I've had the Kozelek one on a few times and I quite like it. More than the last one anyway. I kind of tune in and out. There's a ridiculous amount of lyrics to take in, the vibe is slowly reeling me in though. Boxing, disaster, touring, death, music, all his usual topics.

The Spoon track is cool, still looking forward to the whole LP.

Hand Habits album is good too.

Saw Band Of Horses on Thursday night.

Absolutely brilliant gig - really tight sound and played a cover of Powderfinger. Loved it.

It's fucking great actually. Nice one.

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Whether you like flamenco or not, this album is well worth checking out.

Rosaliá has a remarkable voice and this album is great mix of traditional flamenco and modern infliuences. It's really well mixed and produced as well.

Give it a go.

Very Lou Reed esque. Listening again now.

Sounds great on first few listens.

The Sun Kil Moon one, 'Philadephia Cop', where he's moaning about music journalists with the mini skit where the bloke is talking about going to SXSW and being friends with 'Doctor John Misty' and then he gets a text from Sufjan Stevens :lmao Fucking hell he's so bitter but it really tickled me.

Going to give the new Dirty Projectors a listen, don't think I've ever heard anything by them. Selective deafness is what I seem to have.

Anyone into Conor Oberst?

Looks like the book is truly closed on Bright Eyes now, and he's focusing on his solo career.

His new record, Salutations, is due out in a couple of weeks - a couple of tracks here:

A Little Uncanny:

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/3eJCyJ8vhJM" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/3eJCyJ8vhJM</a>

'Till St. Dymphna Kicks Us Out:

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/D627Jv_dKlA" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/D627Jv_dKlA</a>

The demos for this album actually led to the release of a 'prequel' to this album...a stripped-back version, titled Ruminations.  A track here:

Barbery Coast (Later):

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/fyJucQrCZWE" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/fyJucQrCZWE</a>

Saw him play a low-key set at Manchester's Albert Hall last month - hoping he returns with a band set up at some point later in the year.

Been a cracking week for new music. The new Brokeback album (Douglas McCombs from Tortoise, Eleventh Dream Day) is probably the best they've done. Very Tortoise esque, but with added middle-eastern/lounge influences. Really odd, but it works just fine.

Grails have also killed it with their new album. It could well be the perfect comedown album after tripping on psychedelics. Seeing them next week and can't wait.

King Woman might just be the best thing I've heard this year. They've basically mastered the doom/psychedelic/shoegaze crossover thing. Beautiful and brutal at the same time. Chip and Filler - reckon you lads might dig this.

Got the new Sleaford Mods, Pissed Jeans and Six Organs of Admittance ready to go. Can't wait!

Not seen any mention of the Jesca Hoop or Julie Byrne albums in here. Think they're two of the best this year so far.

Slightly disappointed in the Dirty Projectors new one after the first couple of listens having really liked their previous album.

Pleasantly surprised with Stormzy, saw him at Glastonbury last year and didn't get the hype but might have appreciated it more if I'd listened to his stuff beforehand. Too bad he's a Manc though!

Just en route back from Copenhagen.

Copenhagen is nice in general, it's where I'm working since last year.

Went to two gigs in Malmö over the weekend. Holy Now, my new favourite band played on Friday, and Eggstone making their first gig in 20 years I think. They marked the occasion by teaming up with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra and it was pure bliss. In case you're not aware of the indie scene in the 90's, Eggstone built Tambourine Studios were The Cardigans recorded basically all of their stuff as well as Superheroes and bob hund.

I'm at a Frankie Cosmos gig at a record store. It's so packed that there are more people outside than inside. She sounds lovely too.

Were you in Brooklyn? While I liked the concert last year I can almost imagine here being better in a record shop.

I know you like him mate, but it is JUST SO BORING. ;D

I think the last thing I'd ever describe Kozelek as is boring. However, I think he reached his creative peak with Admiral Fell Promises and that left nowhere to go, unless he just rehashed it. Since then he's completely reinvented himself and been very hit and miss. Among the Leaves was largely crap. Benji is a masterpiece and Universal Themes is patchy (though Birds of Flims is one of his best songs ever). The new one is......challenging.

Haha I wish I was in NYC. It was just in Brisbane, where she played the record store gig. And you're right, she sounded great in the venue. The arrangements are so sparse that it almost makes sense to play in such a stripped down venue.

Speaking of Brisbane, there's a rad new dance band that I mentioned a few pages ago. They're called Confidence Man and honestly, it shouldn't work. Sugary pop lyrics, 80's funk and synth beats, fake names and a well-rehearsed stage act. BUT... it just fucking works for some reason that I cannot understand yet. Maybe because it's just so much fun. They might be playing some UK gigs in the next couple of weeks.
