Lets hope he doesn't lie and doesn't heap debt onto us. I am cautious about him and his group.

Good work getting this interview.

Well done to all involved. well done to Mr Henry for engaging with the fans. Well done to RAWK and the Campaigns, without which we wouldn't be in this position.

Let's hope the club moves forward relatively quickly now.

When market forces dictate.  At the moment I would guess he is preoccupied with giving our manager a much needed kick up the arse and I don't think any of us would wish to distract from that.

Amen to that.

I'm quite encouraged. He seems to understand that in order to make a profit we've got to be challenging.

I realize I probably won't get an answer to this question, but I'm curious how the Staff of RAWK were able to come into direct contact with Mr Henry.  Was there a middle-man (like you know someone who knows someone who could deliver the questions), or have you somehow got direct contact details and were able to present him the questions directly yourself?  or for that matter did he actually contact you instead??  If there's any info you are allowed to share about the process of getting in contact with him, i'm morbidly curious (not so that i could do the same, but i'm just impressed at the seemingly direct conversation going on there and was wondering how that worked out).  thanks.

I can answer that one, seeing as VdM is probably fully occupied maintaining peace in the ranks. Savelfc contacted John Henry within hours of his bid being favoured by the board. This was thanks to SmithdownAndy who is a demon researcher. There were some polite email exchanges and on the Friday NESV took over John Henry suggested meeting savelfc the next day. Three local savelfc stalwarts went, and as savelfc was started here on RAWK and counted many creative and inspirational RAWKites among its movers and shakers, Veinticinco de Mayo was one of them, and took his opportunity to request the online interview which has since come to pass. The people on here who got savelfc together have never blown their own trumpets, nor have the RAWK mods who let it run, but imo they are unsung heroes of a crucial summer.

The credit for contacting John W Henry goes to SmithdownAndy on here, who worked out how to contact him.  To his immense credit John W Henry, actually responded to his contact and suggested a meeting.  Three of us (Shanklyboy being the third) then met him and he listened to our concerns.  Being the cheeky bugger that I am I asked him if he would do an email interview for the site as we were leaving, he agreed, and here it is.

Zlopasha, the next part will be published when Mr Henry gets chance in his busy schedule to answer the remaining questions.  I would much rather wait and get more full and considered answers...

I really like the way this is turning out. This line of communications has set the tone for a very open and amicable interaction between the 'sensible' supporters and the owners, for the benefit of the club, and for the fans.

Would love for this line of communication to develop and allow the new owners to gauge the reaction of the fans to everything they do. We can work together, help each other every step of the way.

Nice.  Thanks for the detailed answers, guys.  Good work to all involved, it's all very much appreciated that you've worked so hard to make our views known.  I can't do much directly since I'm a US red (did what i could through email campaigns, savelfc, and spreading the word not to buy official merch and stuff on FB though), so having you all to speak in a responsible and credible manner for us and be proactive on the local front is immense.  SmithdownAndy, don't know how you did it exactly mate but very well done figuring out how to contact Henry.  well done all.

I'd like to echo those thanking VdM, Smithdown Andy and Shanklyboy. Information is power and it's refreshing to see that 3 supporters have a direct line to the current owners to the club and that John Henry is happy to keep these lines of communication open. How rare is that in this day and age.

It's also good because usually we have to rely on the media to give us our information. This is often given to us with their own little spin or edited slightly under their "creative license" to do so. Granted the man could just be lying his face off but I just don't get that vibe at all. Given everything I've read about him he seems genuine so I'd allow him some space to work to see what he does. I do not like, for example how the media are spinning the "no promise not to load the club with debt" line recently. Given that it isn't legally binding to say it, why say it?

He has already said he sees the football club and the stadium as seperate assets. Therefore it's safe to assume the purchase of a new stadium (or any major refurbishment of Anfield) would happen using borrowing. That is a pretty normal course of action for any football club (or companies in general). However I can guarantee you if had given the media his promise of not loading the club with debt, any mortgage taken our for stadium contruction would then be used as a stick to beat him with.

So once again, thanks to you guys for arranging this.

I'm slightly wary about this, as my understanding (correct me if wrong) is that the whole point of building one is to ultimately increase revenue to levels that enable THE CLUB to be able to compete with the likes of Arsenal etc. In a nutshell I guess what I don't want to see is a new stadium becoming a seperate cash cow company of little or no benefit to on-field ambitions, that could be sold on later as a stripped asset.

Perhaps we will win the league again in my lifetime!

I wouldn't be wary... that is not meant to be taken as all revenue from a new or updated stadium won't go towards the team, but instead that revenues from the team won't be used to build a new stadium.  The stadium will pay for itself, once it starts generating a profit - that money will be reinvested into the franchise  - whether for more stadium improvements and upgrades or directly into the team.

They will make money in several different "buckets"; the profit will then be used to better the organization.  Where the spend you'll have to wait and see; but I think the message is clear - they won't be taking dividends.

For example; for 10 straight years they have reinvested in Fenway Park.  The improvements do several things; make a better game experience for the fans, the athletes... they help add to the life of the ball park... and of course they also help generate more revenue through more seats, better food and concessions, etc.

Well lets just wait and see first. The Guardian is reporting that we are 'closer than ever' to a groundshare - if this is what Henry wants then he can f*** off back out of our club - H&G all over again.

I saw that. The journalist said we are closer to groundshare purely because 'Henry is a pragmatist'

Quote
The best way to ensure delivery of a revenue-enhancing stadium is by sharing the costs with Everton, who have still not ruled it out. Reds, do not forget: Henry is a pragmatist

In other words, because Everton haven't ruled it out, and because Henry is said to be a pragmatist, we are now closer than ever to groundshare. Why didn't he include how he saw three pidgeons alighting on his window sill this morning at the same time, an omen if ever there was one. Its speculative bollocks, and seems to have missed out the following:

Quote
Henry was cautious on the thorny subject of the redevelopment of Anfield, although he all but ruled out the prospect of ground-sharing with Merseyside rivals Everton.
'We are not going to make any stadium statements,' said Henry. 'Ground-sharing is very controversial. From what I have heard, it doesn't look appealing to many people.'

So, complete tendentious speculative shite, more or less making stuff up as he goes along in the Guardian there. Moral, read between the lines.

Hopefully very soon we will see the same steadfast and public 'over my dead body' rejection of grounshare as Moores/Parry used to do - the one major thing they were good at. The only options going forward for us should be our own new ground on the park or even better redevelop Anfield. Either of those things keep most/all of us happy but suggestion of groundshare would split the fanbase in two - i'm sure Henry does not want to throw away all that goodwill. :)
