Is there any precedent for stripping teams of titles for breaching FFP? I don’t think there is.

FFP is new so probably not. Weren’t Marseille stripped of the UEFA Champions League win back in 93 for financial issues? Not sure if it’s been done domestically.

Nothing wrong, absolutely nothing.  :D

Wonder how long it’ll take for them to realise we got cleared off the ‘hacking’ due to payments made to City? 😂

Have loved reading this thread since last night, it's good for the soul and has cheered me right up. Thanks to everyone who has made me smile.
It's been frustrating when coming across other supporters seeming indifference to the cheating.
Maybe it's just the way of the world now.
Well done UEFA for doing something, lets hope they stick by it.

I would love it if they stripped them of titles. But also make a point of taking the players medals away. Noone seems to care that its actually blood money that has been doing the deceiving just that they are doped. The players punishment should be included to remind them they lost years of their career as a substitute for dirty cash.

In my ideal world I'd love to ban Chelsea as well while we are at it, the original cheats who somehow always seem to come up smelling of roses.

Man City to me means Dennis Tuart, Gerry Gow, Tommy Hutchinson and players of their ilk and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I wonder if that club will ever exist again?

There are some interesting articles out there if you search for them. This from Rob Harris, who was the journalist who asked Guardiola how he was paid, it was said that City had been asked the same question but had given no reply which is why they were forced to ask Guardiola in person. There have been journalists who have questioned aspects of Man City, but sometimes you have to search for them. The arcticle he is talking about is one Ian Herbert did, despite pressure from City and their lawyers Herbert always stood by the story, needless to say he's pleased UEFA have taken some action.

How are fans of other clubs taking this? I imagine fans of Utd, Arsenal, Spurs are delighted. On the other hand fans of smaller clubs who still hope for a sugar daddy to rocket them to the top might be unhappy to see City being slapped down.

This is really good and you won't see it in the UK press:

The big signings Man City made during sanctioned period: Almost 700m euros spent

With Manchester City banned from UEFA competition for two years after accounting irregularities between 2012 and 2016, the Blues spent almost 700m euros during that period. Here are the 15 biggest sums spent by the Premier League club.

A contrarian perspective here: Anyone else thinking the timing of this announcement is evidence that clubs like Real Madrid have UEFA/FIFA wrapped around their fingers?

Don't get me wrong: I think it's hilarious what has happened to City; it couldn't have happened to a more deserving team (deserving of the 'Cheat' tag). But something about the timing of the release makes me think UEFA are doing Real Madrid a favour. Getting the best performance out of your players (which they would need to beat Madrid) becomes that much harder with a shitstorm scandal all over the press. The real cheats are behind the scenes, in the boardrooms, etc., but it's the players and Pep who have to be the face of the club most of the time.

City will definitely lose that tie now.

The manager and players knew who they were singing for, and if the leaks are true have a hand in the dirty money pot with how they are paid. So they get what they deserve.

Just a quick point for those who think that FFP is 'Tory'. Whilst one of the side effects is that is makes it harder for smaller clubs to overspend in a bit to 'catch-up', it does not simply keep the status quo.

There are a whole bunch of exclusions where you can make losses - you can spend on things like infrastructure and deduct those losses from the figure that UEFA bases compliance on. Man City have spend tons on things like their (rented) stadium, training ground etc. I believe we avoided non-compliance because our losses were mostly infrastructure.

There is nothing to stop a rich owner buying a small club (Everton), buying a big fuck off stadium then using that new revenue to bankroll signings. Leicester's owners are wealthy and have done similar. Tottenham have muscled in by grow organically so it can be done.

Of course, doing it this way takes time to build, which is not what these crybabies want to do.
Some clubs were always destined for greatness...

Thinks thats just cos we were battering them in the league!

Haha that as well, but I'm expecting an eyewatering amount of whataboutism from Man City in reaction to this.

The scouting "hack" seems like a pre-emptive strike in hindsight now, muddying the waters in anticipation of the UEFA ruling.

Also, I know that football is incredibly tribal but where are all the intelligent Man City fans? Even if you ignore the human rights abuses of their funders, do they genuinely think their revenue growth passes the smell test?

Just had a text from my city mate (he supported city many years before they won the oil lottery). His quote  "it was fun while it lasted". He accepts the ban as inevitable and actually accepts that they cheated but his caveat is that it was done to try and catch up with the elite clubs. He was uneasy about their owners from the start.

I wonder how many of their proper fans actually just accept it and were uneasy about their owners in the first place ?

I can actually get on board with this excuse.  But it's still an excuse.

Objectively, at the time of the takeover I was genuinely interested to see how much it would cost and how much time it would take for a "regular" club to bridge the gap to the top tier.  If they'd hired a Benitez type manager, with decent scouts and modest (although perhaps slightly above board) purchases, then by now they'd probably be a firmly established top four club, with several trophies, maybe even a title.  But because the Sheik has no patience and wanted it all NOW, he went for the steamroller option.

It shows just how badly they really are in need of PR; because the "slow" route of about 15 years, gradually building City up, would have been a far more effective and positive brand of sports washing for Abu Dhabi. But they seemed to have nobody around to counsel them on this strategy and they are far too used to getting their own way.

Instead they chose to create a monster, and in the process they've turned City into a pariah and a laughing stock.  And they're not appealing this decision for the sake of the club or its fans - it's because they've been made to look like prize winning chumps because they've finally been held to account.

And what I won't abide with, is all these "sound" City fans who might suddenly come out and admit they've always felt uncomfortable about this, and admit they knew what was going on.  Fuck off with that crap.  You cheated, you knew it, and you didn't give a flying fuck.  You chose to look the other way and were complicit through your silence.

Show me a City fan who says they stopped going the game because it didn't feel like their club anymore, that it had lost its soul, but that nobody would listen to them, and then perhaps I'll be more sympathetic.
I don't always visit Lobster Pot.  But when I do. I sit.

Re Madrid (where I live). That dodgy land deal that was done, in which Madrid's training ground was sold at a ludicrous price (447 million euros) so that four skyscrapers the city didn't need could be built. An out-and-out cash gift from local government to the club. The land was worth nothing like that amount.

How RM didn't get a proper punishment is amazing. I think they got a slap on the wrist from the EU, but not from any footballing authority.

They will be stuck in reverse back to the time when Stuart Pearce was their manager.

The fact remains they are not yet a global club like us, United, Arsenal. They can’t buy their way out this time because FFP won’t allow them to do so again.
