Frightened Rabbit
« on: November 9, 2012, 02:26:29 pm »
Seen them discussed here and there but couldn't find a thread, so here goes.

Absolutely brilliant band.  Every album and EP has been top so far.  New one out early next year.  Lyrics are top notch, as is the music, artwork (designed by the lead singer himself) and their live performance.

For newcomers to the band I'd recommend Midnight Organ Fight myself, that was the first one I heard and I never looked back.

Anyone off to see them next year?

Want to bump this one just to see if anyone else can get into them - I've only done so during the last fortnight or so (infact, I've only been playing their latest album but I'll definitely be getting through their back catalogue).  Seem like a very strong band, on the basis of this latest record.

Mighty, mighty fine band.

I have played "The Midnight Organ Fight" to death.

It was through someone mentioning them in here that I got into them - so whoever that was, thanks  :)

They're great live too.

Midnight Organ Fight was a belter of an album and the new one is one of the best release this year.  Superb band.

I love the way, in an age when the trend is towards bland mid-Atlanticism, they sound as Scottish as a bottle of buckfast and a deep fried mars bar

Spent the night serving them beer. Then towards the back end of it - Baileys, Cointreau, and Tia Maria shots.

Really nice guys.

A very big loss to the Scottish music scene. Stumbled into them via the '2013 in Music' threads on here and saw them tour with their 'Pedestrian Verse' Tour.

Some amazing lyrics, which with hindsight to today's events show there was a genuine struggle within Scott.

Body found in search for missing singer

Police searching for missing Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchison have found a body.

The 36-year-old indie band's frontman was last seen at around 1am on Wednesday morning after leaving the Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry.

Police Scotland discovered a body at Port Edgar near South Queensferry at 8.30pm on Thursday.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but Mr Hutchison's family have been informed.
The police search was focused on the South Queensferry area, the Forth Road Bridge and Fife.

On Thursday, Mr Hutchison's brothers, Grant and Neil, had said they were "distraught" about his disappearance and appealed for him to get in touch.

The pair spoke about their sibling's fight with depression and how he had helped others by speaking about his condition.

Only really discovered Frightened Rabbit a few months after their fourth record, Pedestrian Verse, was released but they became a favourite quickly.  That record became a very important one to me and is far & away the one I've listened to most during the last five years.  It's been clear from the outpouring of support, desperatation, hope, and grief during the last few days just how important Scott's words & music have been to people over the years; a real beacon - I don't doubt he's provided a massive crutch (even a lifeline) to so many, and i'm sure his work will continue to do so.  He'll be very sadly missed - hope there's slim consolation for his bandmates, family, friends, and fans in that others will continue to discover Scott & his band.

Incredible sad this. Haven’t really listened to them in years but was a big fan of his earlier albums, “The Modern Leper” is such an amazing song. Rest in peace Scott.

Shows how important is to talk and not ignore these issues. Horrible stigma around it still.

Hopefully he’s found peace now and his family are ok.

RIP man.
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

His music helped me through loads of shit a few years back. So sad to lose someone so important to what I imagine is thousands of people.

RIP, you'll be missed.

Choosing to put this link in this dedicated thread, but feel free to move it to 2019 in Music if that's more appropriate.

A tribute show was put on at Rough Trade in New York back in December - Ben Gibbard (Death Cab), Julien Baker, Craig Finn (The Hold Steady), Aaron Dessner (The National), and Kevin Devine all contributed to a fantastic set (I've been watching many of the YouTube clips during recent weeks).

The band have since decided to make the audio of the show available to stream and download - A Celebration of the Songs of Scott Hutchison is available here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/caxfl0eytw8m8ni/AAD4Fu0jr3JbCmlRd-GdiVNSa?dl=0.

The Hutchison family are planning to launch a mental health charity - The Scott Hutchison Fund - later this year; donations following download of the recording are welcomed here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/scotthutchison?utm_term=XgbY8aaag.
