I mean, they could have just beaten the weakened team and had a payday in the next round...

Really pathetic behaviour from them throughout this. They got a televised home tie and a sold out Anfield, excuse me for not thinking about how hard done by they are. On top of that they got a crack at a team of teenagers to then get a chance to play Chelsea away in a televised game.

And as for the strongest team stuff, well you can't have it both ways, they only got a replay as we played a weaker, rusty team in the first place. If we'd played Virg, Alisson etc we'd have won 6-0 and no replay.

This is why the FA Cup is shit. It’s just lower league clubs thinking it’s a hand out and officials helping them out. The idea that they should be in any way upset with Liverpool is absolutely laughable. First game was televised, they had a big chance to go through against a weakened side anyway, second leg at Anfield with a big crowd against literally kids and they still couldn’t go through to another big tie away at Chelsea.

They should be fucked off at themselves.

1. They lost.

2. All they had to do was beat us and they would have got exactly what they didn't get at Anfield - a televised FA cup match away to Chelsea.

They can moan all they like about it costing them money, but our decision to play youngsters should have ultimately resulted in them being better off financially than if we played our first team.

FA Cup v Liverpool

You will recall our incredible come back in the FA Cup Fourth Round tie live on BBC with Liverpool to draw 2-2 back in January. Immediately following the match, the Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp ruined what should have been a wonderful moment for our Club by making public statements that he and all of his first-team would not attend the replay at Anfield, effectively ruining what should have been not just financially but for the players and fans a wonderful achievement and a very special occasion. We struggled to believe that his statements had no effect on the replay being televised and we are convinced that LFC broke the FA Cup rules by not ‘fielding their strongest team’ in the return fixture which had a knock-on effect of STFC not getting anywhere near the financial rewards that were to be expected from an FA Cup Fourth Round replay including a potential live TV fee against the World & European Champions and Premier League Champions (elect). In February we put a complaint in to the FA about the alleged rule breach but unfortunately and quite unexpectedly we were informed that this was dismissed last week (four months on). This without doubt resulted in a much lesser occasion for our players and fans as well as the financial reward that would have been expected from LFC playing their strongest team and abiding by the FA Cup rules.

Perhaps we should have played our strongest side in the first game, hammered them and denied them any chance of a replay. Would that have been preferable?

Only in fuckin' this country.  :butt :butt

Only in this country do we continually get people coming out with statements that contain the most risible hypocrisy and not get challenged on it.

So on the one hand, they battled to win a famous draw against a weakened side which was against FA Cup rules according to them. But then complained about the a weakened side in the replay because it "cost them money", and had they beaten the weakened side, they would have earned another payday.

So they don't mind playing a weakened side if it makes them money, but complain if they somehow reach the conclusion that an unexpected extra game has cost them money.

Baffling.

We did as I recall. But I guess everyone just wants to be our rivals these days. We're screwed if we ever have to play them again. Their place will be an absolute cauldron.  :(

If the FA were to take this seriously and try to punish LFC they wouldn't have a leg to stand on. The PL scheduled a winter break so if they can't get their shit together and not schedule matches during that break, then I don't see how it's our fault. Shrewsbury would've had a better chance of getting something out of this if they'd complained about the poor scheduling instead of accusing Klopp of "ruining" their big moment. He had to take a stand.

Plus the TV thing was not our decision. FA fucked up there big time by not granting TV rights out of pure spite... But I remember there were streams available so that all over the world people were watching the LFC kids versus a League 1 side over the matches they did choose to broadcast.

Second this. Much better tournament. More interesting matches, better time of year than the FA Cup, less self aggrandising.

Shrewsbury's management are embarrassing themselves and their club even more than our teenagers did. Didn't we donate some money to them? Vaguely remember being pissed off hearing something like that. Should have donated it to a Shrewsbury-based charity

They’re just trying to get more money.

That’s the sad truth if this.

It's like we were the first team in history to play a weakened side against a lower league opposition in a cup game.

Actually we were fined for doing that in the League for a Div1 match in 1965 prior to the Cup final, (we also had the Inter match the following midweek)
Wolves were our opponents. The mad thing was we beat them.
