Totally agree.

I think, apart from an away game at a top six side, away to Cardiff would be the worst start.

If that leak is true then home to W Ham is a good start.
That's pretty much the dream - an established but shit prem team. Extra bonus points because Pellegrini will have them playing slightly toothless possession football which would seem pretty much custom built for us to thunderbastard.

West Ham at home would be decent, Everton go to the Etihad - poor buggers :D

Nah, don`t want our closest rivals next season with such an easy 3 points to start  ;)

We won't be able to play them on the first weekend, but they certainly are due a thrashing. Would be a nice way to start their third season of Mourinho, though!

We played Arsenal away in 2016 so is this must be a new rule then. Interesting.

The main thing is getting a win regardless of who we play, I just want us to thrash whoever we get on the first day.

Is it an FA rule, or a Sky/other company that pays money into the league rule?

We've finished outside the top 6 the season prior on both occasions. Seen an article on the Echo saying it was for commercial reasons. The top 6 from the previous season can't play each other on the first or last game of the season. Doubt it's an FA rule.

What kind of bs rule is that

A tv money rule.

There's also hardly ever a derby game for most clubs on opening day, and in general through out the years we've always played the Mancs away for instance in the 2nd part of the season and the we always tend to play the bitters in the spring

You know it's fixed that a promoted team gets a big side and they normally play the champions. Also it's probably better to have a big game later on in the season

Its a fucking racket this. Look at United's starts the last couple of seasons barely play a top side until October. We cant have our biggest earners abroad United not near the top of the league and finishing 5th or 6th lets give them an early season confidence boost. Scudamore basically said as much in an interview. It happens in the NFL were its all about having the biggest matchups with the biggest audience to make the most money. Platini last month said in 1998 the draw was rigged to keep the hosts France and Brasil apart until the final.

United’s second place finish last season was a complete fluke though compared to the three seasons before that, easy starts don’t always mean much.

But if they have 'easy' fixtures up to October, that surely means they have a run of four or five 'hard' fixtures in a row? Ultimately, everyone plays everyone else twice, so it completely evens itself out.

No, they are then going into the big games near the top of the league with points in the bag and full of confidence. I hope the Anfield United game is not after the October international break like the last 2 years that's a real pain in the arse with no training or prep for Klopp and the players. We play with rythym and tempo and its fucked us right over. Also want more home games after our champions league games.

Scudamore's last season as EPL boss.

He'll give them a great fixture list as a parting gift with a easy start and run in.

Last seasongreat set of early fixtures in the season came months after he gave an interview saying the PL needs United winning titles again as it would be good for the "PL brand".
"Since its purchase by the sheikh of Abu Dhabi, Manchester City has managed to cheat its way into the top echelon of European football and create a global, immensely profitable football empire, ignoring rules along the way. The club's newfound glory is rooted in lies."

Playing newly promoted teams at the start of the season can be a nightmare, them still being on a high from getting promotion. Opening weekend 06/07 we struggled at Sheffield United & relied an a Gerrard penalty to get away with a point, then Bournemouth second match of the season couple of years back, struggled but got away with a 1-0 win

Both of those Anfield games ended in 0-0, I know United usually play for a draw but if they can't beat us with no training or preparation then that's their problem.

It was three years after, not months after. It won't matter anyway, it's Mourinho's third season and they're heavily reliant on de Gea, plus they won't be better than us or City.
