Most open play assists this calendar year in the entire league. Not bad for a player who doesn't contribute anything.  :thumbsup

But I liked that he wasn't a darling of the stats guys but loved by Klopp... :)

That stat does have a limited time frame of 8 months. But...importantly that doesn't include the first half of last season when we had Mane and were offensively sensational. And it does include the 2nd half when we were struggling offensively at times starting in January.

Watching this video of Gini vs Man City from last season's away fixture, I couldn't help thinking how difficult our midfield will be to play against next season with Gini and Naby in it.

Offered literally nothing. Not saying Can was any better, but even in our good 20 minutes at the start, Wijnaldum was probably our worst player. He's a joke. Doesn't create, link play, retain possession, press well, track runners, provide physicality, sweet f all.

Not bothered with how anybody played after the red card, but Gini was pitiful before that too. Milner has a great case to start ahead of him, and I hate Milner playing in midfield.

Absolutely no point in playing him in away matches or matches in which teams defend deep with a lot of men behind the ball. Hopefully Ox takes his place sooner rather than later.

Nah, 19 matches a season he's 2/10.

His 'away days' thing is a weird thing to see in modern footy.
Pretty happy with Arse taking it.

Disappointing.

He'll lose his spot in the starting XI as soon as Coutinho is fit. He's a decent enough player at home in certain circumstances but then he seems to almost try to play the game a too quick a tempo. He's got the physicality to slow the play down if he needs to and use his muscle to hold off the opponent but rarely does so. Yet, whenever he does, he looks so much better. Useful player to have in the squad but I don't see him starting many games once Coutinho is fully fit.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Yeah, scrolling through here, he's had a bit of stick, but it looks like he's walked through that storm.
"All the lads have been talking about is walking out in front of the Kop, with 40,000 singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'," Collins told BBC Radio Solent. "All the money in the world couldn't buy that feeling," he added.

Robbo was clearly the MOTM but Gini was outstanding.

I only wish he was more decisive in the final third. Got through on goal against Everton too and hesitated, same today against Stones.

Retention and usage of the ball was magnificent. Defensively, I think either of him and Mane have to be doing something about de Bruyne for their second, but in general he was very good.

The other days probally are against a low block set up i think, creativity isnt as natural as others but in the big games with high tempo he is in his element.

Possibly his best game for the club.

I just wish he played like this more often.  I really like and rate him, and think he's a very useful player to have in midfield, he proves that when he puts in performances like this one.  I don't know whether it's a confidence thing with Wijnaldum but he's got the quality and stamina to control a midfield, like he did today, on a more consistent basis than he does.

He was phenomenal today in any case, pressed like a demon and seemed to pop up all over the pitch.

Probably his best game of the season. These are the only games he seems to excel in, however. Needs to show this desire regardless of the opposition/stadium.
