Sadly I think it's just metastasised. Most of it has been absorbed back into the Tory Party but it's affected the Labour Party as well.
UKIP always was the right wing of the Tory Party. I think it was very useful in making the Tories seem moderate, so that Europhobes like Cash and Davies could peddle their shite via Farrage, and appeal to voters as less extreme. Euro-sceptics as opposed to fascists.
The big problem is that the language of UKIP has been so useful to the Tories in making them look less extreme, but their lack of criticism of UKIP, has made such extremism somehow acceptable in mainstream. For example, it is apparently ok for people to spout hate, because politicians have been doing it unchallenged on platforms like BBC question time. We have  a prime minister who is whipping up xenophobic rhetoric, riding the UKIP wave.

Just woke up blimey the Ukip vote has totally collapsed. I guess the Tories are now the real Ukip party.

And the Greens won a seat in Frome by 4 votes well done for beating the Tory.

The Greens have just won another seat in Frome.

I wish Independents for Frome had put up candidates in the local election I think they would have won all 4 seats. Then they would have had total control of the Frome council and a voice with 4 seats on Mendip District Council who control the purse strings.

But well done the Greens.

Like I have said before Frome is a left wing oasis in a sea of Tory Blue around us.

I'm not surprised in the slightest, the ridiculous positioning of the party under Corbyn was never going to be attractive to the vast majority of the electorate. There's a very realistic chance that things could be far worse than predicted next month. A huge Tory majority is on the cards, possibly bigger than Thatcher's in 1983 - 144 as the Liberals are not showing any real progress either so think it is unlikely to gain as many MPs as thought possible to stem the Tories.  Not good, not good at all
However if something serious happens to them I will eat my own cock.

This isn't the thread for it obviously, but I think the real problem for labour is that they are doing fuck all at the moment. It isn't even over how far left they position themselves, there's complete inaction.

Also have a feeling the forgotton 48% have had a word.

Looking at some of the results it illustrates that there is quite a healthy centre/centre-left vote to grab. If you can have 1 party that appeals strongly then that should lead to Lib Dems flocking to Labour and even those who may have shifted a bit to the right.

Whilst the Tories will do well this is not a country that on mass has shifted to the right and needs to be written off by other parties.

Disagree with just about all of that. The shit performance of Labour and the Lib Dems says to me that the Left and Left of Centre vote has shrunk and the country has moved to the Right.
Thinking is overrated.

Fairly predictable from McDonnell. The usual 'not as bad as predicted' line that will no doubt be reeled out after the General Election as well:

 1h ago 08:08
McDonnell says there were 'some disappointments' for Labour, but not the wipeout predicted

John McDonnell, the shadow chancellor, told Sky News that there had been “some disappointments” for Labour but that the results were not as bad as some were predicting. He said:

•    Well, it’s mixed results definitely. It’s been a tough night. There have been some disappointments. There hasn’t been a wipeout in some areas that some of the polls were predicting.

•    If you look in Doncaster, we won the mayoral on the first ballot, which was very good. In West of England, where people never gave us much of a hope, we came within 5,000 votes of winning that. That was a good result.

•    And in Wales, where again there were predictions of a wipeout, and where Theresa May went down to campaign in Newport, we held on to Newport. Where we’ve lost in Wales is where we picked up seats from the independents in both Merthyr Tydfil and Blaenau Gwent. They’ve reverted to independents.

But he said support for Labour could pick up when its manifesto was published.

•    The manifestoes from all the parties will be published in the next couple of weeks and I think you will see the support for our policies is incredibly strong and we will translate that into support for the party.

And he predicted that voters would warm to Jeremy Corbyn as they saw more of him in the general election campaign.

•    And as Jeremy gets more airtime, I think people are beginning to see the real Jeremy Corbyn’s character emerge and be in support ...

•    Now we are in the general election campaign, and the media are forced to give some balance, the televised broadcast media, I think what you are seeing is that we are picking up support, and as Jeremy gets more media time, people are seeing the real character of the man, this decent, honest, strong leader, in terms of principles and how to go forward.

Deluded...

The local election is so hard to judge what will happen in the general election by.

With a low turn out and the total collapse of the Ukip vote makes it even harder.

Seats in local elections can change on just a few votes.

But it makes the general election a lot more exciting.

Just need the manifestos released now and get on with it.

It's pretty easy really..

All the polling shows that labour will do worse in the general election as the leadership becomes more of an issue.

It will be worse in the general election.  It pains me to say that.

Al, I doubt I'm the first to point it out, but, remember all those non Corbyn fanatics that Momentum and its supporters have been telling to fuck off and join the Tories over the last few years?

I'd never imagined it, but obviously that seems to have been a really well thought out strategy.

Though perhaps these results also reflect the devious and untrustworthy MSE (Mainstream Electorate) and their bias against Labour.

But here's an idea, maybe Labour should from now on just ignore or completly bypass the MSE as I'm confident they'll otherwise only undermine Jezza and continually contaminate the party with their neoliberal ideas.

I can feel it in the air, peak purity within the bubble is approaching and will be reached immediately the day after the GE through a simply colossal democratic mandate for change, and then, with a willingness and a happy smile on everyones faces, Year 0 can commence....

Pity whoever has to clean out the Augean stable after this mess.

Nice.

But true that why a government can put you though years of hurt and just before an election give you some sweeteners in the budget and people vote for them again.

Like the Tories 7 years of austerity and hurting the poorest in the country then suddenly its we will help the poor and the low paid workers of England and the turkeys will vote for Christmas again.

Only yesterday the Lib Dems were saying they would win back control of Mendip council they ended up losing 6 seats.

Disagree with just about all of that. The shit performance of Labour and the Lib Dems says to me that the Left and Left of Centre vote has shrunk and the country has moved to the Right.

Yep, and to compound the problem there's five major parties fighting over the left of centre vote (Lab, Lib, SNP, Greens, Plaid) which may become six with a post-election Labour split, and just one hoovering up the right of centre with the UKIP collapse. Bleak.

Doctor Éoin “PhD in Irish Feminism” Clark is truly a source of humour in these dark times.
ive ignored the doctor part intentionally, he's about as much of a dr as Dr Pepper or 'dr' Gillian McKeith

indeed, comrade eoin will be a great source of memes

I checked. It's genuine.

I voted Labour for my local councilor in Frome West but Im more than happy the Greens won it.
You've picked the perfect leader and perfect time to vote Labour and lose elections.

But true....

It's been explained many times to you Trada, it's all about winning marginals.

Most less well off will vote Labour, but it's not enough to win a GE, so you need to convince those who are in the middle to vote Labour to stand a chance of winning.

Calling these people thick is not a good way of convincing them.

Perhaps these people in the middle take a look at the current Labour front bench, Corbyn, McDonnell, Burgon, White Van woman Nugee, Abbott  and whatever other non entities are on there and are just saying no thanks, not for me.

And the current shambles seems to indicate that a huge number of Labour seats will likely be marginals at the GE.

I don't do polite so fuck yoursalf with your stupid accusations...

Right you fuckwit I will show you why you are talking out of your fat arse...
