Liverpool FC Forum / Re: LFC's next manager - chat and informed speculation

That tweet that Edwards and Hughes aren't afraid to make an unpopular but brave decision is really worrying.

a) They know the decision will be unpopular
b) They consider the decision to be brave and reading between the lines 'brave' means a gamble

Nothing worrying about it for me. They have infinitely more information than any of us, journalists, pundits combined. They know how to interpret and put data to good use. They have a more intimate understanding of how they see the club evolving and what the new structure will be like in practice - we don't. Every single available option will be a gamble anyway, there is no sure thing in football. Even Klopp was seen as a gamble up to a point, having never managed the club of our size when he took over. Unless they hire someone who is a proven asshole - all the others are very much in the same tier and the selection is best left to those who know more.

they've let players cheat for years, let players abuse officials
they've let clubs break rules

they've taken referees sides against clubs and against the bleeding obvious

they've let FIFA run riot
they've let unfit owners into the game
they've let smaller clubs be bulldozed
they've ignored paying fans to bend to media companies
they've allowed some fans to get away with obscene behaviour
they've allowed a culture whereby highly payed players believe they are above the rules of society

And they think this can all be reversed

All true and all damning.

I'd add that they have allowed a club that hasn't earned one iota of their success to completely dominate their "sporting" competition. Pumping in unearned money artificially to win isn't sport.

I know some of the other things you mentioned are even more serious from an existential point of view with football, but the fact that they've absolutely allowed Abu Dhabi's dominance of the league is one of the main things that'll actually turn people off their product.

People (finally even those outside of the LFC bubble) are starting to feel conned. The refereeing is just another symptom of a product that's completely stopped caring about anything but money, and that has lost legitimacy as a sporting competition.

So much of this is down to pure luck now, in terms of injuries and scheduling. Just taking Villa as an example, they rested players against City because they had a big European game, went full strength against Arsenal and beat them. What Villa side do we end up playing? Well, they've got a semi final second leg at Olympiacosa few days before. Will they have top for sewn up, or will they be desperate for a result?

Then there's spurs. They are going to be absolutely dying to take points off Arsenal. They then go away to another arch rival in Chelsea before visiting us. A big game but maybe some energy spent? They are city's bogey team, but the fixture being rearranged to the penultimate game week could either make it a dead rubber or an even bigger game than usual if their top 4 chances are still alive

Even generally over the course of a season. We've played Palace who are right on the up instead of two games against the fucking Hodge. You throw in injuries, the amount of rest time etc and you realise that all these small external things that are out of our control totally can make all the difference by the end.

I've got a bit of excitement back, I have to say. I'll be shocked if Arsenal take 6 points from their two games this week. City have one really tough away game on paper plus another one against a wounded, very publicly upset relegation battling side who we only beat right at the death. We've got a confidence boosting win under our belts and a huge chance to build on that and turn all the momentum back around against a, frankly, shit Everton.

It's stressful, it's shit if you don't get over the line, but it's a title race and we're all obliged to try and enjoy it. You never know when the next challenge might come and it's a fuck of a lot better than being 30 points behind,  scrapping to get in the conference league. Strap yourselves in folks it's a big few days ahead!

The Portuguese journo was adamant the interview wasn't with just WH and the British journos have said Amorim isn't the only manager on the shortlist. So don't rule out Amorim just yet.

Obviously. Yet I somehow think it would still be an improvement on these bastards and the standards they've set for themselves. That is where we are currently, that is the level of quality they are delivering week in, week out. Twenty two players thrown into a pit would balance the game better than Webb's cohort of mediocre shysters.

An improvement, how? Every week you people rage at footballers who fall over the moment the wind blows. How exactly would it be better, leaving it to a bunch of cheats to decide the game? It would end with massive brawls more likely.

very common these days for “Private” jets to have fractional ownership. You can own a share in a jet or just rent usage of a jet. So good chance it’s not owned by West Ham or us.
I also think West Ham don’t really need to keep quiet about interviewing Amorim (if they are sacking Moyes), whereas we have Klopp’s leaving to respect and typically Edwards et al keep stum about such things.
So no reason that this isn’t the first chance Amorim has had to do some interviews, including West Ham (who are not “hiding” this) and possibly also ourselves.

That's a bit the wrong way round I think. Surely we are more likely to conduct open interviews than West Ham. Klopp leaving is a fact, but Moyes hasn't been sacked yet.

I do agree though that Amorim might be having more than one interview, West Ham were maybe just more prepared to actually bring him over, while other clubs may have just been talking online.

Given the comments made about him, the people deemed unlikely or ruled out, and the data analytical approach, I think it's going to be Thomas Frank

Thomas Frank? Please, no.

Liverpool FC Forum / Re: Our fantastic away support

In an odd way, this sequence of away games may suit us because the home support is currently very nervous. The atmosphere in the Palace game was horrible. More hindrance than help.

If two journos are saying the same thing it's worrying.
I still wouldn't rule out Amorim but I think there has been a briefing to lower expectations in the event we don't get him.

I mean if we want him and don't get him because of West Ham that's a big problem

I think the briefing is exactly what it is, he isn't our first choice

I think there is also a degree of him being the favorite so people built him as the ideal perfect candidate, and now it isn't him there's very real backlash based on the perception of him we made because we thought he was coming in
