A Labour trouncing is our last chance to take back the party from the incompetent lunatics currently running it.  I'd rather that happen now rather than three years down the line.

If Jezza refuses to step down after this then there's no coming back for Labour.
I don't always visit Lobster Pot.  But when I do. I sit.

I think it's pathetic to not vote labour to 'make a point' as if Corbyn is the antichrist while at the same time validating those tory tw*ts when they win via a landslide.

It will just turn into another referendum.

It's not like for like with the vote last June, and she knows it. A passionate Tory might be also be a passionate Remainer, who do they vote for in a few weeks? Last year, everyone, regardless of political affiliation was voting on the sole issue of Brexit. A "Brexit general election" muddies the waters massively. A 2nd referendum on the terms negotiated should still be pushed for by however many Lib Dem MPs there may be in June.

Quite a nice day for the Russians. They'll be done with messing up the French election and have still a way to go to messing up the German one in autumn, so they can also have a go in the UK... ;)

How? They've got a strong lead in opinion polls, may well take back some right wing votes from UKIP now that Brexit is done (to all intents and purposes) and Labour are in a shocking position. LDs have a handful of MPs. There's no serious opposition.

It would be a miracle if Labour only lost a few seats. It is virtually inconceivable that they would hold even the seat that they currently hold.

As an outsider who don't follow British politics more than at the surface, what does thit mean? What is the reasoning behind it? The ramifications?

The Tories are generally disliked on here, as they should, but isn't there a chance that twhy would lose this election? Or is the Labour party so far gone that they can't compete?

If anyone would find the time to explain, I'd be forever obliged.

The notion that Labour will be able to influence Brexit negotiations through Parliament looks set to go up in smoke (providing anyone believed it in the first place)

Makes the decision to wave through Article 50 even more tragic.

How about we look at the fact Labour lost a seat (Copeland) they held since 1935, just a short while ago.

Commenting on the Prime Minister's call for a General Election, Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said: “This election is your chance to change the direction of our country.

“If you want to avoid a disastrous Hard Brexit. If you want to keep Britain in the Single Market. If you want a Britain that is open, tolerant and united, this is your chance.

"Only the Liberal Democrats can prevent a Conservative majority.”

At the moment, we have a PM who was not even elected about to steer the country through it's most important negotiation in its history. This way when the Tories and May are voted in, there won't be any (less?) finger pointing after.

She needs two-thirds majority of the Commons to do this.  Why would Labour vote for it?  I know Corbyn has said he would, but ... why would Labour vote for it?
What else can he do, if he doesn't vote for it then he is denying Labour a chance of power, if he doesnt believe they can win then he has to step down.

Anyone still taking polls seriously after Brexit, Trump?

The polls were broadly right. Clinton won the popular vote. The Brexit referendum was an unprecedented vote, which increases the uncertainty. The polls suggested that it would be close.

Polls have a margin of errors. Both results were within the margin of error.

The Party polls have a margin of error. They vary between Labour being trounced to Labour being completely trounced.

I'm quite lucky. My MP is a Labour candidate in a sea of Tories, and reflects my views on the progressive right of the party. Assuming Corbyn doesn't go down the route of demanding all candidates must be selected again by the membership before standing, I can vote for him and for Labour - but in so doing, effectively voting against Corbyn and returning someone who might help the party recover sense after the total disaster coming our way.

Presumably she's doing this as they'll clearly win now and give her another five years. The longer she leaves it the less popular she's likely be.
