That's sad news.

Though I knew he was in & around the team during the late-70s & early-80s, I don't think I realised quite how significant a part he played (particularly during the days of smaller squads) - scored a load of goals and played a big role in our most successful era.

That team/those teams would have been the one(s) that my dad grew up with during his teenage years - sad when a generation begins to lose its heroes.

Sad news.
Loved watching him for us. A real hard worker who did some hard yards for us as well as score goals. A member of perhaps our greatest team

First ever Liverpool game live for me was a 0-0 at Old Trafford on Boxing Day 1980. David Johnson hit the post and Kenny had one cleared off the line.

Always been in my mind, ever since. Had a spell at Barrow too.

As an 8/9/10 year old I was fascinated by all the moustaches and he was one of those for a while.

Love and best wishes to his family and friends.

So sad to hear about this - shocked really. Met him and Brucie G at Punch Tarmey's a couple years ago - Jono was very funny and a lovely fella. Can't believe the number of ex-Reds players from 60's & 70's passing away in recent years....but, 71 is nothing nowadays. So sad - condolences to his family RIP.

I really enjoyed watching Johno, always gave everything and a character. I read somewhere about a club visit to Israel (I think) where there was quite a serious press conference, things being what they are in that part of the world, and he burst in shouting "Don't eat the jam lads, it tastes of fish!". It was caviar he'd tasted. RIP Davey.

Sad news, first striker I really remember as Tosh had gone to Swansea just as I began following us.

I could never figure out why he only won 8 England caps, both he and Terry Mac never got the international recognition they deserved in my opinion

RIP DJ - thanks for the memories fella
