Well in  :D

I met this this fella randomly last week (on a course) that knew him (maybe worked for him I didn't get into it that much) when he was in Liverpool. As a scouser I wanted to know if he'd had a good experience in Liverpool - he was there for a year or so - and he did he loved it  :D - so I was made up like - but then he told me how hard it was for Lucas and how it really got to him how much the crowd didn't take to him - his words were something like - "they really hated him" - he was around 20 years of age - I quickly changed the subject - poor lad  :-[

Probably why he didn't have a public testimonial. He wouldn't be wrong in thinking that too.

Looking round their forums, it seems Lazio fans rate him higher than Almeyda, the hipsters' Serie A DM of choice from the late 90s-early 00s. The assessment is that he's as good defensively as Almeyda but far better technically, as a playmaker with a particular penchant for breaking lines with quick passes forward.

Never got why we didn't use him more for our set pieces. He always seemed like a decent header of the ball in my view. Got the timing right very often when competing for high balls in midfield... Might be a bit different for corners and the like but would still have been worth a try...

Wasn't he a box to box midfielder when we got him? I'm sure he could have got more goals for us if he ever had ever been given a license to attack. Never had much opportunity to get into the box with the role he played for us.

Made up to see him doing well.

No surprise he's doing so well in Italy. Many said he should have moved there after his injury when he obviously slowed down a little.

He suits that league to the ground. And I think if he moved there few years ago he would have got many more games with Brazil.

Good on him though, he’s made for Serie A I suspect he’ll be playing there for a good few seasons yet.

Should have made the move the season after his cruciate went if he had better career management. The Italian game isn't 'slow' or shit or any of those cliches, what transpires is it happens in phases, rather than being an out and out battle. Midfielders get more bodies around them in a number of teams as opposed to being put in a set-up where they have to show their individual qualities more. This is why you have to be wary when signing centre mids from there, pick players with the physical and technical qualities, together, to function in a variety of systems as opposed to Italian formation homebodies like Hamsik, Jorginho. Lucas, pre-injury, had the physical level to go with his technical level to function individually in a defensive midfield slot. Post injury, he should have been hightailing it to Italy to have the best career possible. It's great to see him do well now but those missed years being a squad player here aren't coming back.

There's less turnovers through long punts in Italy and I think that change in approach (not so much intensity, it's actually pretty quick) suits his ability to just get on with playing a tactical game. In all honesty he should have moved 3 or 4 years ago based on how he's playing this season under Inzaghi.

Fourth goal for Lazio last night. Lucas wins the ball just over the halfway, fucking races for the box and takes three defenders out the game with his pass for Ciro Immobile's goal.

How much did we get for him?  ;D

One of their players confirms it's an actual Lazio tactic to channel opposition passing through the middle where Lucas wins the ball.

After his playing career has ended, I would love to have Lucas back in some kind of backroom staff capacity. Teaching some youngsters how to be a DM or some such. I think Klopp wouldn't mind having Lucas back in as some kind of assistant.

Well done Lucas for having an awesome season for Lazio.
