Nice. Which chronos do you already have?

I have a Tissot 1853.
If I didn't have my glasses on I couldn't make out the time, the dial is so busy.
With the Longines, I can with no problem.

Within that price range you're probably best having a look at Seiko or Orient if you're looking for a brand with a wide range and heritage. Other than that it'll be a generic quartz (battery) watch which are all made in China one way or the other.

You could add Citizen and maybe Raymond Weil to that list.

Bit out of your price range (and not the colour specified) but i think this is pretty smart.  £230.  They do in sliver as well

I'm with you to be honest, although that particular Breitling is a bit "footballer" for my taste. Think classic. I like the look of the Panerais, but if I had four grand to spend and I didn't have a Navitimer 806, Speedmaster moon watch or a Submariner, I'd be splashing the cash in that direction. Datejusts and Air Kings fall into the same category - there will always be a market for them and they are never going to go in and out of fashion. I think that's important when spending a lot of money.

Just reading back some posts mate.

Out of the Rolex, Speedmaster and Breitling you have how would you rate them in order?

So difficult, as they all have such individual charm and I rotate them daily depending on what I am wearing. Very close-run thing, but if I was forced to sell them, the Speedmaster would be the last I would get rid of.

Just bought my son a Rolex Air King and had “love always, grandad” engraved on the back
For my daughter, she actually chose a Breitling 36mm colt with diamonds. Got it with a 30% discount. Again engraved but this time on the buckle.

Both I’m memory of their grandad and they can keep forever. I wanted them to have something of meaning after he passed away and is something they can hopefully pass onto their kids.

Love the look of the new Air King, simple and understated

Engraving is lovely but be aware that it heavily impacts on potential resale value. I know that the intention is not for them to ever be sold, but you never know when hard times might hit. I would buy a spare case back for the Rolex while they’re readily available.

I know, the clasp/buckle is easy and can be chang d for very little cost. Same as the case back, any auth dealer will do it for you. Worse case scenario, have Rolex change it on a service, no big deal.

Son made a great choice, he had the option of the Sub, but chose the new Air King. Daughter was going for the 36mm Date but then saw the bling. She probably made the wrong choice lol. However at 30% off and no sales tax, I was happy.

I haven't worn a watch since my early twenties and I was never really a watch type for some reason. But a while back I came across this in an add that popped up and it really caught my eye.

Not being in anyway knowledgeable about watches and definitely not a lover of these flash harry gordy looking things (sorry wearers of flash harry gordy looking things) I wondered if anyone had any opinions/observation/knowledge of it?

I keep coming back to this one - it's lovely!

I think David M Robinson also on South John Street are authorised dealers. Not that I own an Omega but I got my wife's engagement ring from there!

Any thoughts on how much would be a fair price for a 1969 Seamaster Cosmic?
Ref. is 166.026, and I'm pretty sure it's this exact watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8J0nz4lvxA

I bought it from those guys a few years back, but am no longer really wearing it having replaced with another daily wearer shown elsewhere in this lovely thread. Condition is as good as when I bought it, it had a full service this year (I have the receipt).

Trying to work out if there's value in selling it, or if I should just keep it under my bed for the future in case I'm tempted to wear it again, ;-)

Anywhere from £400 to £600 depending on condition and on how patient you are willing to be to get top dollar for it. A retailer may charge £800 for it, but you're unlikely to get that for it in a private sale.

Can anyone recommend a decent gunmetal/dark grey watch? Looking for a metal strap, budget is probably about £100 or so. I don't really know anything about brands etc. I've been looking for something on a black Friday deal but not seen anything.

I really like the shape of this (I like when the watch face runs smoothly into the strap) but I don't know about the quality etc.

Thanks for the tip, quite a few nice looking options there. I'd not considered a mesh strap before but it looks pretty smart so I bought this:

Which was about £40 cheaper on Amazon than the Black Friday deal price on Skagen's website.

So glad Ive stumbled on this page when I have. I guess I have a passion for watches having worn one everyday since the age of about 6 when I had a teenage mutant turtles flip watch. I'm currently sporting an omega seamaster planet ocean on an orange rubber strap. It was my first "luxury" watch which I got on a crippling finance agreement when I thought I needed to impress people in my mid 20s. I'm still in love with it and don't regret my purchase at all looking back, still wear it every day.

It's been a fair few years gone and my next purchase will be in January most likely. I'm torn between two options.

Option 1 is a tag heuer Monaco Le Mans 24. It was released in 2011-2012 ish as a "limited edition." I first saw this in Bicester village about 18 months ago and didn't take the plunge, this month I went back to collect it, only to find it had been scratched to shit by the thousands of people who had tried it on in the store since I saw it last. TH are sending an A1 example over from Switzerland as they claim to only have one piece left that is unworn.  I smell bullshit here because tag sales people seem to me like they'll say anything to sell a watch. I say limited edition in quotes because I believe there were about 1500 made in this colour combination, although there are no official numbers. Not sure if that makes it limited edition, rather just a discontinued model. It's still pretty awesome to look at although I'd imagine some experts will claim it's a lot to pay for the hardware, albeit in quite a pretty looking design.

I was in Zurich this weekend and tried on an IWC Portuguese chrono classic for the first time. The latest version has a navy blue face but the one I want is the slightly older black face model which is now also discontinued. It has an in-house iwc movement and a 42mm diameter which is good for me as I have quite thin wrists. The Portuguese is a classic looking watch and makes the Monaco look like a toy in comparison, both have a black Aligaitor strap. I get the impression (and may be mistaken) that IWC is a better brand for the purist but there's something about the square bezel of the Monaco 24 which makes me not want to pass on it again. The other thing is that the iwc is almost 50% more expensive than the tag, however a local Rolex specialist told me that the tag was way overpriced for what it is. But rolexes are ugly so who cares what he says.

There are some knowledgable people on here so I'd like to get some of your thoughts on which you would prefer of the two and why. It's a big decision for me and I'm often led by impulse so I would appreciate any advice.

Cheers
