If the passport issue is cleared up, I'm thinking he'll be an important part of the squad selection this upcoming season.  If we're going to sell of the bulk of our marginal squad players to fund the purchase of a few quality players (Barry, Villa??) then guys like Leto need to step up.

Look at it this way, can Leto offer us any less than we got from Riise, Kewell, Pennant this past sesaon?

Any more info on his work permit/passport issues? I notice that talk of him being loaned to a Spanish club has died down significantly.

I spotted him in Tesco last Saturday evening!

(I can now list him with such luminaries as Salif Diao and 'D 10 UFY'. Still, I remember the days when Redknapp and McManaman did their shopping there together.)

Glad that he is in pre-season. If his final ball improves, he could save us from having to spend a lot of money on a creative player out wide.

A lad I know, i can't say anymore than that, but cast iron.
Leto's problems regard the legitamacy of his grandfathers Italian heritage.
The old bastard ;)

Hope Leto comes good; have heard some good things about him so he could be like a new signing when he's finally allowed to play

Glad to see this guy back in training with us.  I do hope he gets to feature more this year and gets a fair shake before being packed off.

Lolzies. More chance of a wank off the pope than beating United, I'm afraid. It is beyond Benitez, apart from when they were at their lowest ebb, when we knocked them out of the FA Cup. They certainly aren't anywhere near there now.

I don't know if his passport issues are resolved yet, but if they are, I hope he gets a chance to impress in the pre-season ... He is a talented player and can do a very good job as a back-up left winger next season ...

Anyone got the low-down on this?  Although I'm sure he's rusty after not playing a competitive match for more than half the year, what a nightmare for a professional player.

the club should put on a reality show on LFC TV about finding Leto a local bird that will marry him so he can become a citizen. Although I do remember something about him bringing his girlfriend over from Argentina. That could certainly spice things up, and I know I would watch.

A mate of mine was telling me about some mad bit of skill that Leto did in one game last season, but like a Maradona spin and go?
Anyone got a link?Didn't find a link but that move was phenomenal. I really hope Leto gets his passport things sorted as he seems to have a bit of flair in him.

And you've seen him play how often?
Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns
"Come in", She said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I might be in!

Anyone got a link for that phenomenal back heel pass he made. Don't know who it was against but quite close to box, a bit left from penalty spot, freeing somebody to have a clear chance. Don't even remember was the chance converted. God, how good description is that?

EDIT:
Googled a bit. It was against Rovers. Description in the official site:
Then came one of the moments of the match when Leto – the aforementioned free-kick clearly forgotten – produced an unbelievable piece of skill. His ball through to Plessis was half back-heel, half Maradona spin. Class.

If he's got his passport sorted out, he may be used on the bench to sub for Babel on the left.  I'd be hell of a lot happier seeing him come on than Voro.   :-X

Can't see Leto in Babel's place after his layoff.  Maybe subbing for Yossi/Voro to get his game fitness up.

Agree.
Thats a first no one likes Leto ;D

Leto reminds me a little of Riera and new Newcastle signing Jonas Gutierrez. He is tall so he is lanky and runs weird but I think thats what can make him a success instead of midgets like Gonzalez.

Hopefully he will play in pre season and start a few games while Ryan is away.

Always thought he never got a fair shake last season, he had a bit of skill that just needed nurturing.  Would have featured more towards the end of last season just like Plessis and Insua if it wasn't for the passport issues.

leto had another bit of skill that lead to the reserve goal against United by Spearing.

And in that Crewe clip, Xabi seemed to take to playing centre half because he had all the time on the ball that he wanted in that game.

There's a worrying story on the bbc today:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7503877.stm

I very much hope that Leto isn't involved with this (there's no suggestion from the story that he is, it just says that Argentinian footballers are among those being investigated).  Just thought it was worth posting because of the similarities with what we've heard about his passport situation.
