Dutch - Eredivisie
« on: February 15, 2012, 12:19:51 pm »
Has anyone been following this league at all?

I would open it up as just saying how well PSV are doing and it's all down to Dries Mertens after his move this season. PSV sit at the top of the league currently but only on GD+ but are tied with AZ Alkmaar.

The top 5 are very interesting.

PSV have Ola Toivenen and Dries Mertens who are just tearing up defences for fun. Ola has 21 apps and 12 goals but Dries Mertens of Belgium has 21 apps and 15 goals. I hope we are watching Dries he is a really great talent *no dig at Downing*. PSV have a strong midfield with Strootman and one to watch at the Euro's this summer is Georginio Wijnaldum .

AZ Alkmaar are second and have one of Sweden's talents that is Elm who was taunted to Sunderland this summer for a move then the usual Manchester United. Elm is AZ top goal scorer and at 23 years old is one to watch. His partner in crime is Jozy Altidore the American and he has slotted a few away this season as he lies as their second goal scorer. One to watch is Adam Maher at AZ and only 18 years old has made the first 11 a lot this season, he prefers to score in Europa mind with 2 in 3 games.

Then there is Heerenveen in all honesty I don't really like them but they're 3rd. They annoy me a little but their last 6 games have been steam rolled wins. One to watch would be Bas Dost of Netherlands being 22 years old and having scored 19 goals in 21 games is a great scoring record.

Ah Feyenoord the club that revolves around the Manchester City loanee that is John Guidetti at 19 years old a wizard with the ball. 13 starts this season and 17 goals is rivaling form to Bas of Heerenveen. John is from Sweden and in his last 4 games has hit 3 hat tricks

Twente remember these? Luuk De Jong and Schteve Mclaren's club. Sctheve in his last 6 games has only won twice and drawn once and lost three games. Soft spot for Twente as they have Leroy Fer and LDJ. LDJ in his last six games has hit 10 goals .

Ajax? what happened. Vitesse (who are Chelsea's feeder club ) are sat behind them close on their tales. Ajax have a lot of tidy players but have just one win in there last 6 games is woeful form. Maybe it's the drama at the club with Van Basten who knows but they do have the players to storm this league with Siem De Jong who is Luuk De Jong's brother. Chris Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweild and Van Der Wiel (who is off in the summer) is a good spine with Siem up front mind.

I quite like it. It's had a big dip in quality over the past few years. Any talent worth having is jumping ship at the first opportunity but they seem to be doing a lot better recently. Although I don't think they'll ever hit the same hights unless they have some drastic changes but I think they could go the Bundesliga route, focus on homegrown talent and build a more balanced league which will pay off in the long term.

It's interesting that Marco van Basten will be sc Heerenveen's new coach! sc Heerenveen has some great players with Djuricic, Assaidi, Dost, Narsingh, Gouweleeuw. But even though v. Basten might help to keep them stay for another year, it will be very difficult to keep them much longer.

Another little guy I would love to mention is defensive midfielder Clasie, this little kid has been massive for Feyenoord this year and v. Marwijk admitted he is following him. Strootman will probably be a starter at the Euro's and is still vital for PSV, but hasn't been as great as he was before the winterbreak.  v. Bommel will probably return to PSV Eindhoven next season, but he won't if PSV signs Louis v. Gaal as their new coach.

With an average of 3.25 goals/match (Highest in Europe) and with 6 teams who are able to win the league it's a joy to watch. It's the youngest league in Europe, what makes it unpredictable and often incredibly naïve, but that's why it's fun to follow. (Tip: If you want to buy a striker, divide the amount of goals scored by 3.3 and multiply it by 2.5. That gives a more realistic amount. And even then you still have to correct for the difference in league level between the PL and the Eredivisie)

Vitesse wants to win the league in a few years, making them the laughing stock of the Eredivisie. They did however manage to improve significantly and they will be a serious force in Dutch football soon if that crazy guy keeps investing money in them.

The Dutch League is stronger than it was around 2008, but we'll never be a major force in Europe as long we don't merge with Belgium. But it's more balanced than ever, every team can beat every team. Almost every team is younger than 24 years (avg. age), consisting mainly of Dutch players and we have strict financial rules, hopefully that will pay off in the future. It's crazy that Sporting needs 30 million money in a few weeks to survive from the state (have a dept of 265 million euro's) while they are still able to attract Eredivisie players since they pay much more. While according to Dutch financiel rules, they wouldn't even exist anymore.

Talking about the Eredivisie, midfielder Adam Maher (AZ, 18) and wingers Ola John(FC Twente, 19) and Narsingh(Heerenveen, 21) got a call-up for the pre-selection (first time) for the friendly against England. Might be Eredivisie kids to watch.

Will Wijnaldum be in the Dutch squad for the Euros? I like him a lot...reminds me a bit of Mata - I guess he would operate wide at LFC but I think his best position is in the no10 role.

I understand LFC have scouted Dries Mertens...I like him although he is very small. Anyway would be a major upgrade to Downing and shouldn't be too expensive...

He probably will, he won't be a starter. He currently plays for PSV as a sort of defensive midfielder with a lot of attacking intentions. He's terrific when he has space to operate but he can be weak if that's not the case. I expect him to end up at the wings when going abroad. If he stays, v. Bommel will probably play alongside Strootman, in that scenario he'll have to battle with Toivonen for the nummer 10 position. I expect Toivonen will be sold.

About Mertens, PSV bought him for 6 million euro's so he'll probably cost around 15 million euro's.

Him being small is the reason Anderlecht let him go when he was in their youth system. Pretty sure they are kicking themselves over that one. I'd say he would be a decent player for us, but that step up we really need.

Here is a boss article on John Guidetti (weird as I just logged on Twitter and saw it)

best goals to games ratio only Alfonso Alves is ahead of him at the moment, crazy

Quality isn't always great but the games are most of the time quite entertaining because the teams are (mostly) on even strength.

No mention of all the penalties Guidetti;s scored in that article.

No doubt he's a talent, but his numbers are a little deceiving.

No mention of Dusan Tadic in the OP? shocking.

Definitely the best player in the eredivisie right now imo.

If anything we should 'transfer in' Groningens scout.

He got FCG Suarez and Tadic for a combined 2.25m euros...

Hey man I only covered the top 5 :)

Nemeth is playing really well, I think he won 2 penalties and got an assist in 4 games. He's quite unlucky not to have a goal yet, if he continues like this I think he'll be at a better team next season.

PSV,  AZ Alkmaar and Twente won their European matches. Neo-internationals 18yr old Adam Maher and 19yr Ola John where vital for their teams, by scoring the only goals. Especially Ola John's goal was terrific

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5N2IykiOx4

Ajax lost, but given their current form and all the players they miss it's not a shame. For PSV Eindhoven, a 17yr old Dutch leftback is currently a regular. He's called Jetro Willems. Might be a player to watch. Not Liverpool material yet, but given he's already not much worse than Pieters who's an international it's quite impressive.

I follow the Eredivisie a bit more than usually now that my cousin plays for FC Utrecht. Michael Zullo, who is also Australias no.1 left back at the moment. Unfortunately for him, theyve suffered this season after selling key players such as Vorm to Swansea and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel to Sporting Lisbon.

Theres always great talent in this division, especially from Ajax. I really want to see Vertonghen play, but Ive never had the chance, he seems to be really highly rated. Luuk de Jong is another who will move soon, he rapidly improving by the season.
