Klinger going third ball meant Gloucestershire never really got going.  Hopefully we creep up to 200, at least we'll have something to bowl at.

Tight, controlled bowling from Surrey.

Jones gone for 50, the last time he'll bat professionally.

Should get around 230, shouldn't be enough but it's something to bowl at.

Maybe 230 is optimistic, Dernbach gets Miles, gets his 5 and is on a hat-trick.

And Dernbach gets his hat-trick (although it was missing by a mile).

Gloucestershire all out for 220.

I don't mind Lancy, I really don't. I have a soft spot for them (After all so many Yorkshiremen have played for them over the years).

Now Surrey.....

Lancs v Essex started a day late. Jimmy got Cook for 1. I wonder how often they've faced each other in First Class cricket. Not a lot I reckon! Essex 87/3.

We are 8 points behind Surrey so at the very least think we need to win and hope they don't. Unlikely with a 3 day game at best. Essex 284/4.

Final afternoon of the county season. With about 1 and a half sessions to go I just can't see Lancs getting the win they need to overhaul Surrey for the Div2 title. The last few games for Lancashire have been a bit worrying. Particularly the pace attack. With the exception of Anderson the pace attack has looked pretty toothless without Jarvis. Are the likes of Jordan Clark or Tom Bailey going to worry Div 1 batting line ups? Really think they'll need a good overseas bowler next year to survive in Div 1.

On the other hand I think Surrey will do well in Div 1. As long as either Curran brother doesn't get picked by England they'll have a bowling attack to worry any team.

The only other remaining issue to resolve in the domestic season is whether Hampshire or Sussex gets relegated from Div 1. Sussex need to avoid defeat to avoid relegation. Looks like it's going right down to the wire with Sussex currently needing 181 to win with 5 wickets remaining.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

The champions elect are are on the verge of sealing the relegation of Sussex to Div 2 where they'll replace the promoted Lancashire Surrey. Sussex needing another 100 runs to win are 208-9

Lancs promoted too, just as runners up, not champions. I'd have settled for that and a cup win at the start of the season.

Prince aside, the rest of the team in the last couple of days are home grown I think. Explains why they've not won!...but still good to see.

Agree that I think we could struggle next season without a strike bowler and an experienced run scorer. Ah well!

That's pretty arse on Yardy getting relegated in his last game. It does now also leave Div 1 as 8 of the 9 test grounds + zomerzet.

I think we should have a little look at that final table. Speaks for itself really. Nice bunching between 2 and 9.

Cricket is looking healthy in the Broad Acres. Looking forward to seeing Willey join the team next season. And, of course, the Roses matches.....

That's pretty arse on Yardy getting relegated in his last game. It does now also leave Div 1 as 8 of the 9 test grounds + zomerzet.

Definitely getting to the stage where it's hard to see some the 'smaller' counties ever getting back to Division 1.

Teams like Leicestershire and Derbyshire seem to have no chance of getting back to Div 1. They don't have the finances to compete or keep their best players from leaving. Even teams like Essex and Kent who have won the Championship a reasonable amount of times seem unlikely to become a stable Div 1 team. The best they could really hope for is to become a yo-yo team like Worcestershire. In saying that I actually think Kent might be a decent bet for promotion in 2016.

Similar to football, the financial gap between the top (or test ground) counties and the more rural counties has widened. Players want to play in Div 1 and test themselves at that higher level. I always thought during the 1st 5-10 years of the 2 tier system the quality between Div 1 and Div 2 was marginal. Over the last 5 years there's been a definite widening of the gap.

If I was England I'd be wary of picking any player for the Test team based on performances in Division 2. Bar a couple of teams the quality is quite poor in general. That's why it'll be interesting to see how the likes of Tom Curran does in Division 1. You've also got to think the likes of Mark Footitt must be thinking of leaving Derbyshire to help his England chances. Even players like Billings, Bell-drummond, Wesley, Jordan, Northeast and Coles must be contemplating making that step up to team playing consistently in Division 1 to help any potential England ambitions they have.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.
