Deal must be worth a few quid or possibly some kind of stadium funding. That Qatari telephone company story amounted to nothing then.

Tv money and this cash should mean Brendan's words from yesterday can be fully backed up.

I doubt its money that stopping us from making the kind of signings we would like to see, more likely the lack of CL and finishing 7th.

Monaco have bought quality and they're out of Europe and playing infront of about 3000 fans. Granted they have a new owner with big visions but I'd like to think we'd be able to compete with them for a player. Stumbling block being wages as they'll throw silly money around however I still think we can attract quality.

Taxes in Monaco are ridiculously low and as most a lot of players make decisions with their wallets, I can't see who'd prefer Liverpool over Monaco - at least not while the two clubs are both out of Europe. Once we get back into the CL things might look different.

True that. On a footballing level the premier league is a much bigger draw though so there are pros and cons to both.

Big difference is Monaco will not stop spending until they get to the Champions League, and you can pretty safely bet they will be there within the next 3 years if not less - I wouldnt be so confident with us, nor would any player looking to sign for us. Sad but true.

Have family who work for Standard Chartered. Apart from the slight negative press regarding money laundering he said that the deal an easy negotiation and has been win-win for both sides so far. Standard Chartered have done really well from the deal and increased their exposure in the far east. They want that to continue

He's probably the only Liverpool fan in their London offices and when the deal was first announced Kenny Dalglish went down there to do a Q&A with the staff.

The deal also includes a number of Reds-Bar executive tickets (think its between 20-50 per match) that staff there can apply for and an executive box used to wine and dine the higher ups.

No way. The wages they can pay are so much more than ours a player wouldn't even give us a second thought. Insane wages are the only way to attract the quality you're talking about and no realistic sponsorship deal is going to give us the financial power to go toe to toe with the likes of Monaco.

Compete with a multi billionaire owner who is willing to fund silly wages (and fees) in an economy where players re taxed extremely little?

This suggests that all players moves are linked to their own desire for more money. Call me old fashioned but I'd like to think that someone somewhere chooses their club for other reasons. Easy for me to say as a fan who'd play for nothing but I think we're still an attractive proposition.

As an SCB employee I am loving this, more tickets for me and hopefully getting Director's Box for the Man UTD game woooop!

End of the day though SCB pay LFC a lot of dough, hopefully that helps us compete.

Quite a few of them in Russia too but they've not really bought a great deal of quality. Eto yes, that's about it, couple of others.  If it was only about money then they'd all be queuing up for massive pay packets out there.

I'm sure the thinking is if we break the top four in the next two seasons, then we can demand an even bigger deal.

Yeah I think a short term works better for us in the current situation. If we get top 4 then we'd be in a position to renew for a better deal next season/year after.

Yes but Russia is not somewhere players want to go.

Monaco is an amazing place, is in the French league and will have CL football before long and a squad of top class players on silly wages.

Not sure how we are meant to compete with that.

We are an attractive propsition, but there are 10-15 clubs that are probably more attractive of the top of my head due to either money or likelyhood of success/winning titles.

Agree the location is great, however the quality of the league is relatively poor. As I say I'm biased as a Liverpool fan, but I think we've got other selling points aside from wages.

Indeed we definitely do, but Monaco is a massive massive draw and can afford top class fees and wages that we cannot. And will be offering almost guaranteed CL football from end of next season no doubt which again we cannot.

True but again with my biased hat on, playing united, city, arsenal, Chelsea, spurs twice a season anyway is an attractive draw without the fancy theme tune and foreign refs. As football becomes even more global, there are possibly only three or four clubs who can match our fan base. Look at the ticket sales in Indonesia and Australia. Chelsea have been rich for nearly ten years and they still fail to attract  quarter of the numbers we do on tour. Granted its growing but LFC is a monster coming back to the surface after some time away, it's just a case of convincing players in the short term(which as you've pointed out is easier said than done).

we do work particularly well with SC though - as there are very few clubs  globally that can match our popularity in Asia - which then ties in very well with SC and the amount of business that they do in the region (historically they were involved in the development of major trade routes with the East, following the opening of the Suez Canal) ... and the vast majority of their profits come from overseas business, and a large part of that is from Asia...
