I love Nathaniel Clyne, he is the only member of the defense I am completely convinced by.

But good lord is he not a wing-back, All our width is coming from the left and our play becomes extremely lopsided.

I really like Clyne, I can't say I was made up when we signed him, seeing as fullback isn't much of a glamour position but he's been very very good.

I think he showed signs of adapting to the wing-back role today as well, he may well be more comfortable in a four but we'll see what we end up with, and whether he's best in a 4 or 3 he gives it his all and is technically pretty solid which is what you want.

I know I'd prefer him at RB but I know he'll do his best as a RWB while we play this system. As long as someone makes runs in to that right hand channel, I'm not overly fussed. When Moreno charges forward, it's nice we can shuffle across and make a back 4 if we need to.

Keep it simple, make the right runs and passes and he'll do fine there.

Don't get to see a lot of other teams play, don't have Sky, always seem to miss MOTD (never know who anyone's on about in the transfer forum!) but it's no bad thing because occasionally you get to see a great player for the first time in the flesh, and it comes as a real eye opener.  Clyne's one of those players you sit bolt upright and think, 'fuck me who's this?' the first time you see them play. For the saints against us in his case of course, that day he was flying down the right wing like a rocket. Hopefully going to be a great signing for us; settling in well :)

Crossed my mind as well it might be worth switching Can and Clyne and seeing what that looked like at times, if Can could somehow be effective up there we know Clyne can defend better.

I'd like to see him there too. Milner instead of Can at wingback though.

He's superb. Absolutely superb. Not the best on the ball, but he makes up for it with his speed and strength, and his willingness to use them both.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

I think everyone was expecting him to be as he is, solid. He's not too great offensively, but at least we have a defender who can, well, defend.

Nice change.
Pretty happy with Arse taking it.

Disappointing.

I'm a convert, he's a proper player. As others have said, while watching the game today I wondered if perhaps there's a future for him in the back 3. I'd definitely be interested to see it given a go.

Only time will tell but he could be up there as a Sturridge or Coutinho level signing if he continues to play well. He has time to develop as well as he's still young

Thought he would be good and he's been even better than that.

Hasn't had a bad game yet IMO.  Even when everyone else looks terrible he's still playing well.

Very few players are as good going forward as they are defensively, those that are would be out of our reach.  Ideally his attacking play would improve with time and good coaching.
