What's Tarantino's Best Film?
« on: May 6, 2003, 04:04:37 pm »
Though he wrote ‘True Romance’, 'From Dusk Till Dawn' & ‘Natural Born Killers’ & others he's done some fine films.

He actually wrote 'Crimson Tide' but was uncredited for it.

So pick people.....

He edited a few bits of Crimson Tide...

Reservoir Dogs has not been surpassed although Pulp came close.

Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are the only two good things he's done. Both are great films, and hard to separate in terms of quality.

The rest is a mixture of crap and mediocre.

Dogs is good, but pulp fiction is better. Better dialogue, better characters, better direction, better soundtrack.

Where's From Dusk till Dawn? More a tarintino movie  than some listed.

Clifford: You're Sicilian, huh?
Coccotti: Yeah, Sicilian.
Clifford: You know, I read a lot. Especially about things that have to do with history. I find that shit fascinating. Here's a fact, I don't know if you know or not, Sicilians were spawned by niggers.
Coccotti: Come again?
Clifford: It's a fact. You see, Sicilians have black blood pumpin' through their hearts. If you don't believe me, you can look it up. Hundreds and hundreds of years ago, you see, the Moors conquered Sicily. And Moors are niggers.
Coccotti: Yes...
Clifford: So you see, way back then, uh, Sicilians were like, uh, wops from Northern Italy. Ah, they all had blonde hair and blue eyes, but, uh, well, then the Moors moved in there, and uh, well, they changed the whole country. They did so much fuckin' with Sicilian women, huh? That they changed the whole bloodline forever. That's why blonde hair and blue eyes became black hair and dark skin. You know, it's absolutely amazing to me to think that to this day, hundreds of years later, that, uh, that Sicilians still carry that nigger gene. Now this...
[Coccotti laughs]
Clifford: No, I'm, no, I'm quoting... history. It's written. It's a fact, it's written.
Coccotti: [laughing] I love this guy.
Clifford: Your ancestors are niggers. Uh-huh. Hey. Yeah. And, and your great-great-great-great grandmother fucked a nigger, ho, ho, yeah, and she had a half-nigger kid... now, if that's a fact, tell me, am I lying? 'Cause you, you're part eggplant.

Couldn't agree more Emo and even then there's parts of Pulp Fiction i am unsure of (mainly the Bruce Willis segment). For me he has still yet to surpass his lean, perfectly formed debut and Jackie Brown gets worse every time i see it. Ain't seen Kill Bill 2 due in large part to the overwhelming shitness of Volume 1. Natural Born Killers might well be one of the worst movies i've ever had the misfortune of watching although that's not QT's fault, the blame lies firmly on the shoulders of Oliver Stone whose direction has all the subtlety and nuance one would expect from an 8 year old boy.

If True Romance and Natural Born Killers can be voted for, surely you should be able to vote for From Dusk Till Dawn ?

And if you can vote for ER you can vote for that 2 part CSI episode ?

What about him being a judge on American Idol ? Does that count ?

Anyway, ignoring the above flaws I vote for Reservoir Dogs - brilliant film.

True Romance is very good too

I really like Pulp Fiction too but there are some bits of it I'm not sure about.

I agree with some others on here, Jackie Brown is underrated but was too long and too self indulgent. Again, I think the Kill Bill films slipped into self indulgence. That could have easily been one film and there was far to much flab on them (especially the 2nd film).

From Dusk To Dawn was entertaining enough. I really disliked Natural Born Killers
