I really enjoyed that, just saw the new one on uktv play. Don't really care where it stands in the pantheon of best ever episodes. Was just nice to see them all together again.
Look out for Krytens line about why his head is the shape it is.
Be great if it carries on for a few more years yet.

Too soon to tell if the rest of this season will hold up, but generally speaking the new stuff on Dave has tended to be getting better and this first ep seems to continue that pattern.

i enjoyed it, Red Dwarf is what it is, you're not going to get acting of the highest quality, the storylines aren't always that strong but its just so good to see the 4 main characters back on the screen doing what they do

Saw the old episode last night when Rimmer and Lister are marooned on the ice planet and Lister pretends he's burnt his guitar. While some of the new episodes aren't up to scratch, some of the old ones are absolute classics and don't get the recognition they deserve.

I thought it was great. Nice to hear a live audience and there were some cracking one liners in there :)

Good story, cast doing well. Effects not as cheesy as they have been. Great start.

Saw an episode last night, 1950s prohibition, but not sure if it was a repeat?.... or if it's the one people are commenting on above?

Either way, thought it was v.good. Haven't seen RD for years, so it was nice to see the consistency of its characters/running jokes (one of its great strengths).

I enjoyed it, the first scene in the Starbug cockpit especially. The set was cool too, seems like they have a much bigger budget this time around. It's never going to touch seasons 2-6 but I certainly plan to continue watching on the strength of that one.

Better than series 7-8 by a long way, not as good as 1-6. Perfectly watchable.

I think they started out very weakly with the new ones on Dave, but have got noticeably better with each subsequent season and this opener was good.

Was a classic Red Dwarf episode for me. I thought Back to Earth and Season 10 was pretty gash, but this has restored a lot of hope for me.

I just watched it found it better than anything else they've done since series 6. I didn't like series 7 and 8. This seems to hark back to those earlier seasons and was almost back to the heights of that era.

Saw Episode 2 yesterday - pretty funny and reminded me of a few episodes in the first couple of series.

Spoiler

Good the way they've upped the effects without the cheesy-ness of Series 8 and 9. Also good to see the switches between the ship in its current state and the past state along with the explanation

Again, some pretty good gags and the crew look like they are enjoying being back in front of a live audience. The pause when Rimmer couldn't speak for a few seconds due to audience laughter was a cracker.

Much better than the first episode I thought but still think it's way too rushed.

Its on UKTV Play, plus you get the next episode 6 days early.

Overall i've enjoyed this series, its harked back to what made it good in the first place, four guys chatting shit and all hate Rimmer....even Rimmer!

I think if you take it as it is as a piece of nostalgic comedy then it's ok.

If you even attempt to compare it to the original then it crumbles badly

The show now is 3 million and 29 years away from what it used to be.

The biggest culprit for all this is the same way series 7-8 killed off the original run. Rob Grant leaving and Doug Naylor doing all the writing and directing on his own. It becomes a whole one sided view of what used to be a collaborative comedy.

For me the biggest criticism I have is that it's just not that funny any more. It's not bad, it's just not that good either. It's all very safe and by the numbers.

The biggest thing for me is that there is no overarching aim for the show. They are just a gang of misfits floating round in space going from one set piece to another. It's all boring

Anything critical I say means nothing for this Dave TV run as it is a ratings win for them as a channel. It's easily the highest rated show they have and easily the highest rating non-BBC, ITV, C4, C5 produced show. There will be more of it. It has that cult following built since 1988

I know what you mean about a lack of direction.

I can't help but feel it would be better if they were either looking for Kochanski or trying to go back to Earth. I had hoped that they would eventually tie the series off with them getting home. The idea of Cat and Lister dying of old age deep in space and leaving Kryten and Rimmer alone forever after is deeply depressing ;D
