear in two Champions league finals. Able to play anywhere on the park. Recalibrating the expectations of a right back. And despite having all that going for you remain very humble.  All in all a very impressive young man.

I’m not in the slightest bit envious.

He's 21 and already a Liverpool legend.

Trent's potential is frightening, there is no limit to what he could achieve and win at Liverpool. Gerrard and Carragher were the heartbeat of Liverpool for so long in my lifetime, now it's Trent and, hopefully, youngsters like Curtis Jones and Neco Williams who will continue to take the club forward and build their own legacy. I knew he'd be a really good player when I used to watch him play for the academy sides, now he's the best right-back on the planet, a European Cup and Premier League winner and has so many years still ahead of him.

He is a generational talent and an exceptional human being. His and our dream has come true, in the years to come he will become one of the great icons of the club. The sky really is the limit for him.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

People thought I was nitpicking and didn't agree with me, and that's fine. We are all entitled to our opinions.

Thing is, I've absolutely no regrets about what I said. Still love and support Trent wholeheartedly, and I've been really impressed with all of his interviews of late, how poised and self-assured he looks … and not distracted by the bloody red phone. He's on his way to the captaincy, am sure of it. Really want him to look the part at all times. Am never gonna apologise for that.

CL runner up
League runner up with one point behind leaders

wouldn't want to include the runners up spots and medals but surely those must hurt and motivated him even more.

2nd in the assist table this season. 4 behind de bryune.

which probably means he going to lift the epl again and top assist next season ;D

or and probably the FIFA tournament cup when he beats jota.

Seen this picture. One club legend to the next one in waiting. Incredible future ahead of him and what a talent we have. Having read the Kay 30 years Athletic article, great point he makes where we've lost youth players (McManaman, Fowler, Owen and oh so nearly Gerrard) due to contractual issues. Can't let history repeat itself.

When was the last time we had a guy who could swing wicked cross in from the right? Gerrard for a while until he was moved to the centre to do more damage. Maybe Suarez but never so consistently across the whole season.

He is giving us so many options now it is unbelievable. There are faster and stronger players than TAA but had no idea what to do once they reach the final 3rd whilst he just whipped cross after cross that arrives at our players head of feet. It wasn't only the distance, he could control the trajectory of the ball as well. All that done under pressure.

Over our years in the premier league, I could only think of John Barnes who had that level of skill.

Don’t think Klopp would let him leave for a billion.

Where would he go anyway? The best way to make us impregnable to raids from other clubs is to make the team so successful and dominating that Liverpool FC is the top of the footballing summit and every move from it is a step down

It is not a bad comparison. Beckham could whip in wicked crosses and were damn good at striking a dead ball. Beckham in the middle is pretty wank compared to TAA.

Posted this in Hendo's thread; thought it's worth mentioning it here too. Moving forward for the remaining three games, I don't think it's a bad idea for Klopp to play Neco at RB and slot Trent into Hendo's position. As a playmaker with tons of energy Trent could open games up a bit more for us, and Neco does a good enough job at RB for us not to miss him down the flank. Future captain taking up the mantel of running the game and being the energetic thrust in place of our missing leader... Am not saying it would be a perfect replacement; might be worth a shot though.

That would imply that the penalty wasn't given because the referee didn't see the contact (as opposed to seeing the tiny 'touch' on the ball). Which is frightening.

People wanting to move Trent into midfield don't understand how we're set up to play football. Our midfielders are there to be solid, compact and cover for our fullbacks who are our main creative output. Trent is actually being playing in his perfect position where he gets more of the ball to do what he needs to do.

I wouldn't be surprised though if we make some changes in how we play. I am sure there are some changes that the coaching staff will want to put into play just to keep the opposition guessing.

Don't think we will see Trent in midfield any time soon but you never know how we will set up next season. Maybe Klopp will get bored and decides he wants to win another way to keep himself entertained.

Trent in a modified libero role? I don't see him moved to MF in the way we currently play for the reasons Welshred outlined. But he can be given a more "free" role covering more midfield ground if we set up that way against a low-block opposition. He's now a playmaker from the right side, that role can be extended to different ground areas.

And it'll still come up by LFC fans or pundits every while and so.

My understanding is a bit like when Pep tried putting Lahm in midfield: you can do it, sure, but you lose one of the best in the world at his original position. The space Trent gets as a RB/almost RWB is always gonna be way bigger than at midfield, and his whipped crosses would suffer from it. Beckham put in lots of crosses, but, if I remember correctly, at the very end of a very classic 4-4-2, which no one plays these days.

Neco seems quite good, but there's no reason why the two can't be rotated there. Real Madrid has won lots the past years having Carvajal as a main, with Nacho, academy graduate, covering when needed. Nacho, at least, doesn't need to be a full blown starter, and that's a thing with big teams that win lots of things (which is where we finally are, again): not every talent has to be a starter, as long as they understand they're playing consistently for big trophies.

Ditto. Would you move Marcelo or Dani Alves into midfield? No, they cause the opposition havoc from their fullback position while being surrounded by world class players to cover for them. TAA is a once in a generation player, fullbacks like him are rare.
