Just watched 7 again, for some reason. I knew I wouldn't like it and there's no way reason. to go into it again. with that said...everyone understanding BB8 when he blooped was probably the most annoying thing this time around.

Hmmmmm...  ???

Spoiler
Lends HUGE credence to the theory, actually almost confirmed by Lucasfilm, that Jedha became Starkiller base, as it seems like the Death Star does some serious damage to the planet but doesn't blow it up.
[close]

Also Vader looks like he either has RSI or he's just finished choking someone again.

Yeah, I noticed that about Vader too.

Had a feeling we'd see the Death Star fire. Can't really not. I'm guessing the superlaser isn't fully functional yet.

Just reading Tarkin.  Some good parts, especially his relationship with Vader and Sidious.  On the whole I'm a bit disappointed though.  Read some of the other new canon but this has probably been the one I've enjoyed least.

Not sure which one it looks a rehash of - it's a new story that leads up to episode 4...

Are you commenting based upon the fact it has a death star in it...which is pretty fundamental to the story....?

Sorry lads no offence meant as love the Star Wars movies and understand its a lot easier for them to build on the franchise by taking something familiar and teasing it out to a new movie. How did they ever get the plans to destroy the Death Star? How did the Death Star ever come about? Some of the questions asked at the preliminary talks about the movie I am sure which led to this episode I guess. I will be one of many that will be adding to the coffers of Disney ...fingers crossed its better than the last Episode (average to decent) which was still leaps n bounds ahead of the last trilogy Lucas dumped on us.

I honestly think Disney missed a trick.  I wish they had done Rogue One last year so they could have had a completely clean slate with Episode 7.

Lucas claimed that Disney wanted to "do a fan movie" with Ep 7, and Plinkett said they played safe with Starkiller base etc.  But Rogue One could have been that Fan Movie - with classic X-Wings and Tie Fighters, Star Destroyers and the Death Star, Darth Vader - the works.  Then we could have opened up with the hunt for Luke Skywalker in Ep 7.

As it stands, Rogue One looks set to be an outstanding movie, but I fear TFA will end up looking like the poor sibling out of this new clutch of SW films.

Interesting...

...or.....you could say that feeling of walking out of a cinema and not feeling disappointed by a Star Wars film after the massive hype for the first time in decades belongs to Episode 7 and always will.  ;)

As long as Ep 8 and 9 build upon Rogue One it'll be ok.

With all these new films, they should be looking at making them progressively better.

Interesting...

...or.....you could say that feeling of walking out of a cinema and not feeling disappointed by a Star Wars film after the massive hype for the first time in decades belongs to Episode 7 and always will.  ;)

Unless you walked out feeling disappointed?

Build on how? Storyline-wise I think this is a one-off. We don't know if it's going to be any good or not, there were rumours of edits and reshoots and whatnot before. It's supposed to be a standalone war movie (at one point anyway).
Maybe the group, led by your leadership, will see these drafts as PR functions and brilliant use of humor

As it stands, Rogue One looks set to be an outstanding movie, but I fear TFA will end up looking like the poor sibling out of this new clutch of SW films.

As someone with a great fondness for The Force Awakens, I would be 100% ok with this. If that ends up being the low bar, then the next films will have done something really special.

I was disappointed though.  I came out wishing I could have liked it more - wanting to like it more.  I'd really hoped to go back and watch it again in the cinema; but as things turned out once was enough.  It just wasn't good enough for me to justify paying money to watch it twice.

That sense of disappointment has grown, especially in the wake of the Rogue One trailers.  TFA is just not a film I'm interested in watching again, not all the way through.  Don't get me wrong, it's got its moments and the characters are brilliant, but it just rehashes too much so it got boring very quickly.

As Beav says, if this ends up being the worst film then I can live with it - as long as the other films fulfil their promise.  I'm hoping the next two in the trilogy follow a similar line to Rogue One in terms of style and cinematography, as JJ said they would be very different to TFA.

I really hope this is as good as some of you are expecting. I've been trying to reign in my anticipation, but almost everyone in here is confident this'll be a good one - so it's been difficult! Haven't watched the trailers yet, just seen the (excellent looking) cast. Wish it was out earlier in December!

Not from a storyline point of view but from a blockbuster point of view. As Beav said, if TFA is the "worst" of all the new films, then I'm happy with that.

I think people should stop worrying about these films, they are all going to be good. Some will be better than others, they'll all have a slightly different tone so obviously people will have their own ideas about which they prefer. But Lucasfilm know what they're doing - they're employing competent writers and directors who clearly 'get' Star Wars, and using different people to make each film should keep things fresh. One of the main problems with the prequels was that they were all written and directed by one person who had complete control, and had lost whatever ability he had to create interesting stories and characters. That shouldn't be a problem here.

I was disappointed though.

Fair enough...

I could understand why they did a bit of the rehashing of old themes but can also understand why some would have wanted more.

I think the main trilogy will get stronger as it goes on and to be honest I'd prefer that. Goes against the grain because I guess origin stories (or in this case re-launch)
are always the best in a series
Lets just hope it doesn't get worse!

Well this is why I think Rogue One would have been best to "reboot" the series.  It would have covered all the bases concerning the old themes without having to tangle it all up in a new trilogy film.  In retrospect, TFA's only function was to introduce us to the new characters, under the flimsiest of pretexts and convoluted plot conveniences.

The main trilogy WILL get stronger, but I'm disappointed because Force Awakens could - and should - have been more.
