Suprised to see people excited about this based on the hate of IV in every other thread where it's mentioned.

I wouldn't say the last one was 'shite' but it certainly didn't have the humour or real world excitement feeling that Vice City and San Andreas had.

San Andraes especially was an absolute masterclass of a game. It started off with the main character and you thinking WTF - to understanding his world and how he wanted to get away from it.

Yes he and the characters from Vice City got up to all sorts of dodgy stuff - but both had pressures on them and both seemingly wanted to get away from it. They had goals and the people they were involved in things were as bad if not worse than them.

In GTA IV - you had the fella doing over the top things cynically at every avenue and then (When he's walking around with $50,000 in his pocket and a range of houses and cars) he's taking jobs on saying "Sure.. I need the money"

You can argue there were morality traits in CJ and Tommy and that they had a sense of humour and did the 'right thing' on occasion, but Niko had no such redeeming qualitites. Yes they were all nutters and got up to all sorts but it was much darker, more cynical and far less fun in IV.

You felt oddly unsettled by many of the plotlines and outcomes.

I think it was mainly the humour that was badly missing and the humour there was just evil.

I love Rockstar Games but absolutely loathed San Andreas - couldn't stand it. If we're going back there I'll be massive disappoint.

Really? I got really into it. And then when it moved out and away from the City and then moved out and then moved out again.

Did you completely finish it legally?

San Andreas was brilliant, one of my all time favourite games. I don't know how you could've be dissapointed with it if you're a GTA fan.

The graphics were a bit dodgy even when it was new and some of the missions and game mechanics were really frustrating. I just couldn't get into the game, everyone I know loves it though. GTA III is the best imo.

Me neither. I absolutely hated it for about the first 10 hours. Then I understood his world. When he ended up in the sticks, then in San Francisco and finally in Vegas was fantastic. The scope was amazing. Not to mention the whole changing tone of the game and the ultimate showdown.

Incredible game.

Loved Vice City - but San Andraus was literally a whole new world.

THe graphics in GTA:VC and GTA:SA were miles better than GTA: III

I was playing GTA: III the other day and the lack of textures, resolution and other effects were noticeable. As was the clunky gameplay and near total lack of humour.

GET THE FUCK IN!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna cream my jeans when that trailer comes out. OMG OMG OMG OMG.

Yes, I'm a total Rockstar fanboy. I fucking love these geniuses!

GTA IV is the reason I have an Xbox 360. GTA Vice City was the reason I had a PS2. GTA was the reason I had a PS1. I cannot wait for this game.

Vice City was better than San Andreas as a story. But San Andreas was an absolute genius game in its own right.

From the design of the V alone I'd guess this is gonna be all about the money. They've gotten rid of the "Rags to slightly better rags" that we had with Niko and are going for the "rags to super riches" story, complete with gadgets and all different kinds of stuff to buy. I think this is going to be the San Andreas for this generation.

Bought it on day one and completed it twice since then.

Something about it I just couldn't get into it. The atmosphere gave me headaches - the orange skies, the gangsta theme (although that subsides but still annoying). Driving didn't feel fun. The only redeeming qualities of it was the customization and RPG elements of it which I thought was cool

VC and III were definitely the best in the series. IV was definitely lacking but still a great game. Hope V can improve what IV did massively.

I liked S.A. but I prefered GTAIV. I thought SA started really well but got pretty annoying later on... The missions with the aeroplane really fucked me off. After a while doing the las vegas missions i sacked it off - it's the only full gta game i haven't completed (including 1 & 2. havent played all the add ons though).

Really looking forward to 5 though. Would love to see it in a different city, for a change.

Can't wait. I'm not as hardcore a gamer as I used to be when I was younger and GTA is one of the few game series that I still get really excited about. Hopefully they hugely build on GTA IV and add lots of new features and lots more secrets and exploration, just like they did with Vice City after GTA III, and then San Andreas. GTA IV was really limited with what you could do, and just didn't feel the same. There needs to be more variation. Bring back the tank! and the jetpack!  :D

And I should also add to this the constant "your turf is being attacked" in Grove St. when you're all the way in the other corner of the map every 10 minutes. Fuck off  :(

I thought you'd finished the game?

All you had to do to stop that was complete the Tenpenny mission after the train and it was done. You didn't have to respond once if you didn't want to.

Really? Never noticed. Tbf I'm quite certain I didn't touch the game again after I finished it although that was years ago. Maybe I should give it another go.

Anyway - hope GTA V is located somewhere new that we haven't seen yet. Can't wait for the trailer now  :wave

By the way, is there any other game franchise that can cause this much commotion by putting the title of the next game on the website in such an understated manner? No big press conference, no first day trailer, no announcement at a games convention. Just a simple splash page on their website. Fucking brilliant.

What's with everyone hoping it's somewhere new? Of course it will be. How much did Liberty City resemble the city of III? A more realistic rendition of LA or SF or LV or all three, would be fooking phenomenal in my opinion and would be new as well.

Someone elsewhere suggested that they would do a SA this game and save a new Vice City for last as it's generally regarded as the favourite of a lot of fans. That kinda makes sense.

I don't mean in your opinion. I mean that have actually done it. Like COD is out every year. Everyone knows it's coming. This has come out of the blue and the whole internet is abuzz with it. COD is just passée these days and it has a direct competitor in Battlefield that is building its own fanbase at COD's expense. GTA blows everything away, just with a splash page.

I hope they give us something to spend our money on, having tonnes of money by the end of the game and nothing to do with it makes it very pointless when they talk about money during the game a lot.

GTAIV is a great base. They made the game very realistic and a big step up from SA so putting that realism to a new SA and adding more fun should be perfect.

Was at university in the early 2000's causing my own brand of chaos ;)

Did actually play GTA3 a bit back then as my housemate had a PS2 but that was more seeing how long I could last before the cops took me down rather then playing the game properly.

I doubt the older ones are on the PSN, its a bit shit compared to the xbox live sadly.

That was the great thing about Vice City - you could buy apartments and buildings and businesses.

They should also make a lot more of the buildings and all the shops visitable - there were tons of shops in San Andreas.
