Can't wait for this. Think the fact both teams have only had 1 session to prepare may benefit us, as we are set on our formation but they are chopping and changing a fair bit still.

Always better to play a top side after the internationals or Europe. It levels the playing field in regard to travelling. The only difference in the past is that those clubs have tended to have deeper squads. Their Brazilian and Argentine contingent would have travelled with our boys. So only Firminio affected versus Jesus, Fernando, Edison and Aguero.
Rather play ball playing teams than the physical sides who have had a week to rest and plan our demise.

I can't wait for our front 3 of Mane, Salah & Firmino to be unleashed Man City. I'm just expecting carnage.  In some ways i'd like to see AOC starting, but he'll be hard pressed knocking off Henderson, Georgie & Emre for a starting place.

I can see a high scoring game for this, and for us, it's our first time of playing and having a massive game in midweek, so getting a nice early lead will be perfect.

He came off the bench during his two games for Brazil which could be an indication that he's not fully fit. Klopp could be saving him for the game midweek and believes he doesn't need to tamper with our attacking line up after the performance against arsenal.

I think there are several factors. Salah or Coutinho = Salah; Wijnaldum v Coutinho( a game where our midfielder needs to work) = Wijnaldum. So clearly he doesn't start. If we are chasing a game, we have Sturridge, Solanke or AOC to bring on. Assuming Milner is on the bench, he will be the first to come on in midfield (unless he starts and his replacement will then come on).
So no place for Coutinho at this stage. Will probably have private sessions on Saturday and Sunday to catch up on his fitness and sharpness.

Going the game tomorrow and determined to enjoy it whatever the result. W-L-D a few beers and enjoy the match is my motto tomorrow.

Make no mistake, like us, City are a bloody good team and the result may not go as we'd want it.

But Away at Man City will NOT define our season.

All that said, on our day we can give these lot a hiding. Especially with no Kompany makes them extremely vulnerable. :)

I have a gut feeling that it'll be a Coutinho winner again. Just a gut feeling mind you that could very well turn out to be indigestion.

Just indigestion then. ;D

Im thinking he wasnt fully fit because he wasnt playing and training for us when he should have been. Anyway once hes come back into the team in the next few weeks this will all be forgotten (until Jan :) )

No Kompany or Sterling so Sane will play.

I can't see Pep pushing on because he knows we'll pick them off easily.

Mendy and Walker will have their hands full with Mane and Salah so I just so don't see any side taking risks.

Thought we were unlucky there last season and we should have won it.

Still feel it will be 0 - 0 but if we get our noses in front we'll win it.

Just read that Kompany sustained the injury in a 9-0 win over Gibraltar...

You'd be fuming if you were Guardiola or a City fan.

Just ended a run of 11 consecutive appearances - his longest in 3 years.

No idea why he is still playing international football if he wants to be first choice for a side challenging for major honours.

He wants to go to the world cup. But yes, playing vs Gibraltar - that's just ridiculous. You'd think that Martinez knows enough about Kompany to know he doesn't need to see him play vs Gibraltar. Or that his team can beat them without him, and hadn't they already qualified for the WC by then anyway.  Guardiola should be fuming about it,  it's kinda irresponsible really.

Surely the temptation of the World Cup is enticing. Belguim could easily reach the last 16/8 at least. He has already won plenty with City anyways.

Anyway hoping Mangala plays could be a car crash, Aly Cissoko has a better 1st touch.

Very interesting presser by Klopp.
Coutinho not in the squad. Reasonable explanation of that decision. 7 games coming up.
But highlight for me was the talk about Ox.
Said he can play 4 positions. Both wide men and both 8s. So he does see him as a CM. Also shows that Klopp sees a three men midfield of 2x8 and one 10 rather than 6, 8, 10.
Explains why he will never buy a defensive midfielder.

We play a 6 and two 8s, one of which has more responsibility to play in half spaces and link to the forwards, the other is box to box.
It's hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them.

I'd be surprised if he had Woodburn on then bench, my guess it would be along the lines of;
Karius
Gomez/TAA
Klaven
Milner
Chamberlain
Sturridge
Solanke

That's my opinion as well. I would think we start Moreno there. Has put in a good shift so far and deserves a continued start. Also knows the fixture and has more experience in general. We can sub him for Robertson later on, cause we need him for midweek.
