Best not to get your hopes up, you can only be (hopefully) pleasantly surprised, at least thats how I look at it. I'm just not sure a younger doctor is going to work. At least if it doesnt work they can regenerate his ass double quick.

Oh for the days when we didnt know or give to much of a fuck what was going to happen next, just tuned in and watched it - "oh look a new doctor and its Sylvester McCoy, oh well lets just watch it"

i know that opening episode was directed by adam smith and he made this video with me a few years ago:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7MCbis75wk

and this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvUkHBxqpzo

i think they're going to want to push on from where they left things with tennant.  they relaunched 5 years ago and don't want to start again or lose the audience they've built up.  dr who pretty much kicks off a very strong saturday night for the bbc so they will be spending money and very keen to get this right.  it has to work for the fans and a more general audience that hopefully settles in all the way through to match of the day.

Peter Davidson was quite a young doctor..

The only one that stank the place out was Colin Baker..

Would be nice to see a few new alien boddies - and it's about time the sea devils turned up again - way and beyond the scariest monsters in Doctor Who. Never found the Daleks that scary to be honest.

The daleks have always been rubbish....I met one last year and didn't even cry a teeny bit... The only thing I've ever found scary on doctor who was the beetle on Donna's back.... oh and the kids in the gas masks - a la "Are you my mummy?"... but that was just a bit freaky rather than "hide behind the sofaish"....

It won't be the same though without DT dishing out the unforgettable quips..... but I'm ready.... and Matt's gonna kick ass :D

I wish Sally Sparrow could have been the assistant this time round. It would have been perfect. She never even met the Doctor I don't think, so wouldn't be too much of an "old friend" as to draw attention from Matt Smith, but would be a familiar face to ease him in, rather than having two new completely new characters.

Plus Carey Milligan is gorgeous, and a great actress.

Plus it would bring a whole new dynamic to the weeping angels episode, as she has seen them before, maybe play in her fears, and nightmares of the first event.

I thought exactly the same thing when I saw that episode, although it coincided with Freema Agyeman who I think it a terrible actress. And I agree about her being gorgeous, she is a stunner ;D

The tardis can go anywhere in the universe at any point in time so where does The Doctor find himself? Modern day London for the 12 billionth time. Wow, what a fucking stretch. All they need to do now is roll out Bernard Cribbins.

Total wank. I must really love my kids to let them watch such apalling shite.

I liked it, was nothing more than an introduction to the new Doctor/Assistant, with a daft alien plot thrown in for good measure. But that's no different to what we've had previous.

I liked the idea of the alien only being able to be seen out of the corner of the eye, an indication of how Moffat may prefer to rely on some cleverness in his enemies, rather than putting Peter Kay in a green alien outfit, with a bush.

They offered Mulligan the job after the episode she did, she turned it down, I think later saying something like doctor who fans are weird and didnt want to be part of the whole shebang. Besides she is oscar nominated now she is going to storm hollywood, no looking back for her. I would say that the Amy Pond character is a nod towards Sally Sparrow, given Moffat created Sparrow, and maybe Pond is what Sparrow would of been had Mulligan taken the part.

Anyway that was enjoyable, he wasnt that bad. She is worth tuning in for, I love those redheads ;)
Some interesting seeds thrown out, the stuff Zero said, plus the the Myth icon thingee on the laptop, thats got to come back somehow, it was a bit obvious.

A good start! My boys are won over already particularly after Smith spitting out food-they were laughing away-Tennant's forgotten now. I wasn't looking forward to the new series but I am now. Glad the Tardis re-design was explained but the show's continuity should not be too deeply analysed.

I was a bit worried because I loved Tennant, but Smith did it for me straight away. I had to warm to Tennant as he annoyed the hell out of me the first few times he was on, but Smith nailed it from the off. He's just the right amount of weird genuis mixed in with a sort of old-world wisdom that comes from being 900+ years old. And the sidekick hasn't annoyed me as much as I thought she might, despite her being painfully attractive, which I usually find a turn-off what with being a straight female.

To be fair, stockings/tights like hers last night make any woman's pins look amazing. I've got some and I love them with a pair of my highest heels. I admit I wouldn't say no to a body like hers, but only if I can keep my own boobs. I guess that's the price a woman pays for being skinny - you only get DD cups with implants.

Quite enjoyed it. I find it funny people are complaining that it's turning into a kids programme.

It's ALWAYS been a kids programme that happens to appeal to (some) adults as well.

Quite enjoyed it yesterday. Decent intro. All they had to do was change it - his accent is a little too much like Tennant's - but apart from that - pretty good. This new doc is going to be a bit more whimsical than the last two which I think is a nice move.

There are some moaning old farts all the way through this thread! But I suppose what would RAWK be without the moaners? :P

Gradually became a fan simply from the re-runs on BBC3, leading up to the waters of mars episode. I've since gone back and seen some of the old ones.

Wasn't sure about the idea of the new guy at first but as soon as the title sequence started I was engrossed. I believed he was the doctor straight away. It was a great episode and although it's early I think the new doctor is perhaps even better than DT.
