I live in America and did not get coverage of the Reds until 1998 but actually started supporting them in 1994.  Mainly as a result of the Beatles and footie games on video game systems.

Kind of a wierd path but here it goes:
Liked the WWF in the 80's (was about 8 at the time) and loved the British Bulldogs.  I liked the Union Jack flag and therefore ended picking Great Britian on most computer games (Like Olympic Games on the Commodore 64)

Got really into football during the 94 World Cup also got into the Beatles at that time.  Started playing footie games on my Sega system and ended up picking England cause I liked most things from there.

My brother and I then found out that football extended beyond countries and learned about the club and league structure.  Gravitated towards the English clubs cause of everything above.  He ended up picking Arsenal and I picked Liverpool due to the Beatles connection.

Pretty weird but I kind of feel that its was destiny of some sort.

My dad moved from India back end of the 70's early 80's, and finished his degree in Liverpool. He was already obviously aware of Liverpool before that, but those couple of years in the city turned him into a red. When I was born, there was no choice in it, same way any lad I have will have no choice!

Just happened to catch them on TV tearing apart Man City.

Craig Johnson was awesome that game.

The rest as they say is history.
What I love about this, and several other of Kenny's press conferences, is that he manages to say something to the effect of  'Shut the fuck up, you fucking helmets and don't fuck with me or my football club or I'll make you eat your own balls', without actually using th

Born in Liverpool, my dad was always a red since childhood and so naturally there was no choice for me to make.

Moved down to Bristol in 1986 and still remember my Dad's introduction to the neighbours was explaining why he was shouting "YOU BLUE BASTARDS!" at the telly during the FA Cup final - southerners don't seem to understand passionate fans supporting successful clubs....

;D

This is a kind of pathetic reason but oh well.

I used to be bullied alot and football was the one way that everyone was equal. No matter who you supported or how good you were yourself everyone then had something in common.

My dad supports Chelsea and my brother Man Utd and I chose Liverpool because of YNWA. As I learnt more about football and the club it helped me through all the insults, etc.

And just because I haven't been to Anfield doesn't make me a bad fan. I'm 15 with financial problems in my family so a ticket to the match, train/coach fares and the fact i'd have to go alone all restrict me. I'm going to start going to as many away games in/around London as possible once I have money from work and EMA coming in.

You will get there mate, I think I was 20 before I could even afford to go and had the bollocks to do so.

I know where you are coming from with the bullying things aswell, I actually got bullied more for being a Liverpool fan. Then got hounded when I said Michael Owen was going to be fantastic.

Back in the early eighties we went on a tremendous run of League Cup (when it was the Milk Cup :) )victories, 4 or 5 I think. Although I can't remember which year it was, I remember Ian Rush being mesmerizing, and I've been a fan ever since. I don't remember watching the 84 Euro final, but I do remember 85, and it's the first match I can actually remember watching. Anyway, I've been a fan ever since.

Red family, for generations since the club was formed our clan has been represented there.

Immediate family, Grandad went to the match. Mums a STH whos been going for about 40 years. My old fella went throughout the 70s and 80s and now goes the odd game. Torch has been passed on now to me and my brother. Same will be drilled into my kids.

Choice was never an issue.

For better or worse.

Scouse drinking mate of me dads didn't have kids of his own and decided I would be a Red to carry on his family tradition (my dads not into footie). Took a bit of arm twisting (I was five years old and didn't like liver) but he eventually extracted a solemn promise from me to be a Red until my dying day, and I've never looked back.

Instead of bedtime stories he used to come up to my room and tell me about Shanks and the redmen, before he went out on the lash with my dad. Hence it's drilled in deep.

He's not with us any more, but I was proud to stand at the Ataturk thinking how much he would have enjoyed it. Well, the second half anyway!

At first it was just to fit in with the rest of the crowd at Primary school, another tactic to avoid getting beaten by racists or called a racist name.

Then fell in love with Liverpool properly after the '86 Final, and football in general after the 86 World Cup.

Incidently, a lot of those kids who I wished to stay cool with by supporting the same team, quickly moved on to Millwall. I don't think I would quite fit in as a brown faced 'paki' at the New Den.
