Should be stickied this. Wonderful and fascinating stories.

Thanks for posting.

Was thinking just the same! Mods?? :)

Apart from all the wonderful stories, it gives the younger fans (myself included) who were'nt around when Mr. Shankly was at LFC, a very good insight in the way he was and worked as manager and how he was as a person.

Fantastic read vic. I have added your book to my wish lists for Christmas 2011. I hope you make it come true... :wave

Tony mate, thank you so much for that, it looks and feels more like a book now, once again thank you  :wave

I'm glad this thread has been brought to light again, it's a super read.

I was born in Birkenhead in 1954, but when my dad was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1955, my mum moved back home with her parents, who lived on Wadeson Road.  We lived there until 1958 when my mum remarried, and we moved back to Birkenhead, subsequently emigrating to Canada in 1966.

So we were close neighbours for a while Vic!  Maybe you were part of the gang of toughs that I used to be frightened of?

The way it should be......
cheers for that Vic, not only has bill shankly taught people about how football should be played. He has also taught us how to react, when a father hears those dreaded words of "Im pregnant".

yes but that was in September 2009 and did one with John keith at Radio City, aah I remember now, i also did one at the Empire theatre, that was with Richard, John Keith, Chris lawler, Ian callaghan, Ian St John.

It was great to see Ian and Chris, we were mates at LFC and have stayed friends all these years, absolutely great lads and I am very proud to call them friends

Vic,
I feel a bit naive really. Even though I'd seen your username it only dawned on me while reading the passage where you met your wife for the first time  that you were Bill's son-in-law!
Loved Karen's book & will look forward to reading yours when you publish it!

Cracking read that vic, had me glued to the screen.  As an oot/woolly back call me what you will, but i love the city, my missus now comes up with me and we stay down at the jurys inn by the docks.  I'll off to the game she hits L1 hard for the shopping and now and then comes to the game. Then we'll go out for a few bevvys and a bite to eat.  I have found a few interesting places and always try a new pub here and there.  Most of the people i meet when "up north" have been really welcoming.  Your article makes me understand the city/people a bit better, so the education your read gives is very interesting, when it gets published im deffo going to get a copy

thanks Vic - hope to meet you one day, even though i'm a southern scally.

Vic, I've played golf many times with Alan A'Court's brother in law, he's a member at the same club as I am, real nice fellow, and a red.  I didn't see Alan play at LFC, as I didn't get to go to Anfield until I was a little older, but was a regular goer to Tranmere's matches so saw him a lot there.  Were you friends with him?

Was I friends with Alan A'Court ? he was one of my favourite players, one of those I looked up to, so we really weren't friends but he was a really nice man, always had time to talk with us younger players. he was about 10yrs.older than me.

;D  he used to take some stick but not a lad to argue with, he surprised quite a few "hard cases" in his time  ;D
