Evertons right back sends a ball through the goal area and the left back on the far post scores.

Always disjointed when the teams thrown together from whoever's available but that's the nature of the u23s.

We're getting better though.

It sure is. Logically, by his definition there can only be one world-class goalkeeper at any given time.  ;)

Just saw this - you can have 20+ players on a squad, you know ;D

But my definition is simple - a world class player (or manager, or anything) is one who every single team would like on their books as a starting player. So, Emre Can isn't world class, for example, because there are a lot of teams who wouldn't have any use for his limitations. Lionel Messi, peak Suarez, both Ronaldos, Figo, Xabi Alonso, DeGea, Becker, Wambach, Ancelotti, Guardiola, etc. - these are all players and managers who every single team would look at and go "yeah we would love to have them here"

That's my definition of "World Class" :)

There's talk of Adam Lewis stepping up to be Robbo's deputy next season.
Can't say he looks up to it on tonight's showing, sad to say.

Yard dog behaviour begins at nursery age for the bitters so expecting fair play/tackles from them is delusion at its finest.

And that's one hell of a save!!  And another one.  Wtf ya doing lads!!!!

They always were a dirty side some of those junior derbies would have shocking tackles in them. Isn't this a new formation for the lads, also a very young side from what I can make out. It also has to be stressed this Everton side stay together all the time, so they're a settled side. Looks like McCauley is coming on.

Yeah they've never been any different, certainly for the 10yrs or so that I've been watching academy football.

The team's a mish mash really, players   who've not been involved for a while and it's just not clicked.

2-0 Everton, they deserve it, created the best chances. I don't think their keeper has had to make a save.

They play together on a regular basis which is why they are top of the league. Shame some of them haven't done better with Klopp being there.

Not sure if this was posted, but a very good interview with Inglethorpe, that repeats and confirms some things I've been saying in here. Interesting bit about Michael Owen, Klopp being a mad bastard on and off the camera, the youth ranks being almost a meat market, and the value of having a manager who believes in youth:

Thanks Pop, that's a really interesting account.

I found this bit near the end particularly interesting:

"Both those things [support by management and by owners] have helped to create an academy that is built on stronger foundations. One that I think will be more self-sufficient in the years to come. We’re getting better at what we do with the younger ages, which means the need to recruit at the age of 15, 16, 17 is going to decrease. "

Does that mean he thinks we're getting better at spotting players when they're younger, and bringing them to Liverpool, or that we're better at training the players from younger ages, so there's no need to bring in other players at 15 or so?

Probably a bit of both, but as it's a coaching website, I'd say he's probably talking more about training.

Really good preview for tonights youth cup game

https://burymeinexile.com/2019/03/05/bury-u18s-vs-liverpool-u18s-preview/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

Also seems to suggest Bright Amoateng is only on trial there and could be back next season.

Also seems to suggest Bright Amoateng is only on trial there and could be back next season.

But isn’t it the case that when they’re on trial at that age group it’s because either because they’ve been told that that they’re either being released or that their game time in the first year of U18s is likely to be limited because of others ahead of them?  Or possibly because they want to move somewhere nearer to home.   The first possibility would be a little strange I think because Glatzeland Duncan will move up to U21s next season, leaving only Fidel and Bearne.  Presumably we’re not overloaded with great strikers in the current U16s or we might have heard a bit about them by now?

Incidentally, I think it is poor that the match is not on lfc tv or tvgo.
