Never heard that before mate.real nice and chilled.always remember hearing about ,when he released tracks through his alias/pseudynom  'Amen Andrews'  ;D

Luke Vibert - Get Your Head Down
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVbaWeT9pfs

Hip Hop will rock and shock the nation... ;D

It's funny, that's the defining track for 70 minutes of madness for me. Much like Bear Witness is the defining track of the James Lavelle Cream Live.

Have you heard Coldcut v DJ Food Fight mate?

Edit: cut in with samples from True Romance and one of the Dirty Harry films (can't remember which one). Superb eh?

i think leftfield where the ultimate dance music stylists - paul daley is obsessed with beats though more from the house and tech-house end of the spectrum.  its why they took so long to follow up leftism - major label's slow release schedules drove them mad as by the time they'd be ready to bring it out daley hated how the drums sounded feeling things had moved on.

there debut 'leftism' still sounds remarkably fresh though and how many brilliant early club moments are on there too.  i remember first hearing them on their first track together - the hard hands mix of 'not forgotten' at the coco club in brighton and feeling like the back doors had been blown off.  american garage had disappeared up its own arse with endless vocal reversions of the same plodding arrangements when suddenly british house reared up its snarling head and suddenly made things interesting again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jd7zbScttQ

;D  Took me right back to Colours in Edinburgh there mate. One of the happiest years of my life (whoooosh!)

rodney though would only call his work hip-hop.  he is a maverick genius and its an all time crying shame that he's not the super star he should be.  if he'd been born in brooklyn his mixture of surrealism and wordplay would propel him into the major league but in the uk he's always been stuck on the margins as tv and radio just don't seem to know where to promote him.  mtv bass didn't want him scruffing up the bland materialism of the most vacuous rnb and mtv2 don't seem to see him slotting in between whatever crap they're playing these days.

a crying shame.  he is a fucking legend its just a shame he'll only be famous when he's dead.

It's true that Hass and it's also true of a lot of the Ninja Tunes/Big Dada roster really isn't it?

did you ever go the sub club in glasgow?  i'm a big fan of harri and dominic - deep as you like if your taste ever strays to the housier end of the spectrum.  i used to go and see harri at the sub club in london which was a tiny wee place when it was off oxford st.  the night derrick carter played...

yep ninja tune just never really seemed to kick it off.  they had the club - stealth at the old blue note was roadblocked from the off with all the tasty ladies and pretty much ever dj listed on here playing on every floor - and they had the records but no one really went 'over the top' in terms of being a breakout album artist.

It's by "Nobody" and I used to have it on a Hexstatic Solid Steel recording but it's long since dead (post getting married and losing everything - maybe it's in the loft somewhere but the kids will just have to find it when I pop it).

This thread is superb :)  Thanks for that man. Is that on the "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" soundtrack? I'm gonna go and dig out Super Discount tomorrow I reckon.

It's funny - they did an essential mix and it was so downtempo and unconventional it was untrue - I remember them playing the theme from Mash and it was much like that all the way.

We must be getting old. I honestly never thought I'd be sat getting nostalgic about the sub club. One of my best mates died last year quite suddenly and we had a wake in Wales (where he'd settled) and a lot of the people we used to hang about with were there... and it was mostly looking back at nights in Edinburgh and Glasgow. It was always the Sub Club whenever I was through mate - Harri and McMillan and Miekle.

The nights down south were a notch above by all accounts but still - happy times eh? I was a pizza chef at the time and I'd trade my staff food to get free entry into the venues.

yep ninja tune just never really seemed to kick it off.  they had the club - stealth at the old blue note was roadblocked from the off with all the tasty ladies and pretty much ever dj listed on here playing on every floor - and they had the records but no one really went 'over the top' in terms of being a breakout album artist.

They're still going though - you wonder if it was intentional you know? Mowax and Ninja Tunes eh? Aaaah when ah wur a lad...

amazing record.  it came out as a series of 4 12s that made up the super discount logo.

this is a banger.  'le patron est devenu fou' or, literally, 'the manager's gone mad'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4biQDLz_uwI

i so loved the first house album from etienne de crecy as half of motorbass.

it's one of the gems of french house but seems a wee bit forgotten these days.

here's 'flying fingers' - strident, confident, prime time deep house:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_Bim5Ox-jo

st germain also released a few pearlers.

here's rahdoo from romania's rpr soundsystem dub of shuffling jazz house classic 'rose rouge'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8zMi1qAxD8

i heard villalobos play this at a party in oslo last spring.

he played a house set at fabricken and, of course, he absolutely rocked it.

Was gonna post Porno 3003 by Pizzicato 5 but can't find a decent link. It's superb.

I invested in some decent monitors a few months back and it's one of the tracks that blows your socks off.

It'd be like that for me 2 mate.got over 15000 records.my mam an dad would look through it.and wonder what the fuck !!

Unless the Beatles,Johnny Cash etc are in there.its going in a bin or to a charity shop and ...They're open minded about music :P

Sorry about your mate as well Roy.

Not at all mate - happy memories galore and nowt else when it comes to that fella. To sum the bloke up, we got down to Bangor and got a taxi in the middle of town. The taxi driver says "Are you here for that Scottish bastard's wake?" ;) He was a character, the lad.

Some real shite in his music collection in my view (he was into all sorts of jazz and funk that I couldn't be bothered with) but he was a proper carpet bomber.

You know what mate,i listen to some of the most depressing stuff you'll ever hear .but you'll be hard pushed to find a more postive lad.

same with the likes of anyone who listens to this kinda stuff IMO

I find its usually the lads/gals who find emotion in music that sounds depressing rather than just the uptempo/High Bpms  that are the ones with a more postive outlook  in life...,

But thats just me :P

what about the rotary connection original?  the 4 hero version is nice but its a pretty faithful cover.

Ahh, Rotary Connection, not trip hop but well worth getting hold of their stuff. The great Minnie Riperton's first band.
