If you get it then tell me what you think. Very tempted to buy it with my birthday money next month.

If you decide to get it and its the in-store price of £170 odd and want to save £25 you can get it off Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0007Z9ZQI/202-4884538-4807024?v=glance&n=560798

Brad, get the IXUS - mate of mine who's a pro photographer (and who uses nikon for work) has one, after a LOT of testing of different makes and models. I had to persuade him originally to look at a canon, but once he did, he was sold.

They are fantastic cameras for the price. Great quality, good features.

Did you see my reply to you in the last thread?

If I was you, I'd go canon. I'm a Canon man too!

You'd probably get a 300D for very good money now, and it's an excellent camera.

(note that second one is without lenses)

Don't underestimate the value of an optical viewfinder.

Just bought  a Canon PowerShot A610 and the one of the main reasons why I bought it was becasue it had an optical viewfinder where as a lot at this price don't have them.

Can't fault the camera and it gives excellent results for the money.

That's the boy there. Smashing value with 5mp and a 4X optical zoom.

My old canon pro 90 had that vari angle LCD, and I still miss it. SOOO brilliant for getting strange angle shots.

Bought a Panasonic Lumix recently. DMC-FX8 is the model. Went to the shop with the intention of buying an IXUS or a Casio, but was advised to buy the Lumix. It has a Leica lens and optical image stabilisation (all the others are digital). Pleased to bits with it. It's a nice solid camera, small, and fast.

270 Euros  ;). Also, it makes fantastic videos at 640x480. Top quality, though it uses 1MB/sec, so you need a BIG card to get more than 15 minutes on it.

If you just want a cheap and cheerful nice looking compact camera, I see ebuyer are doing an offer on the Ixus i5 today for £100, no optical viewfinder or optical zoom though, to keep the size down.

I bought a Vivitar 5.0 megapixel one from Superdrug for £85. Haven't used it much but it seems ok, nice screen on it.

They were doing a deal on memory cards as well, bought a 256mb one for £14 I think.

Read some decent independent reviews before you buy anyway, a  few sites are good for digicam reviews, you'll get a lot of cameras with great numbers of megapixels which still manage to turn out very ordinary photos

Personally I Love the Canon Ixus range

This is slightly over your budget by £20. (just buy a cheaper cot).

looks the DB's and has a nice big LCD

I bought that first one ( Kodak z740 ) about 6 weeks ago.Your right about it not being pocket sized but once you know that, you cant go wrong,
I have to say i absolutely love it.It has so many features on it.The zoom is it's best selling point and it is very very good.Very good camera for night time shots too, like in the pub and partys etc etc.

At that price its a steal.I checked out alot of cameras before I bought this.I work with a guy who is a camera nut and spends more time on dp review than I do sleeping and he thought that was the one to go for at that price. The zoom is what sold it me and it turned out to be better than I expected.
