Doubly funny when these Western born people claiming to be Indians and others will throw a fit about gollywog and other things claiming it to be racist but turn the other way for Chinese, Indians, Latinos and arabs

At least we've taken our country back and it's only a matter of time now before we bend the world to our view.

Shut up shut up, oh I can't believe you're not shutting up.

Aren't you British? So not sure why you're getting wound up over an American who took issue to this character or speaking for 1.2 billion Indians I do not know.

The interpretation of this character is also hilarious. Most of the other accents are on point but his is ridiculously over exaggerated. Which Indian speaks like that - a Malyali maybe but even that is pushing it and there aren't many Malyalis in Los Angeles.

I once had a White British girl tell me my accent was 'attractive' for an Indian. She didn't understand why I just walked off. Had another Canadian tell me they learnt so much about Hindu culture from Apu.
Lol, baffling people.

It is clear as day now that the only people who can write stories about us will be us, not even Indian Americans or British Indians and we will slowly exert our influence all over the world just as the RSS has made in roads into American universities. There can be no negotiation on this

Admired by whom? Americans? The same people who admired 'blackface'? Excuse me if I don't take their opinions too seriously

When hank auditioned the producers asked him to make the accent as offensive as possible and this is on record.

Hank deserves the same treatment as wendy donniger and its only a matter of time before he gets it

Those comparing him to Willie and Fat Tony somehow missing the fact the issue is about race, which Americans are rightly very sensitive over given their history and present, although we should be just as sensitive given our history and present also (I know from experience on RAWK this is not the case the amount of stupid shite I've read).

The Simpsons being boss meant Apu has stood for plenty of positive things. But yeah, whole white guy doing a heavily exaggerated Indian accent while playing a character formed from a stereotype Asian immigrant is most definitely out of date. Suddenly writing him out would prob be the worst way to deal with it, but people who are uncomfortable with it are most definitely allowed to say they are uncomfortable with it.

White people voicing other ethnicity generally out of date I think in 2018. Even South Park had black guys voicing the black characters!

I'm pretty glad I saved myself some time by not responding to Straw Pirate Hat and kept reading the thread.

Can someone explain to me though, why it is that Apu is getting removed now, when the Simpson is less relevant than it's ever been? I realise that times and the culture has changed by only until reading this thread I realised that some guy started the movement.

Also, I think I've decided why I like comedians such as Bill Burr and the like. The type who aren't afraid to say offensive stuff within a certain context and not apologise for it. Things are pretty ridiculous now.
I would honestly let Wijnaldum jizz in my face right now

Agree entirely. It’s a difficult issue. The issue in this thread has been the way certain posters have expressed their views, not the views themselves.

Genuine question, but why is it about race? He's an Indian character, Hank does an Indian accent. Its not a Pakistani accent, which is different or other "brown" accent, it's particularly from one nation, just as Willie and Tony are white characters from different nations with different accents.

I never understood the whole "you can only do your own colours accents" thing. Is a black guy allowed to do a  carribean accent? Am I allowed to do a French accent? But not Chinese?

Aye

Would it suddenly be alright if they hired an Indian American to do his voice instead?

In Killing Eve, Jodie Comer puts on a Russian accent to play Vilanelle should that be stopped and Vilanelle made to be a scouser because that’s Jodie’s real accent? Or should they hire a real Russian to play Vilanelle?

That Australia episode with the boot is one off the best ever, definitely in the top 10.

The Brazil one I have seen, but pretty sure it’s after series 10 and I very rarely watch anything after that as they went pretty shit.

It also seems people have missed the original point in their outrage. Has anyone actually seen the documentary?

The maker explicitly says that writing out the character from the series would be the most cowardly thing to do and wouldn't solve anything and yet he's copping the flack for the Simpson writers having no idea how to handle the situation?
Wasn't his solution to run a piece of fan fiction he commissioned as an actual episode?

To be fair, I'd prefer Indians with a stick up their ass rather than other Indians who take self-depreciation so hard it become cringe-worthy and Indians who hate all things Indian in the name of 'critical thinking'

Nice strawman argument there, straw hat pirate.

You can prefer whatever the fuck you want. Just don't sit there and pretend like your opinion about someone whose one post you read on the Internet is actual fact.

And from an Indian perspective, it made perfect sense. The clue is in your title 'Scouser at heart', an Indian more in tune with the West, who is perhaps more Western than Westerners themselves defending an American cultural product lamenting the rise of 'SJW' who will flip the script at home leading to people who are furious with the cultural disconnect and hypocrisy.

Hey, there's also someone called Eel Lobo who's posted on this page. Do you think that's an actual eel as well?

You perhaps (using your own technique here) have an inferiority complex that prevents you from taking a joke. That's fine. That's your problem. Stop projecting that onto everyone else.
